  • nice lateen, but I prefer the oceanic lateen for it's short mast, less top heavy.

  • @flamedrag18 - You will find that this is called a bermudan rig (or marconi in the USA) not lateen as you suggest. The mast is tall but most people do not have any problem with that and the benefit of being so easy to reef and furl away outweighs this, especially compared to lateens, which do not reef well. Upwind performance is markedly better as well.

    Yes - sailing canoes need something to minimise sideslip going across the wind - a leeboard is usually what is fitted - you can see the top handle of it in the video - it's sticking up above the gunwhale and fairly obvious in the last few seconds. A lee/dagger/centre board also provides a pivot point for the boat to turn effectively around as shown in this footage.

  • That was nicely done. I assume you have some sort of centre/lar-board?
