  • Been watching this on ITV4 a lot recently, And always thought how it must have been a good example of the last few years of London being inhabited by good old fashioned Londoners, It is a shame how things have changed now

  • mini Iraq and afganistan now living in our council houses and claiming every benefit in tha book

  • LOL, when London actually had English people living in it!!!!!

  • My Last name is Minder! lol

  • Sing the theme tune....

  • I'm from the US and never seen this show, but this theme just screams 80s buddy cop!

  • epic

  • Still one of the greatest TV shows ever. It's a legend and I never tire of watching the boxset.

  • terrys white capri is in bob hoskins garage he brought it last year at auction

  • i was too young to remember this, but i love watching minder when its on tv

  • write the theme toon.. sing the theme toon...

  • the best tv programme made.......

  • @Isleofskye

London is and always has been, like all other major cities of the World, a cosmopolitan place. From Roman Londinium to Ken Livingstonium and will be to infinity and beyond.

People want to leave for the country? Good luck. You don't know what you are missing.

  • and god bless its being shown on TV this week! ^_^

  • IsleofSKy has summed it up perfectly. I am from West London 39 years old and now live in the suburbs, this is Minder is a perfectly apt portrayal of west london in the 70's and 80's. Spot on!

  • i want a ford capri now

  • They don't make tv like this anymore.

  • Not now Dave, large V.A.T.!

  • Ah this is the greatest theme of all time!!Brings a smile to the face, bet Tel had a nice little earner from it too!!

  • A U.S. show that is similiar to this is Hardcastle and McCormick.

  • That capri is still going.

  • They don't make tv like this anymore, in fact i don't watch tv now i just download what i wanna watch (don't have to watch the adverts then) & i buy DVD boxsets of the tv shows of the 80's & yes i do own the complete Minder on DVD boxset :)

  • I often drive past Terry's old flat just off the Talgarth Rd heading out of London, last time i looked it still had the tiled steps outside the front door....i grew up watching Minder, The Professionals and The Sweeney.......the good old days

  • That white wall behind Terry.........I used to live in that house......51 Dewhurst Road just off Shepherd's Bush Road.

Little Barratt houses on the car-lot now.

  • Terry often uses the phrase ' Wot's Occuring' long before it was used in Gavin & Stacey

  • "What are we gonna get, 'er indoors?"

  • This is how I discovered England...Thanks to Minder.

  • Hes as hard as all of the Eastender pussys... hes a legend u nobs!

  • Waterman couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag.

  • Up tae ma knees in fuckin' cow pat!!

  • CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how the hell can dennis waterman be a minder? there aint nothing remotely hard about him!??

  • @goldyn12345 Not true. He used to be a professional boxer, as did his old man. He'd have you.

  • Minder is the best programme ever - Bar none. Even loved the later episodes with Gary Webster , George Cole is a legend and it says a lot that even when Dennis Waterman left Minder was still better than most programmes on t.v. right now.

  • You don't mess with Terry McGann

  • Aurthur: "Did you know the human spine is not strong enough to support a being that weighs more than 60 kilos and stands upright all the time?"

    (bystander): "I didnt know that!"

Arthur: " C'MON TERRY!! Hurry up and get those boxes of magazines loaded onto the truck! We havent got all day!!"

George Cole should have got a BAFTA for hos role in this.

  • me and george cole had a pucnch up and he beat me in the 70s coz he is hard and hes a spiv yeh yeh

  • dont be messing with george cole. even now hes capable of landing a solid punch to any jocks face. one thing george cant stand is jocks. from back when he was in the army and that. he wouldnt come on wogan cos rod steward was there. and he isnt even scottish.

  • Bullshit. His mentor and acting peer was Alistair Sim (Edinburgh born and bred). He actually lived with Sim and his wife for years.

Check out his performance in "A Christmas Carol" with Sim. Get your facts right next time. Idiot.

  • yeah. and if you really know the history you will recall that sim tried it on with his wife. and george battered him. THATS why he hads jocks, and always will.

