@dropless2002 no, see, i have a scientific explanation. after watching the video, they were shaking so hard from the shock that they couldn't control their mouseclicks. they tried clicking (like) but couldn't aim properly.
I've always wondered what song this was! Now I finally know, I realized that it was The Pittsburgh Syndrome just now cus I listened to that song and I could recall that I had heard the drums before! He is a good drummer indeed. Quite versatile
If anyone in their right fuckin mind saw that unbelievable amount of skill would ignore the sound of his fuckin snare. Quit pointing out the negative because of your fuckin jealousy, stupid fuck.
I've noticed that a lot of really fast drummers use a certain grip to get a lot of speed. Anybody have any insight into this? (other than just "loosening up" :P)
alot of drummers that play this fast play on the top of the hi hat hitting with just the tip of the stick, instead of hitting with the shaft on the side of the hi hat where there is no rebound, mike mangini plays the same way with his right hand as dirk except mangini actually has his hi hats tilted in so hitting the top of the hi hat is easier and both play using their fingers not wrist, but than again lombardo does it the old fashion way so yah either way works i guess
Although i dont like comparing drummers, i find Henry Ranta much more creative then Dirk Verbeuren. No offense to Dirk, he is a awesome technical drummer but I really miss Henry's part in the band. His work in "The Chainheart Machine" was sick.
honestly if anyone has anything negative about Dirk's playing it's because they aren't a talented drummer themself, I think drummer or not everyone should be able to hear his pure drumming talent but if you can't you are either a hater or just too slow to keep up, either way he is truly great no matter what anyone says.

Killer song imo. And Dirk Verbeuren definately adds a lot of dynamics to the softer songs. In fact, he plays with more dynamics than most metal drummers.
Just because you can't appreciate the flow or catchiness doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You simply don't have the ear or the liking to this kind of drumming and that is totally ok but your reality is not an objective one. To help you out, listen to the bass drum and the fillings. The "hand drumming" becomes a speed momentum whereas the music is in the bass drum and the fills.
Soilwork-amazing music by cool dudes who know how to write heavy catchy shit.
Scarve-amazing music that is a little more underground because it's a little more chaotic. Great band.
Sybreed-amazing music with some good melodies, awesome machine gun double bass.
All are great bands. I'm a fan of all three. I think if they read all the posts with people bashing each other over their music, they'd be disappointed. We're all metalheads aren't we?

@assassthenation Nope, it's all fingerwork, and as you can see, he's actually quite good at it ^^
For those who don't know: gravity blasting is also known as the one-handed roll, in which u use the rim of the snaredrum as your fulcrum.

zephyr30 3 years ago
You think Soilwork is a popband in comparison. Your criteria for originality, technical ability and emotion is already more than dubious. You have no basis other than your own opinion. Bands like Scarve are a dime a dozen and Sybreed uses chorus lines straight out of a "The Killers" tune.
Schatje79 3 years ago
Talk about a pop band. Soilwork is quite a technical band if you're any kind of competent musician. They're original enough for most considering any band can have a comparison made to others in the same genre...and if you don't feel the emotion from Soilworks music, hey...sucks for you!
Ciao zephypooh!
Schatje79 3 years ago
actually there are technical parts in soilwork (mostly the drum parts).
But if you take a whole song it's just basic swedish metal like In flames and stuff like that, that's mainstream, sorry.
and the emotion in soilwork looks fake to me, but that's my opinion, we can't have the same tastes.
by the way i'm trying to stay respectful with you! Do the same thing!
oh and i said popband in comparison to scarve. Obviously, it's not a popband!
zephyr30 3 years ago
Scarve a dime a dozen? Are you kidding or something??
and what's your basis?
And sorry if i find chorus lines from sybreed beautiful and those from soilwork awful!

Fuck off, Scarve are unique compared to Soilwork. Have you ever even listened to them?
