I was about 5 years old when I had Final Fantasy 9. I used to pretend I was Zidane and steal stuff like erasers from school.
I remember asking my dad to buy me Army Men for the PS1, but when he brought home Final Fantasy 9 instead, I was confused. I didn't understand it or the reason why there are 4 discs, but about two years later, when I could understand a little moe I decided to play it properly.
Since then, it has been my favourite game and always will be.
@Jonny123898 Almost the same with me here. I palyed it when i was 7 then got bore of it and played it again when i was 10 and completly understood it and beat it and fell in love with it and final fantasy 13 made me rage a square enix for even trying to make something that bad.
@Jonny123898 This game is near and dear to my heart as well. It's easily my favorite Final Fantasy game. It was the first game in the series I played and beat. The characters are (mostly) all fleshed out as the story progresses, and the plot, while somewhat cliche (all the main games involve saving the world, after all), is nonetheless presented in a fresh and original manner.
Add to that a great soundtrack, of which Kate has done marvelous arrangements of...need I say more?
Really liked the hauntingly bard-like and faintly optimistically tone you gave the piece! You're another inspiration I'll draw upon for some of my own projects I'll be working on this winter. I think the story of a RPG like Mass Effect is comparable to FF games, though it lacks the traces of fantastical childlike innocence that the FF stories pre-12 (or was it pre X-2?) had. Nostalgia or not, there were not a lot of games that compared to FF6-10, then or now. That's why we call them 'great.'
Also, I love this song, though I'm sure I've said that at some point in the past. It has actually inspired me when it comes to writing, so yay. Keep making beautiful music.

It just occurred to me that, aside from it simply being a beautiful song, I also love this because of my strong attraction to things which I find novel and this may be the first time I've run across something which succeeds at combining strong themes of femininity and military duty.
Heck, even attempting such a thing almost never seems to happen and that really saddens me because it makes female characters as a general category feel that little bit more stereotyped and cookie-cutter.
@HeroBragma Agreed ha, Things were sooo much simpler back then. Video games in general were better. Granted the graphics weren't as great but they made up for it ten fold with the story line!! There has not been a game that has been able to capture my attention like the older FF series SINCE I WAS KID. Only thing I moderately enjoy playing is SKYRIM. But i beat the main story line in a day and a half lol wtf!?
@darylguitar21 The game is meant as an open world RPG. I'd say that over 90% of the content is side quests. It is so the player can enjoy the game without worrying about the main story if they choose. Yes the fate of the world hangs in the balance, but there are still other things going on in the world. I will however agree that Skyrim's main story can't hold a candle to the story of many PS1 RPGs. The guild stories also weren't as good as Oblivion's either imo.

If the best part of your life is a video game, you only have yourself to blame. You can be so much more than what you are. Go out and embrace how good adulthood can really be.
