heheh Frank Herbert wrote the books that these are based on. This movie is actually based on the second and third books, combining "Dune Messiah" and "Children of Dune". If you're going to watch it, you should probably watch "Dune" first so that you can get some idea of the world they live in.

And actually, he's a Scottish man who plays a Freman who turns in to a worm. :) Of course, he doesn't do that in this story so no worries. ;)

Yes, Frank Herbert's Dune is absolutely genious! It's not just SF, but a very well elaborated philosophy...

I would have preferred them to be younger though - if they could have found good actors for the job. At a younger age it not only adds to the mystique but also to the gravity of the responsibilty Leto is taking on, losing his humanity at such a young age.

It has been 25 years since I read the book but if I rememeber they were 8 years old or so. However if you remeber fromt hebook there was a plot to hae Ali bear a child to paul to keep the bloodline in the BG control. I do nto know of any connection but it lets one wonder

Ghanima says in the book "I won't bear your children, Leto." Incest was a recurring theme in the books the twins were forced to consider. (Alia/Paul, Feyd/Baron, Baron/Alia?). Herbert drew on egyptian pharaohs & greek myths. (Atreus / Atreides). The twins reject incest, marry to consolidate power, but Ghanima carries on the line with Harq al-Ada. Emotionally, they're twins with past lives, prophecy, & born adults. Naturally they're more like each other than anyone else in the universe.

If you're interested: "The Maker of Dune: Insights of a Master of Science Fiction--Frank Herbert" by Tim O'Reilly (1987) examines Herbert's entire work, especially Dune, featuring interviews with him before he died. Herbert's takes on prophecy, on the Bene Gesserit, on the hero myth and how heros are bad for mankind. Why he spent three books building up Paul only to tear him down. The best book I've seen explaining the series. Unfortunately out of print. Try Google.

I loved the show myself. Its out on DVD with Dune if in case you ever want to go out and watch it. As for the twins, they are extremely close since they really have no one in their lives. As for the incestious vibe, I sensed that also but it does not take away from their closeness.
