nice man, im just getting used to the nnxt. can you tell me if there is any way of timestretching a sample i.e - when a sample is just over one bar long etc and you want it to fit in one bar so it can be looped.i hope i explained that right :)
i pretty much haven't even bothered with samples yet, but this was super helpful. i would have kinda figured this out anyway - not rocket science, but it's great to have it served to u on a silver platter :)
jeez man i didnt even know that stuff was able to be done IN reason... Just hwo deep is this program? anyway nice alternative! personally i chop the sounds in Recycle and load the REX file.
Man, thanks 4 the tutorials! I knew this already but ur vids on layering beats really helped me with my production, when I just started. I don't produce dnb but the techniques r all sound. Did u study music or just practice a lot?
@Brandflugan I'm afraid if you want to do that, you need a DAW with audio editing facilities. Reason is based around sampling, and samplers only play a sample from a given point for a certain lenth of time. The can't start in the middle of that time.
You could chop the acapella up into phrases in another piece of software, then put them into the NNXT like I show in this vid, or have a look at Record: as well as running reason within it, you can record and edit audio as well.
loaf the same sample in multiple times then tweak thestart position dial just under the blue screen, if ur using loads of 4 minute full accappella though it will probably slow ur shit down loads so like loki said, better to chop it firts using soundforge, audacity, goldwave etc.
@Brandflugan you can edit the start and end times of a sample, so if you want to do that it would take passive ammounts of reppetition, as seen in the vid.
@Brandflugan Ableton does this really easily. Reason is excellent software but they've really dropped the ball on this one. its actually amazing to me that they allow themselves to have this massive disadvantage over other DAWs. Maybe by version 5 they'll have sorted it. (I thought they would have done it for 4 but no luck).
If you only have reason then use free audio editing softare. Audacity is really god, but yeah - unfortunately for reason you'll have to chop it up.
@Brandflugan I know it really annoys reason users to say this, so i'm not having a go - I use reason too, and its great, but for sampling warping and glitching etc (i.e. all functions that manipulate time) ableton is far far far far superior. I mean, you can do what Loki has shown in this video by just loading the sample, then adding a programme called artillery 2 and you can can glich the fuck out of it on the fly. its great. But agaion, no disrespect to Reason intended.
NN-XT is the best device in Reason. another good use for it is loading Dr.Rex patches, as you can manipulate each zone with hipass cuts or individual send outs. nice upload loki
If you have ReCycle you can chop up the sample into phonemes before sticking them in the sampler, which safes a lot of work finding the starts of words and gives you a cleaner sound
superb!

thx to Loki as always for the tutorials.
but couldn't you do something similar with ReCycle? (although i guess you'd have to know the bpm and bars to really use it properly)

thanks, probably reduces time if you don't have to go back and forth between reason and audacity!

Finaly you put up some tutorials!
Great job!
Could you explain how you add a 4 min acapella to reason in realtime?
I use the NN19 but if I, for an example, want to play from the middle of the vocals it wont start. I have to listen from the beginning.
This is really annoying and the only way I know how to make it easier is to cut it in pieces.
Any other way to do it?
Brandflugan 2 years ago
@Brandflugan its kinda tedious but you can change the start position if you use the nn-xt, just like the video
mafoo17 2 years ago
@brandflugan
u can always use reason as a slave to another program.
