Sony SX40 Handycam 60x Optical Zoom Demo

Thank you, that was truly helpful. I've never owned a video camera, so this is all new to me. Were all the zooms with just the 60X optical, or with the digital enhancement too ? Are full optical zoom still shots more detailed than the video ? I live in Brazil, the TV system here is PAL, can the cam be switched between NTSC and Pal, or is that not a problem ? Sorry to ask so many questions, but you seem to be one of the few on here that actually knows about this stuff ! LOL cheers

I have this camera and it occasionally speeds up the video when u view it on the computer, which is irritating, any idea how to correct this!! It never used to do it, just recently!! I use the medium quaslity setting most of the time!!

@70dustpan - it also happened to me sometimes especially when i reduced the size of the movie to the smalle size by using window movie maker,Try use NERO or other..now i use samsung-intelli studio to edit my movie...

@adipresley mine doesnt do it anymore, I record in the lowest recording file size and it still looks great and I use nero media player to view it and it works great, these videos suck viewing though windows media player, i think that was my problem

@rocktrns17 I saw I thing on TV a few years ago and this man, formerly from some agency (forget which one) was angry about people losing their privacy. He disclosed that they can hear anything, down to a whisper & see what you are cooking for breakfast. A woman I know who tutors saw a student after she went on a field trip to the CIA, they had a big computer, she put in her address and could see her parents inside their house. We get 50 yrs technology behind what they have.

this is not a great camera by no means. . like someone else said. . all zoom, no quality. if you watch it on anything larger than 15", its no good in comparison, even on high quality recording. . . I would not suggest this camcorder to anyone.

what does the file come when u import it to ur computer ? .mov or .mwv . 4mpeg like i dont know, and what do u use to edit your videos like windows movie maker ?

It's not HD... just 720x480 I believe... and don't forget that YouTube compresses it more.

@rubbertoe Even better, rubbertoe, it has 720x576, I have it! It is the best camera from the Sony's offer (others are expencive, and they (if HD) have 10-20x optical!!!). And it has incredible design! It even won Reddot design award!

@thebigwitness I have this cam, it has 60x optical just like my telescope, and it's like 10 times smaller than it! Ofcourse that the quaillity will be loosed if zoomed, due to the lens flare. I am recording in 720x576 in HQ quality, and ofcourse, you could never load the video from this camera on YouTube because 10 seconds of video with this cam is about 20mb!