  • Cole held Sim in the highest regard and has refused regularly over the years to comment on repeated questions regarding Sims private life.

In Minder there was many story lines involving Scotland and Scottish characters so to suggest Cole would be unprofessional enough to refuse to take a stage with Rod Stewart (a cockney) is ridiculous.

Ian, don`t be bitter just because your mum gave you a Scottish name.

  • its like GTA lol

  • As a 55-year-old allow me to say that this PERFECTLY depicted London life in that fabulous era. Thats when "Londoners" inhabited London and what characters most of them were! ( if a little dodgy!).

Then we all moved to the safe Suburbs and Home Counties in the late 1970's/1980's but we all miss the vibrancy and stimulation of our London.

Now circa 2009 many Inner London areas have few English around and its a crying shame.

    The mosques are nice though!:(

    London humour at its finest!

  • I was only born in 82, but my dad often comments how he misses those days when I watch minder or the sweeney with him. I was born in the wrong era as I think i would have liked it back then.

  • @Isleofskye - and I just love the English sing-along in all it's manifest glory, common of that era also.

  • @Isleofskye too right speaking as a welsh truckdriver i cant ever remember longing to see a real englishman as much as my last visit to london no english there anymore just africans and pakis oh yes and the occasional mosque ;(

  • @Isleofskye you are so right my friend, it really is a crying shame and i´m from bournemouth!

  • @ChannonFodder

Funnily enough I've just come back from a London Casino and even at 5.00AM on a quiet January Morning the Black Guys are STILL on the street "chilling"...they are street people in every sense but I bet they won't be up at 7.30AM to prepare for work! lol

    THAT is London's future.

  • @Isleofskye and they complain about us being racist to them, well they fucking took london

  • @Isleofskye You have to have humor to say the mosques are nice..lol, im a northerner & they do say our humor is better then in the south, but i certainly can't compete with that..lol on a more serious note its a damn shame whats happening to our country, but at least we can say we did have it good it is all down hill now :(

  • @iguanna41

As an old Man of 75 said to me last year in South London "We had the best of it, lad" and I think he is right M8:)

  • @iguanna41,

Why don't you spell humoUr the British English way if your so proud of your country.

  • I was a PC in the early 90`s in the met and I was on duty in Churchfield st in Acton doing security for minder, the famous winchester bar front door was just a sign over a house front door, this was after Waterman left, but I did see Arthur.

  • I was in a pub with some workmates, in the tap room; Dennis Waterman was in the Snug, and for a bet, I went upto Mr Waterman and asked him into the taproom as 'some lads' wanted to speak to him. He came into the taproom with me, bought me a pint, and was an all round great guy to talk to. Really down to Earth. I was only 18 at the time.

  • 'Pack' would be the correct collective noun. However, I am not lying.

  • i fingered my uncle ernies dog........i suppose thats lies aswell eh?

  • probably true !

  • Slap the Bass!

  • in the opening sequence, the white ford escort mk 2 with the X-pack body kit was, going to be the original minder car, but this was dismissed in favour of the capri, and if you notice in some of the programmes, the car that terry used was in fact a white mk1 capri with the R registered plates on it and notthe mk2that it should have been!

  • You wonder how Terry would have been able to afford the mk2 Capri 'S' just coming out of jail! The X-Pack Escort together with the Mk2 Capri S, you couldn't knock Arthur for these two rare beasts!

  • Minder was great. I loved the episodes with deadpan Sargeant Chisholm and his dopey sidekick Taff. Does anyone remember the episode where Arthur stands as a local councillor and gives everyone a free box of chocs if they vote for him !! - total class

  • I will love Terry McCann all my life!

  • have you got a picture on your licence sir?

  • On the DVLA enquiry page it says it was crushed on the 1st October 1992 and register on the 25th January 1977

  • Shame, could have been worth a lot of money now...

  • That car was crushed in 1992

why didn't they sell it on for gold lyk they did with the trotters regal van

  • The car still exists! I believe it is owned by the Capri owners club.

