  • What is the matter with all of you? This is no dam war it is an occupation. Ask the Nazis how difficult that can be.

  • xyra phillips another yellow journalist

difference is that she is good looxing

  • holy shit this cow won't shut up: Harry Reid hasn't seen Iraq? And, let me guess, Kyra Phillips has?

They gotta stop sending these blonde hicks overseas on our tax dollars

  • Kyra Phillips is the most beautiful redhead in the world

  • Kyra Phillips is a closet Republicans... CNN should fire them

  • Well stated Kyra.

  • Dennis, I don'think you have the authority to declare the war is "Lost". You call it lost because you don't have the stomach to get this done. YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR AMERICANS

  • The war is already lost. Bush lacks the moral character to admit it. Americans are tired of administration lies, they want it to be over.

  • Already lost? Just because you want to lose doesn't mean its lost or we're going to lose. How do you define lost? This should be good.

  • The number of Americans who still support the war in Iraq gets smaller with each passing week. People don't know what it's about or why Bush can't simply order the troops to come home. There's got to be a stronger reason to keep doing this than that it's unpatriotic not to. If you used that as a rationale for continuing bad policies we'd never get anywhere.

Since nobody can come up with a positive reason to continue, withdrawal is really the only alternative.

  • There are plenty of good reasons to continue. Surrender isn't an option; Terrorists can't be allowed to win; Stability in region is a strategic must; Genocide if the US leaves; Emboldens the Enemy when US quites a war; Surrender means the war comes home to neighborhood streets; Iran will take over the region...shall I go on?

  • Oh brother. I see CNN does not hire its reporters and anchors for their ability to see the big picture; or the small one either. It's a good thing she's so damn cute!

  • Conservatives continuing to pull wool over their eyes. Even re-defining the word 'victory'. The war is lost and everyone knows it.

  • Healthy debate. TD's comments right on. Agree...Redrule beats off to Hannity. I suspect he's one of the many neocon propagandists paid from Bremmer's missing 53tons of $100 bills, assigned to "control the message" at You Tube. Pathetic.

Reid wasn't speaking microscopically, he was speaking historically. The mission was dishonest, the justification dishonest, the execution flawed and the results catastrophic. Sounds "lost" to me too.

    Karl Rove

    Washington DC

  • Jimmy thanks for showing the world the typical U.S. Liberal's honed debating skills. Very impressive. lol.

  • Red whacks off to a photo of Pawn Hannity.

  • Red is a Fox News Channel fan/moron

  • Democrats are traitors.

  • Ollie North,Duane R. Clarridge, Clair E. George, Robert C. McFarlane, Elliott Abrams, and Alan G. Fiers Jr. These are Traitors. The Result was;Selling arms to Iran was illegal; arming the Nicaraguan contras was illegal. And more to the point, lying about it all to Congress was illegal.

  • Silence, i take that as you agree more republicans are traitors, nice drive by.

  • YEah she has forgotten about journalistic truth.

  • Kyra Phillips seems to have forgotten what journalistic integrity is. I don't know or care if she is a Republican or not, but she certainly sees like she is pushing her own views. Everything I see from everything else says that she's 180 degrees from clarity of thought or presentation. Does anyone in management from CNN actually watch CNN? I don't think so, and if they do, I'm sure they're not journalists.

  • Redrules4real why dont u ask Bush under oath whats up with Iraq....still waiting

  • ocean, since you're here why don't you tell me instead. Okay, so what's your nutcase theory: oil, crusade, Israel, military industrial complex, all of the above or something newly hatched from the lemming brigade...?

  • so you actually know the truth. you're just ignoring it.

    Thats odd.

  • So your a lemming brigader believing this was a "neocon" "PNAC" ordered plan? That's sad and ignorant because the argument falls apart quickly if you look at all the Democrats who authorized action against Iraq.

