It really is your loss in not wanting to believe. I'm fed up with athiests who constantly want answers - and when people give you answers you reject them and stick to your own stuck up thoughts. I prayed and prayed for god to give me answers to my questions, to help me stop being depressed. It'd help for 5 minutes and then it'd get worse. By the way, I can only suggest, but don't hold on to atheism too much since it can turn into an ideology in much the same way religions do. The idea is to seek a balance between faith and reason. If we are seeking self realization it behooves us in keeping a creative open mind especially to that which is outside our experience and that which our educational system is unable to address..

God is not the problem but our interpretation of God that gets us into trouble and confuses us in the very ways you just described. I too have a brother who is gay and I love him no matter what. No interpretation of god will change it. I dont think people need a god, but they choose to have a god... having someone to belive in helps some people...but there is also just beliving in yourself. @mozzrt Right! Our arrogance to think we know who needs to change is what keeps us from the peace of God. No one needs to change but ourselves when we are angry. That is so hard to swallow because we feel so damned justified in our anger. But Jesus demands we be willing to be wrong so peace can come to us. When we are angry, we are the one's who need to change. That takes serious humbleness. I often forget and then have to say "Ok Jesus! I'm willing to be the one who is wrong." THEN peace comes.

You are right, the idea that "reality exists outside the mind" is an idea in my mind, but a tree is outside my mind. The sights and sounds are not real, but they are produced from real stimuli. The world we see is a collective dream where our beliefs are shared and create the world we see. Jesus walked on water because he was aware the world is but a dream and He used the knowledge of God to override the beliefs in physical laws.

I love God!!!!! Yet, I have no belief in Christianity's insane perception of God. The angry God concept is the most ridiculous concept man has invented. Only the weak are susceptible to anger. There is NO weakness in God. Anger is a sign of weakness as Love is a sign of strength. Strong is God for He loves you eternally and infinitly. He begs you to leave this hellish world and come home to Him.

One of the telltale signs of non-believers is that they're all liars. Take for instance, the title of your message, "I Wish I Could Believe." You're a liar. I listened to your message. If you WANTED to believe, you wouldn't be spending such an inordinate amount of time impugning God's integrity, wisdom, love and grace. You would instead have kept your mouth shut, put your face in the BOOK (where the answers are), humbled yourself and sought His face. His Word promises that He answers such folks.
Why? Because He makes the rules NOT YOU. And that pisses you off. You said so clearly. So, in your arrogance, you defy God instead of humbling yourself (those are the ones to whom He gives grace) and are left to pay the consequences of your own sins, which, I noticed, you didn't mention. I have answers to all your questions, but what I'll tell you is that I did it the opposite way. I had the questions and rejections of God FIRST and no Christians could answer them. Then Jesus appeared to me and told me that His death, burial and resurrection were for me because He loved me and wanted me. Wow. Broke my heart. I then, with faith and respect asked Him about all those questions and He began showing me the answers. You are proud and arrogant. He won't tell you.

I recognized as a young believer that the best church services were always on a midweek service in the middle of Thunderstorms. Of course I knew why. Ok, I see tons of comments on here about how Jesus sacrificed himself. JESUS SACRIFICED NOTHING. According to the bible "god gave his only begotten son". Sure he did. FOR THREE DAYS. Jesus didn't pay "the ultimate sacrifice" for our sins. He suffered for a few days; a suffering not even comparable to that of AIDS and cancer victims. Jesus didn't give his life, with some ultimate sacrifice, he gave his life for 3 days knowing prior to this "sacrifice" that he would come to life.
He does not ask for you to change who you are. He changes you anyways. If you really love Jesus and the sacrifice he made on the cross for you in order that we could all be reconciled to a holy and just God, then you would not be so angry and blaming him on your problems. He did not cause problems on this planet. He just got tired of comign down here to spank us all the time and figured out a way for someone to take our punishment forever. That is what I call love. I was disturbed by what "Christians" have done to Jesus' message. Later, God revealed His grace. He's incredible. You said you trust in your own individuality. Only in Christ are you truly yourself. Apart from Him, we just ramble about what we "see" from Satan's perspective. I surmise you've not met the real Jesus, yet.
We are here for you. We are the same species, we have to look out for one another regardless of what they believe, but rather who they are and what they do. Acts are more important than myths.
I am an atheist too, recent development as well, just a few months, but I am deep rooted in it now that I see that what I have been forced to think is myth. Now I think freely, but realize that if I am to prosper and survive, my fellow human beings come first, not the needs of a man made faith.

