Im very happy I was born in 1990. I love this kind of music. I like to call it grunge/alternative/post-rock but I really don't like classifying music too much because I hate to be one of "those kids" if you know what I mean. I think it's cool that I was born right in the middle when this music was at it's peak and I still choose it over anything else today.
I want to hurt the people who disliked. Unless they did it to spite the system. And well if that is your case, bravo. But if you really don't like this song...well..forget it...its not worth it.
Never forget the excitement I felt when I first saw the Hunger Strike video. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen that these two awesome bands could join like some musical voltron.
The version done in LA 2009 much, much better. Cornell's voice is totally back and shows him to be the most pertinent rock singer of the last 20 years

@KhabukiJo it may be dead to u but its still alive and well were im from it was never a fad . unlike todays bullshit so khabukijo you can fuck off and die oooooo and i fucked your sister two nights ago your mom wanted some so i just shoot my nut in her eyeball . so go cry some place else
all these people talking about grunge bands and mixing just made me think... Grohl (on drums), Ament, Cornell, and Cantrell (maybe along with Thayil) would be like the best supergroup in the history of mankind
There was a different feeling in the air when this song came out. Even in distant Bulgaria, where I'm from. The feeling that music can come from the heart and soul, and it can mean something, especially after the dreadful 80's era, full of phonies. The feeling that these people on stage really put their emotions into their notes and lyrics. And all that done by incredible musicians. Now it's all lame, and it's not because I grew old. It's because it's all fake.
@mylyn1375 WOW..does your mommy know you are online..if you are not 7 then you about dumb! I'm embarrassed for you.. (Disclaimer: if you are 7 we forgive you, but now time for bed)...
Oh man i feel sorry for Chris in this one. It's such a hard part he has to sing and you can really tell his throat hurts like hell from it. I love how he skips the last "I'm goin hungry yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaarrrrrhhhhhh" and instead looks desparately back at the drummer like "when are you assholes going into the fuckin' bridge? Get me out of here!!" Nice to see them together still.
I think there sould be a touring fest with Muddhoney, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Temple of the dog since their all ready together, Alice in Chains, Hole, STP, and the Foo Fighters
@wwa4tna It's amazing that the dipshit promoters haven't done this already - it would be a dream come true for millions and 2011 is the perfect time to do it seeing as we have a bit of a 90s rebirth at the moment. The only problem is that Foo Fighters would probably headline that festival- I love FF but when you have the greatness that is AIC and SG there, FF is just another rock band. But fuck it, this should TOTALLY be done...!!!
Eddie Vedder is organising a grunge music festival..that would be the best music festival of all times. I would travel to America just for that one festival.. the idea of all these grunge gods on stage is mind blowing!
@montelimat yea I know... that sucks. But at least their memory will live on through festivals like these. People must not forget the grunge era... they influenced the kind of rock music we have today.
How did they influence the music we have today? Am I missing some secret great musical revolution being held somewhere? The music we have today sounds like nothing even remotely close to the grunge era. I'm not even sure that it is safe to call it music at all.
@bladerunner1b oh you are one of those whiners who keep complaining music today sucks, but it's ony because you are too lazy to switch off from mainstream radio. YOu know damn well there is good music, but you love whining how it sucks now blah blah. whatever.
Your post certainly did not educate me but tell you what. Go back to your 'Underground' musical hole and tell those guys that we need them to come out of hiding. In the meantime, I will continue to 'whine' (weep in fact), over the state of "popular music". Music that actually gets heard on a mass level, makes the talentless rich, shapes our society (if you believe in that sort of thing..."movements"), and makes the world go around. Cheers!
@Meta1Head91 It is hard to imagine Eddie having the stage stolen by anybody... but the 1 guy who can apparently do just that may well be Chris Cornell. They both rock!
No..not really. You are being fooled by the song. Cornell may be doing all the theatrics, but it is Vedder who is holding this song together. Also, let us take a look where these guys are now. Vedder is still being Vedder while Cornell...well let's not talk about that.
@bladerunner1b you are full of shit. If you don't know anything keep that trap shut. Cornell is back with SOUNDGARDEN, and he's doing a solo tour while putting out an album with Soundgarden. You made yourself look stupid. By the way, Chris wrote this song, and he sang half of it, and he has been making music for 2 decades.
I know all about Cornell, and the origin of this song/band. My initial comment still applies to my opinion about this song, but thanks! I couldn't be delighted more than to hear Cornell making interesting music with SOUNDGARDEN again. Not looking for message board pissing match here. I like Cornell!
Must have been wierd for Matt, old boss and new boss giving it some. (I mean "boss" with the highest respect for all present here, bands are generally about the singer and his band).
Eddie's voice has held up better than 99.9% of singers... Not to mention what a pioneer he, and Pearl Jam have been. Soundgarden ain't no slouch either. :)
people complaining about how eddie and cornell can both afford bread now and need to stop singing the song are fucking stupid. do any of you actually know what a goddamn hunger strike is?
Eddie and Chris rock... I love them.. But they are definitely not going hungry..... (ummm, see my previous post of Eddie sightings at my local fancy grocery store)...but hey, I think they believe in this fight for sure... Oh really Chris, you dont mind stealing bread? Really? Let's go then! I will meet you at my condo dumpster, we'll hit like the Pioneer Sq district, then move east to Cap Hill - good eats up there. Due to your fame, I'm sure we'd score fre drinks somewhere, right?
Ok, here I am again... A bitter local neighbor of Eddie, who sings this Hunger Strike shit. Yes, this song rocks and ok, I love it, I know Chris is going to come out. But Eddie, come on man, I see you at Met Market on Admiral. If you don't you neighbors to noice you, come talk to me, i'll hook u up with a better fucking disguise. shit man, Can't you just say, "hey, I am for what I sing about, but I also live high on the hog!". Dude, own it!.
even if you actually do see him shopping what the hell do you expect him to do? Sorry crowd of 15,000 I cant sing this song because Im rich and no longer "going hungry, it just doesn't apply to me anymore" the song was written 20 years ago
@JazzBassDude It's not Temple of the Dog. ToftD was a tribute to Andrew Wood who passed away. The band had one CD before they broke up and went somewhat seperate ways.
@Jibbino95 I know who Temple of the Dog was, thank you. Do you know who was in Temple of the Dog? Probably not. I'll tell you: Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden (who joined Pearl Jam in '98), with guest appearances from Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam). That is exactly who is on stage in this video. Hence, this is Temple of the Dog.
@JazzBassDude I knew all this, but thanks for writing it for me, cause you wrote that it is Pearl Jam and Soundgarden collaborating as Temple of the Dog, but that was then, NOW it's Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell because Temple of the Dog broke up, even though it's the same line up.
@Oi325 well andrew wood was in a band called mother love bone( they're awesome) and andrew wood died cuz of an overdose that is the reason temple of the dog was formed becuz it was a tribute to andrew wood, after that mother love bone recruited eddie vedder and became a band named Pearl Jam that is how the story goes
@scroggdogg28 yeah i know he was in that band heard it was a good band and yeah he was a friend of cornells so cornell and what remained of mother love bone and eddie veder formed temple of the dog yeah
It's funny how, back in the day, Temple of the Dog was a supergroup, but now, the same exact people on the stage are "Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell," because of Matt Cameron being PJ's drummer. I read recently he's been their drummer since 1998, which is longer than all the rest of PJ's drummers combined, but I still think of him as being Soundgarden's drummer sitting in on the kit for PJ. Sorry!
@montelimat I can see it's been a while since you posted so I'm not gonna complain, but by the time you had posted, Soundgarden, with the memberstand as they where when they broke up, had made the reunion, meaning that they should have Matt in the line.
@montelimat No need to get uptight!! This is how the poster labelled the video. If you want to upload this video you can call it "Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell & Matt Cameron" I dont see the why you are getting so anal? Just enjoy!
@coltsuperocean10 Pot, kettle, black, my friend, pot kettle black. I don't feel uptight about this video at all. I know it's hard to interpret people's tone of voice in writing. But, I am genuinely amused and fascinated by the evolution that "grunge" really ended up going through. Mostly because it seems like the fans of the different Seattle bands drew lines between themselves, but the actual band members were all tight.
@coltsuperocean10 (continued from previous comment. what can i say, i guess i'm feeling defensive... or misunderstood. and i must rid myself of this feeling)
I think the title of the video is perfectly appropriate. If the video hadn't had that title, I may not have noticed the thing that I thought was so funny.
It's kind of hard to explain with a character limit. :(
@montelimat It's cool dude. All Grunge Bands, Memebers and even the Fans are connected and there for on another. That's what make Grunge more than Friendly and Free Music. It was also a sort of "Club." We looked and still look out for each other. To make sure the flame never dies. Grunge forever people!

