  • Just amazing that this dates from 1964. A classic of Northwest rock, and rock in general.

  • The Sonics brought out the crazy in us kids in the 60's--love U guys!!

  • Sublime had to have ripped off this song on date rape.

  • I just found the perfect tune for an old flame. Cyn -- this one's for you.

  • The Ruts and Stranglers both had reggae influences. As to 'punky' ska- that's just another word for rubbish that is for student liberal middle class wimp kids.

  • She walks around Late at night

(When) Most other people (are) Sleeping tight

If you hear her knockin On your door

    You better say get away...

  • theseguy are jackup ondrugs

  • @theCAcashRefund sorry buddy but sublime aint punk

  • @wweecwcollin Yeah they were....they were a mix of punk and Reggae...The two styles were popularized around the same time (late 70's) and often to the same crowds, strangely enough. If you look into, reggae and punk are closely associated. A lot of the seminal punk guys were into reggae as well, and the two musical styles were often blended. Sublime just did it in a more modern way. Listen to Seed....hard punk to steady reggae blended perfectly in one song. Sublime was heavily punk influenced.

  • @scottelliottmusic the only punk band i can think of that was reggae influnced is the clash! which is a real punk band

  • @wweecwcollin Research punk and reggae.....most of the early punk guys were listening to reggae, whether it made it into their music stylistically or not. DJs who played punk would play reggae too. They were both rebel music forms and appealed to the punk crowd. And what about Bad Brains? Ever heard of them?

  • @scottelliottmusic oh yeah i forgot about the bad bains

  • @scottelliottmusic Reggae influenced punk is generally ska.

  • Rock'n'roll !

  • This is a great music...The Sonics is very good!!!

  • Dedicate this classic to my ex. That bitch is a witch.

  • @manwhassup1 trollface! XD

  • @manwhassup1 HA!

  • @theCAcashRefund Coincidental that The Who were the first band to make a full on spectacle of such angst destroying their instruments after doing My Generation, and the Punk Movement then arose out of London too. Might have some relationship, hmmmm...?

  • @deaddoc good point. the who did a great job bringing punk to the mainstream with their infamous tv appearances. but what dirt poor west coast garage band could afford to destroy their instruments, let alone get 5 minutes on tv? i think we can agree that both brits and americans contributed to protopunk in significant ways, like rock. (despite my name i'm not bias towards so. cal...i'm from mass and the modern lovers are my band.)

  • love them Of cou rse..

  • Punk in 1964 meant that you were some dude's 'bitch' in the big house. These guy's were hard rock pioneer's.

  • @1961slam

This stuff was/is called garage rock. These guys were among the first to play it. It come out of what became known as "frat rock," which was stuff like "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen and "California Sun" by the Rivieras.

  • @GWC1975 Don´t forget "I'M PUSHIN TOO HARD" BY THE SEEDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chuck Berry foreshadowed Punk.

  • They used alot of 'tributes' in their music.

  • Yeah. There were a few of us around Long Beach at the time Sublime was gigging around, and we noticed their 'tribute' to this particular riff in their song "Date Rape".

    :I

  • what s inside the girl....

  • Baddest mutherfuckers youlle ever see in sweater vests

  • The Witch - The Sonics [Tacoma, Washington] - 1965 - "AMG pick. Would become a regional hit, receiving extensive airplay on the powerful Seattle AM station KJR, but the Sonics would never break nationally." - Here Are The Sonics (Norton)-1999.

  • This is for sure the first punkband ever. Thx a million times.

  • @theCAcashRefund It's like a weird 12-bar blues... lol

  • @theCAcashRefund now that you say that.. it does sound like date rape. hah!

  • tHE BEST AMERICAN BAND !

  • this song made my day

  • You cant say there is no eliment of punk rock in that.

  • And the Beatles were just dropping A Hard Days Night at this time, nothing against the Beatles but damn....

  • @fonzifan I will just say it. Track 4 Track, the Sonics PWN the Beatles's Ass!!! Comment on that FuckHeads!!!!

  • 10-15 years ahead of their time. These guys invented Punk rock. I'm hearing everything I've ever heard in any punk rock song in this song right here.

  • No, The Who invented it; nothing against this great band

  • @MrGramparules I see what your saying but the Sonics were around a little bit before the Who and the Who and the Stones were both very similar while this band sounded as close as your gonna get to 70's and on Punk rock music. You could be right though because The Who was a lot more popular band while these guys were not. Would love to see where they got their ideas from and if there's even older stuff similar to this from another band.

  • @fonzifan Fuck The Who and The Stones anyway, because they were just lifting ideas off The Kinks anyway.

  • @Mohammets I think it was a crime that Village Green Preservation Society didn't get recognition for the genius it is until 2 or 3 years after it came out (I think around the time Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround was starting to really break in the U.S.). Fuck the trendy, record-buying public for making Ray Davies doubt himself for even one second.

  • @MrGramparules . Nope. Link Wray, dude.

  • These guys didn't get nearly enough credit for the sound that THEY created.

  • Proto-Punk Barbarians. Bad assss.

  • Lemmy sounds lik ehim on here!!!!

  • hillary clintons theme song.or michelle obama,or barbara boxer,etc,etc.

  • @rw5791 Go suck Mitch O'Connell little flaccid cock, Neocon.

  • @creepycraig73 suck my white ass,bitch.

  • @rw5791 that's the pretty mouth that drove your mom to me. she couldn't stand your fuckwitted nature. good times. good times.

  • these guys started punk

  • @Alphabex8 Yep 5 years before Iggy Pop

  • These guys would be perfect for the soundtrack to the game Fallout.

  • @EmpZappa66 "These guys would be perfect for the soundtrack to the game Fallout."

What are people like you even doing on vids like this ????????????????????????????????

  • @sclapione Why? whats wrong with gamers or any kind of person listening to what they want?

  • @sclapione right the musics not imporant at all, how you stumbled upon the song thats all that matters absolutely. retard.

  • .......cause she's the witch!!!!!!

    AWESOME SONG!!!!

    AAAAAWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

  • truman hooker

  • @kingap1 dumbass fool right here..is that the only way you find your music? lol

dont reply i know the answer. and this applies to all those dumbass skaters that do that.

  • @ItsBIGSMOKEDAWG it doesnt matter how you find the music as long as you enjoy it regardless. it doesnt make the song worse you cunt

  • @kingap1 YES!

  • i believe the correct lyrics for the bridge are:

"Well she walks around, late at night

    most other people, sleepin' tight

if you hear her knockin' on your door

    you better say, "Get away!"

at least that's how we sing it.

the lyrics posted are how they come up on every search result you can find on the web. Obviously all culled from the same source -the one guy who thought he knew the lyrics. STOOPID, they don't even make sense. "among startled people"? "you better sneakin away"? duh.

  • Yeah, I always had a tough time with the bridge myself. I use to sing "amongst all the people sleeping tight" but I thought I heard "you better shake it on babe" at the end which really made no sense.

  • Yeah, i think everyone has sung non-sensical lyrics to songs for whatever reason...cause it's sometimes hard to decipher what the heck is being sung...It's funny Rod, how several people have given my comment a thumbs down...Not that I really care, but all i was pointing out was that the posted lyric interpretation was a little silly. Thanks for the Japanese chick band doing can't tame me link. Really enjoyed hearing their version (more true to the original, dig the fuzz!)...~Dave

  • Muchas gracias por la Lirica.

  • First released in 1964 (B side was Keep A-Knockin'); re-released in 1965 with a new B side Psycho
