I've been a fan of Wellers' for a long long time but this is crap imo. Branching out is only good if the stuff you're doing is quality. I'm not like some people who'd like whatever he did whether it was crap or not.

Does anybody know what "7&3 is the strikers name" means? Is this a striker in football? A political striker? Why doesn't "strikers" have an apostrophe? I'm guessing these are references to things that are clear in England, but I can't make heads or tails of them. I also know Paul has said the song is a swipe at the monarchy and aristocracy, which I see in the lyrics, but it doesn't help me with the title.

britain needs standardisation...in fish n chip quality. in newspaper. at a fair price. where the management dont hog the salt n vinegar. paul weller should branch out. put down the gibson and pick up the fat frier.perhaps only weller's brand name could stand behind a product, as reasonably priced and cross the board tasty...like say, blue magic. put down the sg, paul, pick up the fat frier. mod n chips. twice. my favourite chip shop.

@dukebox i totally disagree- This is called branching out and reminds me of some of the jams experimental stuff- at 52 its good to see paul breaking free from traditonal song structures which if you were a musician youd know get pretty confining!- atleast this is challenging! But one mans garbage is anothers treasure - glad hes throwing out the rule book!
