  • @zmaybasser46 no that's not true and I will explain why...In a perfect squat, the bar path is not 100% vertical, there is some movement horizontally. The smith machine does not allow for this movement and that's why people look like retards on smith machines

  • you guys obviously dont know shit about compound movements. former mr. olympia dorian yates and jay cutler mainly use the smith for squats, cuz it hits more of the quads and glutes and keeps lower back movement at a minimum. go read about it, than just stating the same old bs theories which originated from a couple of douches anyway. there is no documented proof that smith machines screw up anything or dont help in muscle building, hence they are in every decent gym.

  • @AndyNBR Squatting should not be done on the smith machine. Point blank. When on the smith machine you no longer have to stabilize. It's not realistic. If you want to emphasize your quadriceps you front squat. If you want to emphasize your gluteals you low bar back squat.

  • @RustyIronloins Meh, i think its a good tool for isolating those muscle groups and really letting you concentrate, provided you are not a fucking idiot and trying to squat this much with legs that small. I like doing the smith machine once a month for bench/incline/shoulder press/squat just to keep my form in check and try a bit more than i normally would. Of course doing free weight and having to cope with the extra little movements really brings out the best in you.

    how come jay cutler uses them?¿ Oh, ya... i forgot you prolly know more about this compund exercise then the former Mr. O huh? Nevertheless, free weights utilize more of your stabalizers, while smith is more of a form/safety prevention tool. Read a book.

  • @JStiger1986 You need to read a book mate.Squat in a smith machine is exceptionaly dangerous if you get it wrong.Safety me arse.This machine however is useful for hitting soley the front of your quads and this guy was positioned for that but if you reach failure in the wrong place your fucked without a spotter.All smith machines should be banned from gyms unless proessional training is supplied.

    Power rack is much better and safer. Smith machines will fuck up your joints. You can also get stuck unlike a free weight which you can just throw off.

  • @Sth3best that is a technique I would use if my gym didn't have a leg extension machine... but we do. I think it is a common thing in every gym I have ever been in. The guy squating had chicken legs, and no business playing with that much weight. he should really just squat like a man. (ps no big guy says big guy)
