It's why I liked the dub over the Japanese version. I watched this first and it has a special place in my heart. One of the few things 4kids did right in this world...
I really love how Kaiba was given his moment to shine a lot - like Yugi, he was a damn strong character and not to be taken lightly at ALL. In Dragon Ball Z, however, the antihero Vegeta was unjustly bitched into the series punching bag for all the bad guys. He was NEVER given a chance for a moment to shine. NEVER! It pissed me off because Vegeta is my number one favorite antihero, and Kaiba is a close second.

I agree, Kaiba's original voice was epic sexiness. :3 Later on he sounds a bit too much like Brock, if Brock had constant male PMS. I'd still hit it though. XD
But considering how his character shifts from cold and ruthless to more human, it does make sense.
I love it how on the blimp when Ishizu first steps up, Kaiba's trench coat looks like it's blowing in the wind but there IS NO wind. And, then, the wind actually DOES start to blow and his trench coat falls into place the way coats are when there isn't wind. What does any of this prove? That Kaiba is a sexy beast that defies natural logic.
I like both DK and BC voices (its kinda an unfair comparison because he's ALWAYS dramatic during duels, which he isn't doing in the first example), but after BC, they kinda emasculiated his voice, like what it was in the YGO movie. It was terrible.
The japnese voice is cooler, but I lke his DK voice too. The Battle City voice just sounds like hsi going to bite your head off if you say hello to him. XD Which he probably would.
I noticed it too. I think I like the Battle City one better upon further reflection, perhaps because I'm so used to it. Though I miss the sexy, velvety, rich, dark...okay I'll stop - voice from before, the latter voice sounds more "all business no play" just like Kaiba essentially is. He gets to the point and no longer likes to toy with his opponents as much later on.
I'm glad someone pointed this out, but I never really looked closely at this. It does sound real different. I guess evil Kaiba had a sexy smooth voice. And I came up with a whole explanation about why his ego took a huge ass boost, but I can't go into it here. But either way I like Kaiba's voice period, but I do miss the sexy smoothness from before. Oh well.

but i like the SOUND of kaiba's newer voice but i like the less dramatic personality in the older ones....and his bod is WAY sexier in the new ones....but i like how he uses more intelligent words in the older ones...makes him really prove he's a genius
oh and as for the personality change, well the whole 'evil' side being sent to the shadow realm would change someone. But there also wasnt much chance for him to be overdramatic.. and remember, EVERY character in this show is over dramatic all the time. Even when they draw a card. It makes for a great drinking game :P

I mean, I could do it and he'd answer me. He changed the tone of his voice for this particular season. They all sound different in Duelist Kingdom. It was, after all, the first season and they were all just trying everything out. He sounds the same in the unedited versions.

Well, the last compairison was almost the same, except BC Kaiba in that last clip wasn't as evil sounding. And you have to realize this was before he got 'Mind Crush'.

To be fair, in Duelist Kingdom, he was number one. He beat duelists and didn't afraid of anything.
Then some punk kid humiliates him (well, actually he just REALLY lucked out and summoned Exodia) and his honor has taken a beating.
Until he proves once and for all that he is better than Yugi by beating him at a children's card game, he's pissed 24/7.

There is one VERY simple reason for the change of voice. It was the very first episode. Its the same in Duelist Kingdom as it is in Battle City.
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the 'evil' Kaiba. Its just the voices actor trying new things. Thats it. Plain and simple.
