  • did they say what I think they did at 1:29-1:33?

  • HALF the number of stops on an already aggressively-voiced organ would have been far more pleasing and the singing would have been even more glorious. KUDOS to the singers for «fighting back» so beautifully!

  • GREAT SINGING spoilt by ridiculously aggressive organ-playing w-a-a-a-a-y too loud, and too fast for the building's acoustic. Lively...YES! Breakneck...NO!!! This prima donna was beating down the singers not even giving them time to breathe between verses. I was BREATHLESS by the time (s)he finally stopped battering everyone's ears.

  • the hymn sounds the most beautiful when it starts to slow down. The verse from 2:10-2:36

  • That Bishop had a great sendoff!

  • Gotta be Westwood United Methodist Church in Los Angeles where we were married 30 years ago! Stunningly beautiful made even more so by the fabulous organ you're hearing....

  • Where is this? What Church? INformation

  • This is ''God of Love and God of Power''. Also number 202 in our book. Used as a recessional.

  • from 1:29-1:33 it really sounds like they sang ''Everyone shall cheer and wave''

  • while tempo is certainly a matter of opinion, this hymn is NOT too fast...most churches play every hymn like a dirge, slow & cumbersome, letting the congregation dictate the tempo!

this organist is doing exactly the right thing, moving the hymn along, esp. since it's not a funeral march, but a hymn of celebration!...the organist should always LEAD, not follow the congregation, otherwise, we'd "crawl" thru every hymn!

  • What hymn is this? I recognize the tune, but for us it's "Open Now thy Gates of Beauty," which is clearly not what they're singing.

  • @speaks3703 I think it's called "God of Love, and God of Power" Hymn 578 in the United Methodist Hymnal

  • hymn is too fast, but that organ is incredible, lovely selection of stops. Beautiful church and choir also. May they ever praise God for His great salvation

  • @kensingtonpalace I disagree. I think that this is a moderately paced performance. This is one of those hymns that becomes difficult to listen to when played too slowly.

  • maybe you're right, it just seems like the organist is playing the next chord while the ppl are still singing the previous word, there's some overlap there where they can't catch their breath.

  • @kensingtonpalace Tempo is always a matter of opinion, so i think we should always preface such observations with, "In my opinion..."

  • @canonscottage: I thot it was obvious that it was my opinion since i was the one typing it. but yea, in my opinion, it's too fast. all the other observations i made were also my opinion.

  • @kensingtonpalace I agree... too fast.

  • Yeah...vielen Dank, für dieses klasse Lied!!