  • No real liberal will argue that there are FACTIONS(important word) of the Democratic party controlled and financed by PNAC and AIPAC. We succeeded and getting Chicken-hawk Lieberman out of the Democratic party. Your argument falls apart when you realize there are factions in the Democratic Party and we don't all march lockstep with our "Glorious Leader"

  • Sorry that should start, Real liberals would agree that there are factions in the Democratic" " Mixed up my negitives.

  • it happens when you get excited. isnt careing about your country fun? now what are we gonna do about this Aztlan invasion of undocumented criminal mexicans?

  • Cut and Run in the War against fanatical Jihadists won't work. The Democrats have said they want to "redeploy" the troops out of Iraq and concentrate on fighting terrorism. al Qaeda will be firmly in place in Iraq if we leave. What then? Reinvade under a Democrat President with a favorable media spin job? Dems and the media are so against Bush they've lost sight of all good reason.

  • Bush never had good reason. All lies, manipulation, and patriotic pleas to a morning public. Al-qaeda will be dealt with much quicker once we remove what is uniting the Iraqis and Al-Qaeda. The US Occupation of Iraq.

  • I don't think Al Qaeda is very popular in Iraq except in the Sunni regions. Even with that Sunnis are turning against Al Qaeda because they in turn, turned upon unsupportinp Sunni tribal leaders. Remove the US and you will have a collaspse of the progress made and an all out slaughter of the Iraqis who choose to side with the government.

  • No, remove the occupation. And you remove the unifying element to all the radicals in Iraq. The slaughter will occur if we leave in 2 months or 5 years. It was inevitable since the day we invaded a country which posed no threat to America. Iraqis are very nationalistic, and will see Al Qaeda as an imposing foreign entity, but before they deal with Al-qaeda Most Iraqis see the united states as the most serious imposing foreign entity. The Sunnis will flee to Syria and Saudi Arabia for safety.

  • And then what happens in the aftermath, after they have had thier civil war because we ran? What will the Iraqis, the middle east and the world think of this country then and how will it affect the jihadis? We are in a mess I agree, but we were the country responsible. Two wrongs do not make a right.

  • Procecute Bush and Blair at Nurmberg for Planning and Waging an agressive war. And pay Reperations to the Iraqis killed. The Iraqis want justice, all we have been offering them is continued strife.

  • Speekee Engresh?

  • The war is won..we defeated Sadaam and his army..Now what?..Why are we still there?..to secure the oil..remember thats why we're there..But thats not what she says..or anyone else. There is no other reason to be there..Our children are being sacrificed for OIL. Weeee!?!

  • "Mission Accomplished" signaled victory in the ground war, that's indisputable. What we've had since is called "Reconstruction." Reconstruction is the victor's responsibility to ensure a functioning government is in place for the conquered peoples. The Dems want to run out on this responsibility to make Bush and the GOP look bad. They're also saying "screw you" to the Iraqis, that they have other plans for our money.

  • Kyra Phillips is merely speaking GOP talking points. CNN is just such an incredible propaganda outlet for the Bush administration. But Kyra Phyllips is just a disgrace to journalism.

  • You lying bitch. You get a nice fat check for spreading more lies of "progress in Iraq"? Bush is holding the troops hostage and using their sacrifice as a political tool. IMPEACH NOW!

  • Progress is being made by increasing the Soldiers tours of duty from 12 months to 15 months! i think i just threw up in my mouth.

  • Bush fought the wrong war, and he lost it.

  • The war IS lost. The truth hurts. But the mounting death toll on all sides hurts even worse. And there's no way to extricate us from this mess Bush made without things getting substantially worse. Perhaps now people understand why Saddam ruled his country with an iron fist. It appears he was keeping a lid on centuries old animosity.

  • And how is this war lost? Aside from your political hatred of Bush?

  • And how is this war won? Aside from your political blind obedience of Bush?

