@Ashtree81 Probably it's most glaring issue is that you have 2 AI companions with you through pretty much the entire game, and you lose the game if any of them die, and you can't progress if they aren't all following you through the level ending door. Doesn't sound all that bad until you realize the AI is horrible, the companions keep getting stuck in geometry or get crushed to death by doors. The multiplayer mode is good though, with lots of interesting weapons (with some servers still up)

The first demo for the game was a multiplayer demo. the game mechanics were nearly flawless. they released a updated demo 2 and completely trashed the games feel and mechanics. Damn, the only reasons why Daikatana got hated because it had lousy graphics for 2000 and it had horrible game bugs that made it nearly unplayable.

If someone would review it with the graphics standard of 1998 (the game was in 1998 like it was in 2000) it would get a better rating.

It was simply because of its reputation that people automatically assume it was a terrible, terrible game. It wasn't brilliant, it wasn't even good. It was mediocre. If it hadn't been John Romeros game, it would have been released, and gained mediocre reviews, had mediocre sales, and would have been forgotten about.

It's not terrible, you're right. And the level design WAS really good.

I played the demo of this, and you could play it online. I thought it was freaking sick, I basically had the most fun running around and killing people with the Sword. After you killed a bunch of people, the sword starting glowing and got more powerful. I never played the single player, but the deathmatch with the sword was fun.

Ion Storm in jhon romero was spending millions of dollars in personnel and various bullshit though many engineers are working day and night were never able to publish the game in the graphics engine in the meantime will be surpassed by that of Quake 2 and the modified version used for half life.

Finally, the fact that it was only a mediocre game has not stopped fans (including myself) complaining.
