Pretty sure that guy is still there too! Unfortunately, Telluride got taken over my corporate America and lost "the funkiness" portrayed in this classic ski film.
Totally agree, I skied most of my life (45 years now) with ski technology way before shaped skis. My preference......203 for steep, powder and moguls; 207 for perfect groomed. Skied 73 mph at 45 years old. Now in my 50 somethings I am thankful for the shaped skis. My mind can still do it but the old bod is starting to break.
Love the old school! Every time I'm on a long flat cat-track, I quietly wish the old skinny skis were underfoot. (My knee's agree, saying "so much easier to cruise straight with no effort at all"). But, other than that, today's skis are soooooooo amazing on every other kind of terrain!
p.s. Doesn't this bring back memories of the days when there was no attitude?
@TRaddcliff It's funny, I ski on a pair of Rossignol S4's at the moment, only they're a modern 2010 season twin tip pair. I didn't realise S4 models dated back that far :O Still, I'm only 17.
On a more general note since my Dad first showed me this video when I was probably about 3 or 4 it's always been my favourite ski movie, although there are many awesome ones around today commissioned by Red Bull, DC, Burton etc. nothing will compare to the pure cool and nostalgia of this.
but none capture that feeling of the fun they had. now its just about insane shit. i always felt stumps films took people to spots they could take them shelves. not everyone is chucking 1440s off 80 foot cliffs these days. only the nutters that are getting paid to.
the new flick just dont have the ski bum vibe. its all business.
STUMP YOUR MOVIES WERE/ARE THE BEST.
oh they have the K2 extemes again...in the new format. WANT THEM.
@TRaddcliff You've pretty much summed it up, it's cool that the modern skiers and boarders are pushing the boundaries, but seeing people dropping out of heli's in totally remote spots in todays videos gets tiring and your average skier like me can't connect with it or think 'im gonna try that tomorrow'. Plus, something Plake explained in an interview thats on YouTube somewhere, you don't see the human side of it or 'ski bum' attitude anymore, no interviews with the pros and no personality.
The monoski cliff drop at the end raised my stoke meter to UBER.