I completely agree. It's nice to see someone who sees the world the way I do. I really hate being called stupid and evil because I'm an atheist, and I just don't like the whole fact that every christian bases their lives on this supposed god that they have no proof of. Hey I feel like I've gotta comment here. I'm in search of Jesus and I need conversation from more than just other Christians. For me though Jesus not existing isn't enough, I'm in pursuit for a saviour, not to disprove one. What you say intrigues me and while it isn't particularly original I am curious as to how one can't just find confidence with ourselves with no greater purpose beyond this life, no eternal meaning... for me its not enough just to settle for this being it.
It is also important to note that we are made in His image- we are all free moral agents. We do have the right to make choices & our choices affect not only ourselves but others as well. If God did not allow us to make our own choices then He could not possibly be righteous. All will certainly experience both desireable & undesireable outcomes in life but remember that the sun shines & the rain falls on both the righteous & unrighteous! God is very real :-)
What is worse- the one who does not believe in God because of reasons #1,2,&3. -or- the one who beleives and trusts in a false idea of who God is? That is one that hangs lots of folks up. There are the "Young Earth" & "Old Earth" groups. I'm in the latter. I believe that God exists outside of time as we know it. His 6 days (rested on the 7th) were not days as we know them. I believe His moments could be as a thousands or millions of years to us. But you'd considered that I'm sure.
Most people think religion is a pure con job. However I tried for about five years to believe in Athiesm and realized that I actually was Agnostipated.
If God does not exist, our believing does not matter. If God does exist, our believing would not change that.

I don't see my brother's asthma being healed to where he hasn't used an inhaler in over 2 years after we prayed a coincident or my dads back no longer having pain in it when doctors said he would live with it for the rest of his life, we prayed and solved that issue too. I don't have the answer why God doesn't do this for everybody in 3rd world countries except when I went to Africa and saw God do great miracles, I hope you find the answer you're looking for.
Your objection to God letting kids be born in 3rd world countries is self-contradictory. Its assumes that there is right and wrong, which assumes that there is a Higher Standard that sets the standard of right and wrong--i.e., that there is a God. Your appeal to right and wrong assumes the existence of God.
I don't think so. That's your assumption and your belief. Right and wrong doesn't come from a higher standard. Right and wrong comes from morals, ethics, and the integrity of human beings. These are developed with experience and instances. Morals, ethics, and integrity are easily misguided. Especially through the teachings of the bible. I don't believe in damnation and I believe that if a higher power believes in damnation, then they are a poor representation of a perfect being.
Incidentally, there is a book that documents a number of cases of speaking in tongues that were identified as specific languages, many of them from AOG missions work. IMO, it seems to me that you have a problem with subjecting yourself to God. If God wants your brother to be transformed, doesn't He have a right to do so?
Come to think of it, a lot of this stuff wasn't in the old line Pentecostal churches, though. It was in some of the newer neo-Charismatic, third wave type groups in my early 20's. I guess its just strange to me that some people who grow up in Pentecostal churches haven't seen anything in the way of the supernatural besides tongues, which is hard to verify, and frankly easy to fake, either intentionally, or just form being worked up emotionally.
But its kind of strange to me in a way to hear of people who grew up around spiritual gifts who haven't had any experiences with things besides tongues. I grew up in Pentecostal churches, including the AOG, too. But I can think of times where God really specifically answered prayers. I can think of many, many examples of extremely specific prophecies and words of knowledge, things people couldn't know naturally. I've even gotten words of knowledge like this. I've seen a few healings, too.
I saw a video of yours on speaking tongues. In recalling your childhood and in this video, it seems like you base a lot of your beliefs on feelings, wants or needs. In this video you do not _wish_ to believe in a God. God's existence is not dependent on your belief. You talk about confirmations, and I suppose some people sound kind of flaky when they talk about confirmation. Then, again, some of them may just be more perceptive in ways others aren't.

I prayed and prayed for god to give me answers to my questions, to help me stop being depressed. It'd help for 5 minutes and then it'd get worse. By the way, I can only suggest, but don't hold on to atheism too much since it can turn into an ideology in much the same way religions do. The idea is to seek a balance between faith and reason. If we are seeking self realization it behooves us in keeping a creative open mind especially to that which is outside our experience and that which our educational system is unable to address..