Oi325 1 year ago
@Oi325 well andrew wood was in a band called mother love bone( they're awesome) and andrew wood died cuz of an overdose that is the reason temple of the dog was formed becuz it was a tribute to andrew wood, after that mother love bone recruited eddie vedder and became a band named Pearl Jam that is how the story goes
scroggdogg28 1 year ago 2
@scroggdogg28 yeah i know he was in that band heard it was a good band and yeah he was a friend of cornells so cornell and what remained of mother love bone and eddie veder formed temple of the dog yeah

undoubtedly the 2 best voices of the grunge era. Sadly Zakk Wylde and Dimebag never got to release any collaborations.

Sorry!

@montelimat I still think of it that way as well.

@montelimat I can see it's been a while since you posted so I'm not gonna complain, but by the time you had posted, Soundgarden, with the memberstand as they where when they broke up, had made the reunion, meaning that they should have Matt in the line.
Jibbino95 1 year ago
@montelimat Pearl Jam is now the supergroup

@montelimat No need to get uptight!! This is how the poster labelled the video. If you want to upload this video you can call it "Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell & Matt Cameron" I dont see the why you are getting so anal? Just enjoy!
coltsuperocean10 1 year ago
@coltsuperocean10 Pot, kettle, black, my friend, pot kettle black. I don't feel uptight about this video at all. I know it's hard to interpret people's tone of voice in writing. But, I am genuinely amused and fascinated by the evolution that "grunge" really ended up going through. Mostly because it seems like the fans of the different Seattle bands drew lines between themselves, but the actual band members were all tight.
(err, to be continued in next comment)
montelimat 1 year ago