  • shane ritchie is a twat.go back to butlins you mockney...and take the geezer from thunderbirds with you as well.dont change a broken record.

  • Me and me brother used to watch this all the time when we were kids.

One episode i remember has got suzi quatro in it playing terry's bird

  • my uncle sam played bass on this tune with gerard kenny....in 1979....

  • Legendry. God damn you Shane Ritchie...damn your eyes!!!!!!

  • One of the great TV characters of all time Author Daley, George Cole what an actor he made that role his own. I loved watching this while growing up in the 80s.

  • Me too. Minder defined my entire teenage years as I grew up in Thatcher's Britain. TV has never been better since.

  • Iv got a nice 3 litre Capri

  • Two houses on that car lot now, classic intro through...

  • You want me to write the da feem tune, sing da feem tune and star in it.

  • I gave you a thumbs up!! Obviously all these minder fans are a bit touchy about the little britain thing :-D plus, I was gonna say the same thing myselft but just had a quick check and found you....

BTW I liked Minder too when I was a youngun.

  • Has to be one of the best ever UFOs (shows) on the bowl of jelly (telly).

    Very good king kong (song).

  • Yeh i seen these on itv4, liked em so much i tracked down the series 1 box set on dvd! love the fact theyre not tryin to be mega gangsters, just lovin bein petty small time geezers

  • Minder rocks. I have every Cole/Waterman episode on DVD. It was shite after that...

  • wat a song!!! I want it played at my funeral!!!

  • Very Good. Been watching the re-runs of these on ITV4. :)

  • that was tv at its best ,.

  • bugatti veron

  • what you chattin bout :L

  • im a big minder fan TH3G1MPO1D im just having a laugh with the comment on what car is it..for me the best tv series ever cya...

  • What sort of car is that?

  • Ford Capri

  • The only thing i ever liked about this show when I was a kid was the theme tune.

  • Tried to get into this the other night, but didnt do anything for me im afraid. Cant beat the old version, even he singings more better than the new one.... more raw and geezer like.

  • I mind I was steaming and in a bit of a downer and clocked my mate walking down the street singing this and it picked me right up. This tune is legend.

  • And now there remaking it with shane ritchie playing arthur daleys grand son haha and its on channel 5. Why dont they let it rest in peace? Its only a matter of time before they make a prequel to only fools and horses.

  • And they are now going to do that! OFAH prequel that is.

  • Proper televison programme - loved it as a kid (was born in '78)still ove it now . George Cole is my honorary grandad!!! This and Only Fools and Horses is my fave

  • was the nuts watched all through my childhood and i was born in 81

still watch it now on the re runs

  • Great British comedy drama!!

  • great show

  • go to

    gubadotcom

and see free episodes of minder, the sweeney ( about 30 ) and new tricks if you are a waterman fan

  • i used to skip PE in school after lunch to come home and watch this! much more beneficial!!!

  • Starsky & Hutch was in the seventies. But I agree TV was a lot better in the seventies & eighties.

  • Interesting clip from a new digital master. I noticed the "EUSTON FILMS PRESENTS" label is missing from here.

  • Series 7-10 had the Euston Films Presents label.

  • quality viewing. my favorite show from the UK 80s. arfur was funny. i remember a funny scene where he passed out from a bout of cowardice in the pub and was then angry that dave the bartender tried to revive him with water and not brandy. great writing.

and top job sabbat34. this is hidef!

  • Classic!

  • Shit i so love this ,as a kid i watched this every week..... still do now..... "i could be so good for you" well i could listen to it play after play and never get bored !!!

  • yeye, i whatch the A-Team...thats quite good, but 'minder' and 'the professionals' are the best.

  • im 13, and i cant live to miss this programme, its ace

  • i must have been 8 or 9 when i was watching this your 13 cool. what about the A-Team, Knight Rider and Airwolf you watched those??? if not try them too

  • Not me, I searched it because it's classic. Little Britain is shit.

