@zmaybasser46 no that's not true and I will explain why...In a perfect squat, the bar path is not 100% vertical, there is some movement horizontally. The smith machine does not allow for this movement and that's why people look like retards on smith machines

@RustyIronloins Meh, i think its a good tool for isolating those muscle groups and really letting you concentrate, provided you are not a fucking idiot and trying to squat this much with legs that small. I like doing the smith machine once a month for bench/incline/shoulder press/squat just to keep my form in check and try a bit more than i normally would. Of course doing free weight and having to cope with the extra little movements really brings out the best in you.

Power rack is much better and safer. Smith machines will fuck up your joints. You can also get stuck unlike a free weight which you can just throw off.
@Sth3best that is a technique I would use if my gym didn't have a leg extension machine... but we do. I think it is a common thing in every gym I have ever been in. The guy squating had chicken legs, and no business playing with that much weight. he should really just squat like a man. (ps no big guy says big guy)
