Contact Jamie Ducket at oc transpo. he is part of management and takes care of scheduling and will tell you how many people work more tham 8 hours a day. cause most buses are about 22 hours a day and the only drivers that do less that are the one that drives during the rush hours only and have to go to work twice a day. The city cost the taxpayers grief and $ the taxpayer paid about 105 million during the strike in parking and comute over the strike not including bussinesses going under people losing there jobs and then the world hockey coming to ottawa and christmas. Why is Oc the only city that has buses that get stuck in the snow? Why did the city buy 45 double decker buses for Oc that can't go go under a bridges cause to high at 700 000 each? Why did we buy the orion buses that no other city want.

Atu 279 doesn't trust the city and as of Monday full busses are fixed so why can't the service go back to full service? Plus the city has booked 200 busses just to fill in the rushes and after those 3 hours they sit and get paid for the rest of the 8 hours. don't believe me just look at any major transit stop and see how many busses are sitting around after the rush. I never trusted the city cause it all half truths at your expense.

The people who ride the bus are generally the working poor, the elderly etc. They are the people who got hurt by this. Talked to a taxi driver the other day. He told me about all the working poor people who had to take taxis who couldn't afford it. A strike is supposed to generate public support to there cause. Unfortunately, this strike has caused the city to turn on the bus drivers due to there actions. On the news on CTV last night, there is a reported 50% increase in traffic accidents from January 1st to 18th. They state its a matter of time before people are found dead in there homes due to this strike! I wonder how many innocent people will be hurt, or even die because of the recklessness of this strike. Legal or not.

Oc transpo drivers that do overtime. please help me solve this problem. Most senior drivers that do overtime have no kids livin at home and are grown and put in the extra time to buy toys. The mayor doesn't want to get rid of the overtime but just move it around so everyone is forced to do some. If the driver who does overtime is cause work is available outside normal drivers shifts and the work has to be covered. If they don't do it someone will do at overtime rates but oc always used senority.
If you don't want those shifts to be covered and then people would be waiting for a bus that will never come. Oc has lot s of work available on a daily basis but not enough to hire some new drivers. So those drivers that will make more money than a teacher don't get TWO MONTHS off so compare properly and look at Vancover, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal and Hull transit and compare.
Oc Transpo is great! You have to respect this city. To spend 30 million in double decker busses that can't go under bridges or drive in winter. exactly the OC transpo could have gone on strike at any time in the last 9 months. Yet they chose to wait and go no strike during one of the busiest times of the year during the season with the worst driving conditions. It is especially despicable when we are in a recession where people are being laid off by the 100's. Then compound the fact that the people who depend on the OC transpo the most are those with low incomes.
Then add that the strike has impacted the profits of stores causing the store owners to lay off even more employees. And add the students who missed or were late for exams for courses that cost 1000's of dollars. All because a couple bus drivers (some of which already make $100,000 a year) want a 7% increase in wages over the course of 3 years. The union representing the service sector, which is multiple times bigger then the ATU settled for 5% increase in the same period a couple months ago
And the union representing the security officers hired by the OC transpo are planning on settling for about 5% as well. And the bus drivers want to pick their own roots in a way so that some drivers can get 8 hours pay for 6 hours of work, something no employee any where can do and add the fact that other transit unions have settled for less then that. And when you compare to the recent tranist worker strike in Toronto where the province ordered them back to work.
Add all this together and it makes them look like greedy and pathetic people while destroying any chance they had at gaining public support. Also add the fact they still get 1/2 pay while not actually doing any work while other people are struggling to make ends meet working 12hrs a day for minimum wage. Seriously the bus drivers don't appreciate what they have.

Not only was the service shit before they went on strike, with pass/ticket price increase almost every year, now people who are coming home/leaving for the holidays, people who are sick, who have exams or who have a job can't get anywhere without being stuck in traffic for hours before they encounter PICKETERS who block the roads even.

The city cost the taxpayers grief and $ the taxpayer paid about 105 million during the strike in parking and comute over the strike not including bussinesses going under people losing there jobs and then the world hockey coming to ottawa and christmas. Why is Oc the only city that has buses that get stuck in the snow? Why did the city buy 45 double decker buses for Oc that can't go go under a bridges cause to high at 700 000 each? Why did we buy the orion buses that no other city want.

