Wow, one of my favorites. Love your work (found via Autotune...). Check out this version by Hot Club of Cowtown, who I think you will really dig. Search youtube for "Ann Hoops to Hot Club of Cowtown in Maggie Walt Skirt" . Great hoop dancing, too.

Is there a particular name for the tappy nontonal sound that the shamisen pick makes when it strums? Because I think that may be one of my favorite parts of your uploads.

Shamisen players use the bachi (the plectrum) to strike through the strings and hit the membrane like a drum.