  • I don't like Bush, never did and he got us into deep kimchee with his idea to invade Iraq. But he wanted to invade and we bought the responsibility for the Iraqi people. I do not believe pulling out when the insurgents can be slapped down is the answer. I do not want a holocost to be my countries legacy in Iraq and you can be sure 10s of thousands men women and children will be murdered if we leave without a viable government and security.

  • In my intial comment I said, "there's no way to extricate us from this mess Bush made without things getting substantially worse." In that respect we apparently are in agreement. Unfortunately, the holocaust of which you speak has already been unleashed. I'm fully aware that the second we leave, Iraq will be such an incredible humanitarian crisis, it will make Dafur seem like nothing. America is stuck, mired in a war we can't humanely withdraw from, resigned to referee a centuries old conflict.

  • And the solution is the same. The people in the US believe there is no way to win thanks to the MSN and certain politicians. The very large majority of soldiers in the field are digusted with the MSM and the stories they do not tell. Those same soldiers say stay and win, things aren't as bad as you think. The terrorists are being ground down and know thier only hope is the MSM and people like Harry( wave the white flag) Reid. I support the troops.

  • I support the troops as well. I have 2 family members over there. Although I'm not especially supportive of Bush's unwarranted invasion or his handling of this fiasco. --But don't kid yourself about how well things are going. Just today, I saw a serviceman in Iraq say that he is in his generation's version of Vietnam. The terrorists are being ground down by their own suicide bombs, but not to worry, Bush's policies & our continued presence are creating a whole new generation of terrorists.

  • If you want to show a soldier in Iraq who doesn't support the war, a journalist can always find one somewhere and in reporting the story give the impression many others think the same. I have seen journalists do this for many, many years. Its called manufactured reporting. If you read military blogs and watch whats happening in the recruitment and reinlistment of troops you will see a different story.

  • The troops are a divergent group. They're not of one mind. Talk up the side you want to believe all you want (they have their representives), but don't kid yourself that there aren't also large numbers of representatives that feel otherwise.

"Recruitment & reinlistment"?! --Both are going extremely poorly. They have dropped the requirements dramatically, installed a backdoor draft, rely on national guardsmen to meet their numbers, & are spending more money than ever to entice reinlistment.

  • Reenlistment among the soldiers in Iraq is 120%, The NG are not only meeting thier goals but expect to exceed them next quarter. Requirements have been lowered somewhat, but not dramatically. Tell me what a backdoor draft is? Money? I have no problem with money if you want to enlist troops in one of the more dangerous wars in the world that the large majority of our non veteren Congress voted for. I haven't seen any scrap iron drives or veteren gardens poping up lately.

  • Re-enlistment is creeping up because we are now paying for it dearly. A backdoor draft is where your term of service is extended beyond what you signed up for (don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about; you're clearly versed on such subjects). And you're not the only one that has noticed how we aren't having "scrap iron drives" (ie. the president asking for more sacrifice than to go out and shop). We have money because we're now bankrupted to China. A non-veteran WH started this war.

  • cont. Time was, the National Guard protected the homeland. In this war, Bush has forsaken their service to America so that they fight a war on foriegn soil, making up the numbers that our straped military can't meet. And we aren't even talking about the mercenary army of "private contractors" that are off the rolls, off the public's radar screen, and not beholden to the rules of engagement our country once prided itself of.

  • cont. But getting back to the subject at hand (re: Iraq War loss). Gen P has said there is no military victory; it will have to be political. The cornerstone of our being able to leave was: when they stand up, we stand down. Only now it has come out that we are no longer placing a high premium on training the Iraqi army. We & our corporate mercenaries are being forced to continue the heavy lifting ad infinitum. The wall construction which was just halted due to Iraqi opposition.

  • Gen P is right on, and is making progress, I'm sure you also read today that 4 more Sunni arab tribes have joined in the Iraqi salvation union and are now fighting against Al Quieda. When they stand up we stand down, sounds good to me. The premium on the Iraqi training is due to the new budget not being approved. Of which funds are included for increased training. Talk to Pelosi.

