both singers,although started around the same time belonged to different eras... the 50s and 60s belonged to rafi while the 70s and 80s belonged to kishore. this song came out the same year that kishore became the top playback singer i.e.. 1969. In the 70s he became the voice of shashi kapoor and virtually everyone top actor of the day

Very beautiful and effective song, both versions. One of the best RDB scores alongwith Teesri Manzil, because other wise his compositions were all to suit kisore's voice/limits.

All this argument about who is better Rafi or Kishore is nonsense! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this applies both visually and aurally. There is no yardstick to measure one singer compared to another...you either like one over the other or visa versa. However one very important fact no-one mentions is that without the magnificient compositions by the music directors -RD Burman here..and the lyricist.....all singers would be impotent!

As a foreigner, i shall never understand this controversy between indian people about who is the best indian singer. For us it's clear, Md Rafi and Lata Mangeshkhar are Bollywood and Bollywood is Md Rafi and Lata M. We have never heard about the others. Nothing else.