The city offered us all that money to take more control over the shifts to have us work more hours during the day to cut back the hiring of more drivers. i.e. a bus thats out 22 hour would have 3 drivers on it 2 that would work 8 hours and one that would work 6 instead they want two drivers working 11 hours strait without breaks cause drivers only get 5 to 10 min breaks at each end.

Atu 279 doesn't trust the city and as of Monday full busses are fixed so why can't the service go back to full service? Plus the city has booked 200 busses just to fill in the rushes and after those 3 hours they sit and get paid for the rest of the 8 hours. don't believe me just look at any major transit stop and see how many busses are sitting around after the rush. I never trusted the city cause it all half truths at your expense.

The people who ride the bus are generally the working poor, the elderly etc. They are the people who got hurt by this. Talked to a taxi driver the other day. He told me about all the working poor people who had to take taxis who couldn't afford it. I heard about old ladies walking in minus 30 degree temps to see their doctors etc. That is what I will remember. I will never forget it.

When transit service resumes, I urge every Ottawan to climb on board an OC Transpo bus free of charge. When the bus shows up at your stop, get on, grab a seat and ignore the driver.

Patric I don't get paid by the fare and I as many other drivers don't give a shit about the fare. We get paid by the hour and you can only effect me by speeding up the service so I get paid less. Personally now after losing two months pay I want to have all the busses fixed at first so everyone is back to work and then slow things down so the company will lose there 8 million and more. Cause don't forget we lost 51 days of work and that memory is hard to forget.

On the news on CTV last night, there is a reported 50% increase in traffic accidents from January 1st to 18th. They state its a matter of time before people are found dead in there homes due to this strike! I wonder how many innocent people will be hurt, or even die because of the recklessness of this strike. The city is going to spend so far 38 million to have the busses come back to full service. over a 3 million dispute. Oc transpo drivers that do overtime. please help me solve this problem. Most senior drivers that do overtime have no kids livin at home and are grown and put in the extra time to buy toys. The mayor doesn't want to get rid of the overtime but just move it around so everyone is forced to do some. If the driver who does overtime is cause work is available outside normal drivers shifts and the work has to be covered. If they don't do it someone will do at overtime rates but oc always used senority.

If you don't want those shifts to be covered and then people would be waiting for a bus that will never come. Oc has lot s of work available on a daily basis but not enough to hire some new drivers. So those drivers that will make more money than a teacher don't get TWO MONTHS off so compare properly and look at Vancover, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal and Hull transit and compare.

Yet they chose to wait and go no strike during one of the busiest times of the year during the season with the worst driving conditions. It is especially despicable when we are in a recession where people are being laid off by the 100's. Then add that the strike has impacted the profits of stores causing the store owners to lay off even more employees. And add the students who missed or were late for exams for courses that cost 1000's of dollars. All because a couple bus drivers (some of which already make $100,000 a year) want a 7% increase in wages over the course of 3 years. The union representing the service sector, which is multiple times bigger then the ATU settled for 5% increase in the same period a couple months ago

And the bus drivers want to pick their own roots in a way so that some drivers can get 8 hours pay for 6 hours of work, something no employee any where can do and add the fact that other transit unions have settled for less then that. And when you compare to the recent tranist worker strike in Toronto where the province ordered them back to work.

I think what people in Ottawa can't understand is that they make more money than the average joe by far. The bulk of the drivers have this additude that they DON'T get paid enough, and we put up with this crap every couple years. The drivers should be greatfull for the high wages they get for a meeger driving job.

It would be nice in theory, but these drivers get paid the same whether the bus is full or empty, the same assholes with the seniority will still be getting paid for their coffee breaks. Even empty, I bet they'd still be late. The best thing to do is to call OCTranspo and complain EVERY TIME you have a problem on a bus, when they do come back that is. Until then, I wish everyone that is stranded at all the very best of luck, YOU are the ones that have my sympathy, not the drivers.
