bumblingblockhead... Listen to the original Kitty Wells hit version? I've been doing just that since it was first released in 1952. I just checked to be sure, and nary a piano note could I detect on it. She did many later versions which included piano after the so called Nashville sound had come to dominate the financial lives of many country singers. With no particular consideration for historical precedent, I believe a fiddle or pedal steel would add poignancy to this fine singers delivery.

Our styles are completely different, I do soft rock & new romantic, but I LOVE the piano line in this song. Matter of fact, there are several country songs which have this very "tappy" type of keys, hard to find elsewhere. It's missing in modern country also. Have to go back before 1990 or so to find much of that sound. I'd love to get together with a country band someday, who do these classics, to add some of this piano in. Lots of fun for me, as it's a style I never get to play with in rock.
