I have an old HP bisiness desktop running Windows 7 64. I just recently upgraded my CPU from a single-core AMD Athlon 64 3200+ to a dual-core 4400+ on Socket 939, the highest my MB supports. I ordered it on eBay for a great deal and was delivered surprisingly fast. I immediately installed it and the boot-up took half the time! My WEI went from 3.9 to 4.9 and RAM went from 4.5 to 4.9, running 2GB! Great improvement! That was only my first step; next more RAM and a new graphics card.
@ragfaggalaxy lol Those dual-core 939's are like gold-dust. I gave up looking due to the absurd prices.
You shouldn't have much problem overlocking the actual CPU. The x2 3800+ (2.0GHz) is practically the same part as the x2 4200+ (2.2GHz). It should be able to both match and exceed the x2 4200+ stock speed.
If your M/B lacks decent O/C features you may still be able to use Windows-based software, such as 'Clockgen' and 'CrystalCPUID'. All depends on your M/B in particular its chipset.
I know the grapchis card is shit but it ran some good games like Left 4 Dead 2,Street fighter 4 and CODMW2 i forgot i even posted those specs over the year thx

did you upgrade your CPU to dual core? If so, please tell me where you bought it, I can't find anywhere on the internet where I can buy an AMD Athlon dual core upgrade for 939 socket for under $150
On that PC, I did upgrade the processor, I got it from Newegg, back in early 2006. On eBay, there are occasionally dual cores for Socket 939 going for under $100
My computer has an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ too, and I just upgraded from 2GB PC2-4200 to 4GB PC2-5300. I'm running XP SP3. I got a free Vista upgrade, but I've never used it. What kind of index rating do you get with this processor? Is it time to go to Vista yet? My PC works fine with XP and I'm hesitant to change it. (Graphics card is a 1GB 9800GT.)
Your processor should get a 4.9 on Windows Vista. Considering you have 4GB of RAM and a 9800GT, Id upgrade to Vista x64, so then you could take use of all of the hardware.

Always liked these old 939 processors, they even overclock to an extent, got 4200+ 939 to 2.6 ghz rather easily. WEI went up to 5.6 :D

@YeeMafia The 4200+ is better than the 3800+, but both are very old now however :)

Pretty fast.. Fast as my 5000+ 940socket 2gb DDR2 Windows MCE 32bit boot.. But that's vista.. I just got pwned?

Indeed, its a good thing they did in a way, as DDR RAM is so expensive.