I was very moved by this I dont know your brother, and i wish i could meet him as well. You made a very good point, i myself am aithiest for a couple reason. I dont think people need a god, but they choose to have a god... having someone to belive in helps some people...but there is also just beliving in yourself. Prayers are goals you wish to acheive and things you want... you need to try anf go after them sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. WHat you said was true all of it. Great job!

That is so hard to swallow because we feel so damned justified in our anger. But Jesus demands we be willing to be wrong so peace can come to us. When we are angry, we are the one's who need to change. That takes serious humbleness. I often forget and then have to say "Ok Jesus! I'm willing to be the one who is wrong." THEN peace comes.

You are right, the idea that "reality exists outside the mind" is an idea in my mind, but a tree is outside my mind. The sights and sounds are not real, but they are produced from real stimuli. If god is an idea, then to be real, he has to actually correspond to a concept from outside my mind (like a tree..) or he's just like the invisible unicorn

The world we see is a collective dream where our beliefs are shared and create the world we see. Jesus walked on water because he was aware the world is but a dream and He used the knowledge of God to override the beliefs in physical laws.

Math is definite. It is essentially perfect, in the sense, it can go on forever, and always has an answer, no matter what.
Religion, is not perfect. It's not indefinite. It only exist as long as it is believed. It can't, and more than likely will not go on forever. And when ever a problem occurs, an answer does not appear, instead gaps are filled with "I must have faith".

Clinging to the body and claiming that it gives you life is the source of all your pain. In all sin, guilt, pain and death is the body the central figure, for without it, all those things are impossible.
Jesus said clearly, "It is the Spirit that gives Life, the body is of no avail."
Meditate on Jesus' words here. Can you understand what He was conveying?

If you WANTED to believe, you wouldn't be spending such an inordinate amount of time impugning God's integrity, wisdom, love and grace. I recognized as a young believer that the best church services were always on a midweek service in the middle of Thunderstorms. Of course I knew why. The pretenders focused on coming Sunday mornings so they could pat themselves on the back for being "good Christians" and had no intention to get out in inclement weather when they'd already "paid their dues."

Ok, I see tons of comments on here about how Jesus sacrificed himself. JESUS SACRIFICED NOTHING. According to the bible "god gave his only begotten son". Sure he did. FOR THREE DAYS. Jesus didn't pay "the ultimate sacrifice" for our sins. He suffered for a few days; a suffering not even comparable to that of AIDS and cancer victims. Jesus didn't give his life, with some ultimate sacrifice, he gave his life for 3 days knowing prior to this "sacrifice" that he would come to life.

He does not ask for you to change who you are. He changes you anyways. If you really love Jesus and the sacrifice he made on the cross for you in order that we could all be reconciled to a holy and just God, then you would not be so angry and blaming him on your problems. He did not cause problems on this planet. He just got tired of comign down here to spank us all the time and figured out a way for someone to take our punishment forever. That is what I call love. Thinkmorepink- For a while, I believed I was not a Christian--not that God didn't exist, but that I fell out of His hands. I spent a lot of time reading sincere atheists. I was disturbed by what "Christians" have done to Jesus' message. Later, God revealed His grace. He's incredible. You said you trust in your own individuality. Only in Christ are you truly yourself. Apart from Him, we just ramble about what we "see" from Satan's perspective. I surmise you've not met the real Jesus, yet.

We are here for you. We are the same species, we have to look out for one another regardless of what they believe, but rather who they are and what they do. Acts are more important than myths.
I am an atheist too, recent development as well, just a few months, but I am deep rooted in it now that I see that what I have been forced to think is myth. Now I think freely, but realize that if I am to prosper and survive, my fellow human beings come first, not the needs of a man made faith.

the reason you secretly wish you could belive in a God is god himself pushing on your heart. You have to sacrifice yourself because thats what Jesus did for you to live, you must give your life to him as he did for you. Its only fair. Christians are well educated also, faith works with reason not against it...ill be praying for you.

I completely agree. It's nice to see someone who sees the world the way I do. I really hate being called stupid and evil because I'm an atheist, and I just don't like the whole fact that every christian bases their lives on this supposed god that they have no proof of. It's the easy way out of a bad situation. Saying "God has a plan for you" is just a way to bring up their confidence without having to worry about anything.

Hey I feel like I've gotta comment here. I'm in search of Jesus and I need conversation from more than just other Christians. For me though Jesus not existing isn't enough, I'm in pursuit for a saviour, not to disprove one. What you say intrigues me and while it isn't particularly original I am curious as to how one can't just find confidence with ourselves with no greater purpose beyond this life, no eternal meaning... for me its not enough just to settle for this being it.

