Fort Erie Racetrack up in Ontario does 2 QH/Tbred Challenges, 1 going 400 yards, the other going 870. The Quarter Horses always do and always will win the 400 yard, and the Thoroughbreds will always win the 870. The only time that wont happen is when you put a Champ tbred sprinter against the cheapest QH, and vice versa.
Tiny little thoroughbred mare, would be interesting to have seen a race with a leggier horse. But true to form, the quarter horse gets up to speed much fast.
Who are we kidding? The Quarter Horse proved it was named accurately, it dominated the first 1/4 mile, after that the Thoroughbred took over. Completely obvious turnout.
Ive seen thoroughbreds DOMINATE over quarter horses even in the quarter mile. They are both extreme athlete but the thoroughrbed is and always will be the fastest, you cant change that,
The QH did good job but u carnt really put them 2gether TBs r supreme athletes bred for speed over distance and the QH bred for quarter mile sprints but it was cool to watch
@ShelbyLovesPepper ? i didnt mean any offence... sorry if i did and i was saying the thoroughbred is more race horse type. i never said anything bad about the QH my aunt owns a thoroughbred farm and she also helps take care of a QH farm. i find both horse types amazing, i do show jumping with my QH samson and my grandpa is raceing a stallion majestic magic...
Yes the QH would have beat the TB if it was a quarter of a mile... and the TB would have beat the QH at a mile. They said it was a compromise, a middle distance race. There is no such thing as a completely fair race if your going to take age, post position, start records, and breeding into consideration anyways. They are both great breeds. You are naive if you think one is scientifically better. They are bred for different purposes. It's a personal opinion to which you like more.
QH's have beaten TB's at 870 a lot.. I've seen it. This was an unfair race anyways. The TB filly had just set the 4 furlong track record in the previous start before this one.. while the QH filly had run a 4th in her previous start. If they would have given that TB filly a QH of her class level (aka a 870 track record setting one) the QH would have taken the race. Outside post position and all :)
if they raced straight ina field, the quarter horse would win!! i hate tb racing though, after the tbs are done with racing, they r just messed up:P thts what happened with my tb he was whipped with hoses after every race so he was scared to death of the hose when we had to fill his water up:(
Despite tiring on the last stretch that quarter horse acutally dominated that thoroughbred. That quarter horse held almost the same exact speed the whole mile. She ran her fastest up until that last stretch and the thoroughbred pulled up not even winning by a stride. Quarter Horses are americas best athletes.
THERE IS NO BEATING A QUARTER HORSE OVER A QUARTER MILE. WTF does this match race prove exactly...??? The Quarter Horse CRUSHED The Thoroughbred over the quarter mile.....then the stamina-bred Thoroughbred caught up and won because it was over a quarter mile race....SHOCKER......
i love both QH and TB racing, and i know that it all depends on the distance of which they race. because this was a half mile instead of a quarter, the TB won. if it had been a quarter mile, the QH would've won. That's just how the breeds work, no bias to it!
I'm tired of all that shit about "The QH would smoke them at a Quarter Mile" Croc. Yeah they would, but then the Thoroughbred destroys them at a longer distance.
Quarter horses are faster over short distances because they have shorter legs and a stockier build so they can get their legs under them quick to reach top speed almost immediately. They are the fastest horse in the quarter mile, hence their name. It is harder for thoroughbreds to start quick because of their lengthy legs and sleek build, but once they reach their speed, they can pull off a much bigger and faster stride than a QH. And they have the Arab endurance in their breed to their advanta
@iFlip2012 the thoroughbred still won't reach the top speed of the quarter horse. the arab breeding is also in the quarter horse, they just went in a diferent direction in their selection of breeding.
why do you all think thoroughbred racing is more popular? cuz they are FASTER. thoroughbreds build up speed and can hold that speed and build up speed for LONG distances, Quarter horses blow it all in the beginning so they can't hold out for as long. so DUH a thoroughbred is the faster one!!!!! get over it.
yeah, thats pretty much a cheat kinda, you could just SEE how that QH started to wear out on that last stretch home, In the quarter mile, QH's are like... already at the finish! but if its longer, the TB would LATER ON, catch up.
The quarter horse is called that because it's faster in the first quarter mile. It was built to be able to speed off the instant it starts moving, but it doesn't have the stamina that a thoroughbred has. Though it takes time for a TB to built speed, they can hold that speed for longer. QH is able to speed away, but not for long.
it was really close, i think if the QH had the inside post she would have won, and because the track was sloppy the TB would have had the better footing on the inside
aww, that was so close! the Qh coulda had it if the jockey held her back a little more in the beginning. I say, REMATCH!! xD but it was still awesome! ^.^
Interesting thing is that the TB came off the blocks ahead of the QH.

I think that if a quarter horse can get proper training for a long enough time, i think that they could beat a thorough bred. Thumbs up if you agree.
