I visit this site just to see this video. I can watch it all day! Thanks to Waikiki613 for putting it up. All your videos are superb.
I love Bud, my favorite pianist, and I'm dying to learn this one.
I play non pedal steel and this cat, while he may not appear to be, is kicking. And on a 6 string! It's all about soul! I was really bummed to hear that he passed on. I would have seriously liked to correspond with him. I hope he's on the big bandstand with trading licks with Bud!
I love the tune, and am glad that someone tried it on a Hawaiian guitar. Are the musicians Japanese? For some strange reason this tune, which Bud Powell only recorded once (December 1958) became a hit in Japan and remains obscure in the United States.
I like this better than most of the videos of Japanese musicians playing this tune, but nothing compares to the original Bud Powell version in G# minor/Ab minor.
I've been off line for several months and this it the fiirst video I wanted to watch! Long live this cat! I hope he's picking with Bud right now!

The guitarist must suffer from an enthusiasm deficit. Cod liver oil??

I wish the guitarist would mellow out, he's showing far too much excitement(yawn). LOL!!!

What's so bizarre about it?
Is it really so outlandishly incongruous that a jazz standard should be performed by (apparently) Hawaiian musicians?
The sound quality is horrible, but I think the performance itself is quite good.