It is also important to note that we are made in His image- we are all free moral agents. We do have the right to make choices & our choices affect not only ourselves but others as well. If God did not allow us to make our own choices then He could not possibly be righteous. All will certainly experience both desireable & undesireable outcomes in life but remember that the sun shines & the rain falls on both the righteous & unrighteous! God is very real :-)

What is worse- the one who does not believe in God because of reasons #1,2,&3. -or- the one who beleives and trusts in a false idea of who God is? I say the later, because they are decieved while the former has a reason, so they think. If this person is seeking honest truth then they are more likley to find it then the one who is determined to believe something they cannot understand or explain. God wants us to search! Saul thought he knew the real God & later realized his errors.

So unfortunate that so many are mis-led to believe that Christianity is something that it is not. I do believe the Bible is the word of God & only after studying, proving & seeking truth. Too often we trust in what others teach us concerning God & His word then we realize the picture that was painted was false & we lose all hope in what we thought was true because it was not. But this does not make God go away.

God has already made the path you are to walk.
When you pray and get a "no:" or "wait" answer: that is because you prayed the wrong thing and not what God has planned for your life.
Your path is predestined.
So if you die not believing that is because you were predestined for destruction and eternity in Hell.

That is one that hangs lots of folks up. There are the "Young Earth" & "Old Earth" groups. I'm in the latter. I believe that God exists outside of time as we know it. His 6 days (rested on the 7th) were not days as we know them. I believe His moments could be as a thousands or millions of years to us. But you'd considered that I'm sure.

Most people think religion is a pure con job. However I tried for about five years to believe in Athiesm and realized that I actually was Agnostipated.
If God does not exist, our believing does not matter. If God does exist, our believing would not change that.
We expect God to be "fair" and get mad when life is not fair. Maybe God gave us the chance to observe a fundamentally meaningless universe and created us with the ability to change our little corner.

Please do not take to heart the negative comments you have received for when one's mind is narrow, it can only get narrower. As an atheist, I have pondered similar questions, and have decided that I would rather die being true to myself, than to pretend to be someone I am not. Same goes for my sexuality.

I don't see my brother's asthma being healed to where he hasn't used an inhaler in over 2 years after we prayed a coincident or my dads back no longer having pain in it when doctors said he would live with it for the rest of his life, we prayed and solved that issue too. I don't have the answer why God doesn't do this for everybody in 3rd world countries except when I went to Africa and saw God do great miracles, I hope you find the answer you're looking for.

Your objection to God letting kids be born in 3rd world countries is self-contradictory. Its assumes that there is right and wrong, which assumes that there is a Higher Standard that sets the standard of right and wrong--i.e., that there is a God. Your appeal to right and wrong assumes the existence of God.

I don't think so. That's your assumption and your belief. Right and wrong doesn't come from a higher standard. Right and wrong comes from morals, ethics, and the integrity of human beings. These are developed with experience and instances. Morals, ethics, and integrity are easily misguided. Especially through the teachings of the bible. I don't believe in damnation and I believe that if a higher power believes in damnation, then they are a poor representation of a perfect being.

Incidentally, there is a book that documents a number of cases of speaking in tongues that were identified as specific languages, many of them from AOG missions work. IMO, it seems to me that you have a problem with subjecting yourself to God. If God wants your brother to be transformed, doesn't He have a right to do so?

Come to think of it, a lot of this stuff wasn't in the old line Pentecostal churches, though. It was in some of the newer neo-Charismatic, third wave type groups in my early 20's. I guess its just strange to me that some people who grow up in Pentecostal churches haven't seen anything in the way of the supernatural besides tongues, which is hard to verify, and frankly easy to fake, either intentionally, or just form being worked up emotionally.

But its kind of strange to me in a way to hear of people who grew up around spiritual gifts who haven't had any experiences with things besides tongues. I grew up in Pentecostal churches, including the AOG, too. But I can think of times where God really specifically answered prayers. I can think of many, many examples of extremely specific prophecies and words of knowledge, things people couldn't know naturally. I've even gotten words of knowledge like this. I've seen a few healings, too.

I saw a video of yours on speaking tongues. In recalling your childhood and in this video, it seems like you base a lot of your beliefs on feelings, wants or needs. In this video you do not _wish_ to believe in a God. God's existence is not dependent on your belief. You talk about confirmations, and I suppose some people sound kind of flaky when they talk about confirmation. Then, again, some of them may just be more perceptive in ways others aren't.
