wow,...Im a huge Beatles fan, and reading the lyrics to this song really understand how george felt about John. Its touching. RIP,...Thanks for posting
Knowing this song was written for John from George. I cried. This song moved me ... And we've lost both John AND George... Rest In Peace guys. You are DEARLY missed, The world has truely lost two great men who changed the lives of many. They themselves may be gone, but their music, will be forever. <3
Don't forget the George Harrison song, "When We Was FAB" also done later as a Beatles tribute--On that tune, Ringo played drums and Jeff Lynne shared background vocals w/Paul, even though they didn't mention his name on the Cloud 9 album...Mikey
I never realized what truly good people John and Yoko together were. I was too young when they were at their peak but after viewing a documentary about him and Yoko on PBS, I was certainly enlightened. RIP,John 1980-2011 and thanks for all that you did
I like to listen to this and Photograph by Ringo Starr back to back. Both are such sad songs performed by former Beatles and deserved to be played that way.
this song makes me laugh in a good way. i love it! Its like they wrote it to take a walk down memory lane, and instead of moping around about John, celebrating his memory.

Maravilloso homenaje a su "hermano mayor" John Lennon. No hablen de dios, el dice: To the truth when you said, all you need is love. y alguien mas ha escrito que el mejor amigo del diablo era Chapman.De poder viajar en el tiempo, no sería para ver a los beatles, seria para arrancarle los ojos a Chapman antes de que destruyese nuestro mundo¿Ha hecho Macrthney algo parecido? ¿Y a qué espera? Si George hubiese muerto antes,John le habría hecho algo parecido. Gracias George. Por siempre.
This great song (text and music and performance) is a good example of the Beatles' creative force: they created great new things that hadn't existed before. Though it happened "all those years ago", fortunately, they achievement keeps living, adding a value to our life. That makes the life and work of John Lennon, George Harrison (and, of course, of Paul and Ringo as well) a long lasting value.
This is one of those songs that gets under your skin. It is so upbeat in beat and melody and yet about one of the saddest events of the 20th century, the murder of John Lennon. So yes it does capture the upbeat message of the Beatles while talking of such a sad subject. Great Song!!!!
esta cancion es hermosa, no sabia como se llamaba la escuche en los ochentas y ahora que bueno que la encontre, que talentosos y john siempre luchando por la paz.
@TheBennyman23 Both were released at the same time, iirc. Also, Real Love had been in a different version in official releases before (see Imagine: John Lennon soundtrack and Working Class Hero: The Definitive Lennon), whereas Free As A Bird only existed as a bootleg.
DEATH TO MARK DAVID CHAPMAN!! if paroled he said, "I would immediately try to find a job, and I really want to go from place to place, at least in the state, church to church, and tell people what happened to me and point them the way to Christ." If he ever gets out, which he wont, he is going to hopefully be assassinated by someone.. he is now 56 years old..
@Beatlemania196 what are you talking about? george was stabbed multiple times in his chest and had a collapsed lung, but survived.. shortly after he died of lung cancer...
Zero dislikes! Shows you just how many people still love the Beatles and all of their members. I love all of the songs dedicated to Lennon and Harrison. They won't be remembered, because people never forgot.
I have to comment here too... It's the World's loss. Without John and George our place here is a little sadder and yet, I celebrate their music daily. Thanks Guys for being a part of my life, my kids lives and the lives of others. You are truly missed!
My oldest sister whose birthday would have been today. This is for her and all she taught me in her 46 years! This song immediately makes me think of her, she was something very special... "I send out a prayer to you."
Harrison certainly sang the right things about his late bandmate. How much he meant them might be a different matter. This is a guy who published a limited-edition autobiography(I ME MINE)which incredibly failed to mention John even once! Its been well-documented that Lennon was a big brother figure to George in the band's early days. But he couldn't find a way to acknowledge that fact.
While I was never a huge fan of the beatles, there are many songs I enjoy listening to. All four of them were musical geniuses. I also alot of the after Beatles stuff they each did. I still remember about hearing of John's shooting death. I was a kid at the time 7 or 8 years old. This is by far my favorite George Harrison song.
@awrangerfan24 Mark who? Oh, I'm sorry, I hate him so much that I refuse to address that man by name, because in a way, that's giving him the attention he wants, because in my eyes, negative attention is still attention. I think as a form of his final punishment, when he dies, they bury him in a grave with no name on it, so people will forget it. That's what he deserves: To be forgotten.
this song is great! i really like that it even sounds like the same style as a song John would write, slightly similar to "instant Karma" if i do say so myself.
Listen carefully--do you hear any evidence the song could be about Jesus Christ. I definitely do. People will say NO! it;s about John Lennon--sure it is. It also points to the fact that 2000 or so years ago when Jesus was a preteen, he too had the same problem. He was treated like a dog. He was ignored. And he was executed. The parallels here are eerie.
@EHASSEL001 that's a very god observation but the line "They've forgotten all about God" Jesus always had God in his mind even after his crusifiction.
@EHASSEL001 if you notice he also says but you led the way to the truth when you said all you need is love. john always said that and john was all about peace and love. all you need is love is also a beatles song that was sung by john sooo yeah i think its about john. you make a good point that it could be about jesus though...

Actually, the Devil's best friend is referring to the man who murdered John Lennon. The former Beatles decided to never call him by name to avoid giving him any kind of fame.
@liberator235 yeah you hit a lot of points there. i also think that when he says "m talking about giving/ they dont act with much honesty" i think he means his concert for bangladesh where the proceeds never made it to the cause. he did that while john was out preaching "all you need is love". what a beautiful poignant tribute

I LOVE THIS SONG!!! It's a sad song, but there's an "up-beat" so it makes you think of the good times John and George/ John and the rest of The Beatles had!

George started writing this song before John had passed...

@brittany2kira Yeah, and he intended Ringo to sing it, but Ringo said it was too high. Then when John passed, he removed Ringo's vocals, kept his drum part, and reworded it. Beautiful song. R.I.P. John and George. :(

I LOVE THIS SONG!!! It's a sad song, but there's an "up-beat" so it makes you think of the good times John and George/ John and the rest of The Beatles had!
