  • I'm a biker, but to be honest the car is gonna win because four tires is better than two. The bike has the straight line but the car has the braking and cornering. Well I guess it depends on wich track they race on.

  • The Desmo is a production machine! Advanced Motorsports in Dallas, TX is one of the leading distributors, the Ducati Desmosedici RR retails for around $72.5k. Walk into the shop, plop down the necessary wampum, and ride away on this incredible bike. Two were at the trackday at Motorsports Ranch last week. Saw one ridden by an idiot in sandals and a shorts leave the bars on McKinney in Dallas in the Fall. It certainly IS a production machine.

    And maybe I didn't phrase it right.

    Here in Greece, by production bike we mean a bike that is street-legal (lights, turn-signals etc.).

    The dealers don't even sell you a non-legal bike (track-bike) if you are not a certified racer and/or collector how doesn't ride his bikes.

  • For what it's worth, I watched a modded Fireblade race against a 750bhp modded Scooby at Knockhill. The car was spanked on the straights but the bike lost out on the corners. Drag - won by bike. Lap - won by car. It was incredibly close though. On a time trial where they both had a totally free track? Who knows.

  • the car would probably win, but would be close....but i mean a bike is sooooo much more intimate, a lot more skill to ride fast too. And tbh whats an f430? 200k? whereas a desmo is 40k? and the f430 is defo not 4.5 times better? plus bikes are sexier anyway

    Ducati: 210 hp x 170 kg

    Ferrari: 490 hp x 1400 kg

  • Haha, yes :). I think the Atom is amazing and I love TopGear (for most of the time anyway), but putting it up against a 600 with a rider that rode like they did was obviously just meant as a showcase for the car, not a true race. Can't wait to see this one ;-).

  • ps. Ducati Of Seattle dynod a Desmo at 165 hp at the wheel. It may be on youtube. Everyone is optimistic when it comes to dyno numbers,

    CAR Way better braking and handling.

    Im a bike lover and i wish it wasent that way.

  • I think motortrend did this with a GXSR1000 and a ZO6 vette at willow springs in CA. Cant remember the mag but the bike killed it. The 1000 was like 53mph faster in some of the sweepers. in the 90's cars were faster then bikes in the corners but with the trickle down from Moto Gp is so fast, like 4 years cars cannot keep up on a race track. In saying this Get a it only takes money to make a super care an Uber car and then the important times are real close. IMO

  • That Desmosedici is a nice bike, but overrated. I'd rather he was riding a 1198R if he must have been a Ducati.

  • there is no bike like 1198R. there is only 1098R. I think it's not desmosedici RR cause there is no lights !!! BTW desmosedici has 200 HP or 230 if you have racing license. And it is better in performance than 1098R.

    But, how i said, it's not desmosedici RR but racing desmo GP9 ( exaust out of tail and no lights)

  • Uhm, the new version of the 1098 is the 1198... They increased it because of SBK rules which now allow 2 cylinder engines to have up to 1200cc.

  • yeah right . I know that. BUT it is still named 1098R . 1098R had 1200 ccm engine right from the beginning.

  • Well if we're talking about the R model then you're absolutely right. But the standard and S model were 1098cc and now increased to 1198.

  • Like others have said, 4 wheels/tires = better braking... How much good is all that speed the bike makes if the rider can't slow it down. better than the car that has carbon brakes... I believe formula1 cars run faster lap times... Jussayin'

  • braking is important yes...but where the 4 wheels REALLY wins is in the corners...bike has to slow down twice as much as a car does in a corner...

  • Yeah it's mostly the corners. cos although the car can brake better it has to brake earlier because it weighs much more

  • I'm not sure that a bike have to slow down twice, maybe YOU do, but I never see a car go faster on normal asphalt.

  • its just physics dude...only reason bikes can keep up at all with a car on a turn is cause the can use more of the lane...top gear has done a few vids on this very thing long time ago...and nobodies talking about normal asphalt are we?? nope, we are talking about the track man...bike wins straight line, car wins twisties

  • Top gear is clearly from the car side. On superbike magazine (italian edition) I read taht the only category of cars that can fight with bikes are the racing prototype

  • It mainly depends from wich circuit you are picking to run the test, choose something with lots of tight or mid range turns and you don't even need a Desmo to win...

  • Tights means hard on the brakes and quick direction changes. Not even the desmo could out brake a F-430. I'm a bike man but cars like that are faster on technical tracks. Open straights and mid range turns means a bike victory. Tight turns hand it to the car.

  • completely the opposite is true. The bike prefers a big open circuit