  • Pelosi hasn't affected spending one iota(nice spinning; try it after July when the present $ runs out). Gen P IS right, and his interview this past weekend w/The Washington Post reflected pessimism, not optimism. The Iraq War is a civil war between Sunni and Shia. If Bush wants to go after al Q, I hear they're quite set up in Waziristan, between A-stan and P-stan. Perhaps you could show Bush where it is on the map. His war on terror seems to have overlooked it.

  • You are not paying for it "Dearly", I, very familiar with "Stop loss".Thank you.

  • I'm a taxpayer. I'm paying very dearly, thank you very much.

  • Minimum wage?

  • LOL, no argument, don't get me started on taxes and politicians. What has that got to do with the war?

  • God help you and your moronic view. BTW, it's the libtards who've suggested reintroducing the draft, of course, just to add that extra bit of distraction to their full-throttle US surrender and support of the enemy.

  • Leaker, God helps us all. It's namecallers and insulters such as yourself that have destroyed civil discourse in America. Your simplistic thinking, that it's US versus Them, you're either With US or Against US, has turned neighbor against neighbor. Osama bin Laden would be happy at the evil shite you spew.

  • Manufactured reporting...you mean like when Judith Miller printed Cheney and Bush's lies about yellow cake? that kind of manufactured reporting or a different kind?

  • Manufactured reporting is when an editor has a story and needs props to make a point. Someone somewhere will always be found to provide the prop.

  • tens of thousands "will be killed". or "are being killed"

  • Thousands are being killed, the number would increase dratically if free reign is given to the terrorists. Do you honestly believe there would be no difference if we pulled out 150,00 troops and much needed moral and logistical as well as leadership to the Iraqi government?

  • What about America? Is a free Iraq more important then protecting us? And please don't give me that "they'll follow us home" garbage. and if they do... It'll be Bush's fault for causeing this disaster. Pull the troops out and the Iraqis will have to face eachother. Leave them there and we'll be bankrupt, unprotected, and lose what little footing we have left on the worlds stage. The majority of Iraqis want American troops Out.

  • Yeah, they will be embo;dened in a population of 1 billion people and will follow you, because you ran. Tell them its Bushes fault when they find you. Better yet tell them you already surrendered with Harry Reid. Your ideas on thier self innialation are not of my world.

  • Do you know another way to unify the forces of secular Arab nationalists with militant Islam, well i'd like to hear it. Untill you've got that nugget hashed out, this occupation is lost.

  • Of all the arguments I've heard yours holds the most truth. Most people are hoping that Petraeous has the magic amswer. Progress is being made and then the arab leadership shoots itself in the foot every time.

  • Yet another CNN reporter in iraq expressing opinions rather than reporting the "facts"--that's fine with me, I like to hear it.

But where's the rightwing outrage at Phillips for not being "objective," the kind of outrage they expressed toward Michael Ware?

  • And how will these "little areas of progress" take? Reid is just being honest- someone has to be!

  • Being "Honest"? I think not. Being political "without a doubt". In this day of politics for the purpose of politics alone, the only one people believe anymore are the military on the ground who believe that progress is being made. That really dissapoints the media, the politicians, and the left wing, who have long ago given up.

  • I just got back from my county fair, and i shit you not a group of 4 Kentucky National Guard troops were asking for Anti-Iraq war bumper stickers one was in Iraq and was saying how's he's converted a bunch of troops over there to the Democratic side because the Republicans are so damn clueless about whats really going on in Iraq. Our Combat troops are against this war in a solid Majority. Deal with it. They know the facts on the ground.

  • I don't dismiss what you may have seen, but I do question a small group of National guard who were asking for anti Iraq war bumper stickers. It doesn't play right, if you catch my drift. Nor is it in tune with the very large majority of soildiers blogs comming from Iraq and Afganistan. Not to mention the independent journalists that are reporting from both. Your response sounds a little too politically one sided. Tell me more about what you saw and heard.
