@teamjackattack10 6's anchors always mention the main presenting talent in their closes, regardless of whether they actually appeared. They've done it in the exact same way for years. (Remember, this is the station that still labels its live shots "Action Cam" shots.)
Personally, I like the more formal feel. It helps me remember the talent at 6, and it's better than the rushed closes other stations do.
@samjarris If you're comparing today? Then yes, Charlie > Jeff.
20 years ago? I'd say about equal. When Jeff was at his peak he had tremendous power in his voice. Not the growl of Van Dyke, but still a magnificent voice.
And up until a decade or so ago, Jeff was pretty much the #1 or #2 voice there alongside Paul Norton. They were using his voice out of tradition, though his glory days had sadly long past.
It's a true shame that Jeff's voice gave out; I still do a double take when I hear Charlie's voice. But time does move on and Charlie does sound great!
Smart thing that WPVI did by switching Kaye with Van Dyke. Charlie's deep growl fits the urgency of MCTYW like a glove. Jeff's voice was just unbearable to listen to. Jeff is a legend though. But Charlie's voice is a welcome change.
VO decay is a sad shame. But at least it's not just Jeff Kaye that's had it...Paul Anthony. Compare every single WOOD open since the early 1990s (in fact, it was so bad that the NMSA actually didn't have some of them tagged properly until recently).
Bill Ratner on a Promo, too (I've heard that production music promoting KGMB's Sunrise show). The Big Board promo is cool, the touchscreen always a neat gimmick. Incorporated "Move Closer To Your World", too. Wonder if they have talent V/Os for the weekend opens?

Brian Taff is a good news anchor.

If Rick, Monica and Jim were all off this day, why were they mentioned in the close as if they reported? Im lost.

@HulkieG Thanks for the explanation

@teamjackattack10 Because they are the anchors usually on at that time. They say their names and then thank the entire Action News Team.

Charlie > Jeff. Charlie is the leading news Imager. Jeff has done very little; only did opens for WPVI.

The first time I heard Charlie's voice, I almost thought it was Jeff for a second there.

Van Dyke's voice indeed fits the theme!

Charlie was the obvious choice. The voice of God does the open justice.
Hulkie, maybe you can answer this. I haven't heard Van Dyke voice a close. Is it known if he did voice a close plugging phone numbers and what not?

For the 5 and 6 opens Monday-Wednesday at 5 since Adam Joseph is named the meterologist for those times: Van Dyke would said:
"With Meterologist Adam Joseph, Rick Williams, and Monica Malpass"
Thursday-Friday:
"With Meterologist Cecily Tynan, Rick Williams, and Monica Malpass"
6pm only mentions Jim, no one in sports or weather department.
11pm mentions Jim and Cecily