  • Simply brill.. bring back the 80s !! TV today is a load of rubbish

  • This was a magical, magical character-based the type of which is unlikely to return. Never a bad episode, and even managed to survive the loss of one of it's 3 main characters late on in it's run (the 3rd - and equally important character - being the city of London itself)

  • i was born in 1990 but i think this is brill. I watch it every saturday on itv4

  • i loved this when i was a kid ,still do magic

  • best show ever.. think it got around 14million watching.. that would not happen with todays crap tv!!!!!!

  • Minder was brilliant.Just don't make tv like that anymore. Love to get my hands on that Escort mk2! proper cars eh..

  • @171979 I love the cars on this show, i am gonna get myself a nice classic one day maybe a 1978 Escort maybe on a S or T reg, the cars today are shite with all that ecu crap in them that break.

  • @iguanna41 Yep..cars/vehicles where easier to work on back then too..,but modern technology has its good points though too,but i think they have gone to far with it all nowadays...Would'nt mind geting a mk2 like the Capri above but the MkII 3.0 Series X-Pack.. like the one Doyle drove in "The Professionals"...

  • One of the greatest tv shows of all time in my opinion. Was appointment tv in the 80's and really funny. And all the british stars queued up to be guest on it too. Brilliant stuff.

  • Write the theme tune... sing the theme tune?

  • Sorry to ask but their another show on around the time this show used to be on called Chavalier. I can not find it anywhere does anyone remember it. it was about this Devil dude

  • Comment removed

  • Great tv show with razor sharp dialogue. A much missed classic. George Cole and Dennis Waterman made a great team.

  • I had 3.0 S capri back then. Now that was a car. My friend had a 2.8i Special. That was an even better car. I'm getting old...

  • Three years ago I almost bought a 2.8i Special, except I didn't trust the showroom selling it! Wish I had, I was only 22 at the time.

  • You might have dodged a bullet there mate. Good looking car but terrible record for maintenance etc

  • Yeah so I hear. I doubt I would've still had it today if I had bought it...

  • l wonder how long it took to get it perfect ?

  • Classic.

  • Terry Mccann came in at number 7 in TV's 50 Greatest Hard Men. Personally I would put him in the top 5, but at least he's in the top 10.

  • "terrence!"

  • ONE OF THE BEST EVER TV SHOWS

  • loved this as a kid.capri club international (cci)have this car and show it alot.

  • it look like a rs2000 downatthea1

  • will do!

  • Does anyone know what escort that is on the forecourt??? Fantastic show, certainly don't make them like this any more!

  • i totally agree with you.

  • its a rs 1800 mk2 escort

  • HI, The Escort is actually a `16 Sport`, but the rare HARRIER Model , it looks like an RS1800 because of the AVO archs. only on 79 T-reg & 1980 V & W reg, which was lovely then & even greater now because it is so bloody RARE!!

  • i think it is a ford escort mk2 harrier with an x pack body kit

  • HI, The Escort is actually a `16 Sport`, but the rare HARRIER Model , made only on 79 T-reg & 1980 V & W reg, which was lovely then & even greater now because it is so bloody RARE!!

  • Arthur Daley is the greatest character EVER on TV.

  • I am so glad i got freeview for things like this Minder (i still have the theme tune on vinyl single) The Sweeney The Professionals Lovejoy (shurrup its good) Two Ronnies The Saint Randall & Hopkirk cant think of anymore they show, must be some. Proper tv, good fun and no PC bulls**t, I dont watch much new stuff these days, its all this stuff on freeview or my DVD's of 70's to early 90's tv, and its not just a nostlagia trip, it was just better tv.
  • Boon was another great one. Don't make them like that anymore.

  • I also think the old shows are best an im only 15.

    My top 5 shows are

    1.The Persuaders

    2.The Rockford Files

  • Is that a Mk II Capri?

  • Yes

  • the good old days when a shovel was called a shovel.....

    3. A Touch of Frost

    4. Darling Buds of May

    Pure Classics

  • Last of the Summer Wine? Well... the first couple of series, maybe - about 30 years ago. It's just gone on and on and on and on far too long...
