@jovoification true, but there are still distinct aborigines in Australia, plus they have been under foreign occupation for only a few centuries. All ancient tribes like Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, etc have been conquered so many times it is impossible to say if they really 'survived' the test of time. Only by cultural affiliation can one claim descent from them and even that is stretching it far. I'm Greek, I was born in Greece and I speak greek for example but I'd be mad to claim direct descent

Now since the ancient macedonians had no superior culture of their own and so adopted all greek influences it is impossible to say that something 'pure' macedonian survived. Consider then the slav invasions of the 6th century AD that displaced most of the greek-speakers (language included) and you'll see why I think the macedonians did not survive.
Anicent Macedonians self-identified through Greek culture. Macedonians survived through Greeks when Macedonians became part of the common Greek culture under the Romans. The Slavs when they arrived fought with the Eastern Roman empire (descendents of anicent Macedonians). Modern Greece are not an iota different than Jews that went back to Israel and gave back their original Jewish names to the place. Greeks is defined by culture first and foremost.
This is why FYROM (and its apologists) are actually anti-Macedonians. They are basically racists they define identity by pseudo-scientific racial perceptions rather than culture/language. Those concerned with preserving actually Macedonian culture try to preserve Greek culture not replace it with Bulgarian as FYROM is trying to do.

All Slavic people have R DNA haplogroup, so that group is very litle found in Bosnians and Croatians. By the 15th-19th century old Dalmatian vulgar Latin language was forgotten and they became Slavs.

All ancient tribes like Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, etc have been conquered so many times it is impossible to say if they really 'survived' the test of time. Only by cultural affiliation can one claim descent from them and even that is stretching it far. I'm Greek, I was born in Greece and I speak greek for example but I'd be mad to claim direct descent

Now since the ancient macedonians had no superior culture of their own and so adopted all greek influences it is impossible to say that something 'pure' macedonian survived. Consider then the slav invasions of the 6th century AD that displaced most of the greek-speakers (language included) and you'll see why I think the macedonians did not survive.

Anicent Macedonians self-identified through Greek culture. Macedonians survived through Greeks when Macedonians became part of the common Greek culture under the Romans. The Slavs when they arrived fought with the Eastern Roman empire (descendents of anicent Macedonians). Modern Greece are not an iota different than Jews that went back to Israel and gave back their original Jewish names to the place. Greeks is defined by culture first and foremost.

All I know that Macedonians were hellenised and started talking Greek language. I also know that Irish who speak English are not English. They would hate you to tell them that they are English. Macedonians later on accepted slavic language but in DNA they are the old nation. All Slavic people have R DNA haplogroup, so that group is very litle found in Bosnians and Croatians. By the 15th-19th century old Dalmatian vulgar Latin language was forgotten and they became Slavs.

FYROM are Slavs that mixed with Greeks over the ages (in particular during the byzantine era) However their culture and identity was never "Macedonian". It is an ethnic group invented out of mostly ethnic Bulgarians in the late 19th and early 20th century. (not to mention ancient Macedonians were self-identifying Greeks)
