  • HOLD YOUR HAND STILLLLLLLLL! X(

  • u broke it

  • Thanks for posting this video. This happened to me, I couldn't get my device to turn on at all though. I tried plugging it in and that didn't help, the screen just wouldn't turn on at all. It was acting as if it was entirely dead. I finally tried the 10 second power button down thing like you suggested in the video since 3-5 seconds wasn't working and it finally turned itself on. I should note that I had the power plugged in at this time also. So thank you, I thought it was broken, but its not

  • I think it is a few of these that do that had mine for six months now and have never had this or any issue with mine. works like a dream.

  • It's a shame, I've seen a lot of defective Galaxy 10.1 videos, it's starting to look like a common thing. I must be very lucky as my one hasn't ever had any problems with it. It can randomly force close the browser sometimes, but it's rarer these days since it upgraded, and it's only Flash-heavy sites that tend to do it.

Not that I'm a fanboy or anything, but even now I'd have still have chosen it over the iPad 2 (although it was a very close decision!)

  • Defective device. Some of it could be bugs that have to do with the OS. Mine has no problems with any of this. If this happens with all the ones you replaced, then I would definitely say that a lot of it has to do with the operating system

  • How could you dislike THIS VIDEO?! WHO WOULD DISLIKEL???????!!!!!!!!!

  • This would nevar happen' on an iPad!

because iPad works for you.... But you Have to work for the android... Hope understod :)

  • @RulZGame iPad is just a giant iPod. no changes whatsoever in the operating system. Nothing against the device itself (other than the price and the fact that it doesn't support Flash player), but rather, the OS

  • okai... thats definetly changing my perspective about the galaxy tab.........

  • You need cache cleaner,It happen to me too, work find after use android assistant.

  • Design flaw or defective device? thumbs down for you.

  • @Hungryman97 Thanks! You know, for being ignorant. Also, design flaw since every Tab 10.1 I've gotten as a replacement did the same thing. Wewpz!

    Thumbs down for you! :D

  • I initially liked this device. However, I have recently found the same issues that you are talking about, and then now, I cannot get the device to boot up. This is ridiculous. I would not at all recommend this product whatsoever. I feel like it is a huge waste of money. I am going to try to return it, although I have had it for three months. Very frustrating.

  • Might be your battery dude. That sucks though. :(

  • get a xoom

  • @2kawasaki22 Those tablets suck. This is the best Android tablet out regardless of what u say, atleast until the Transformer Prime comes out

  • I have had my for a while and it has done this about three times. Plus once it made a horrible noise for about 15 minutes. Other than that I still love it and hope that a quick fix is in the works. I would love a reset button or to able to remove the battery also. Still wouldn't trade it for the world.

  • my samsung galaxy 2 has the sane faults,, Samsung sux

  • Hold down power and both rocker keys (volume keys) for 10 seconds...

  • Terry - regardless of the quarrel with TheAznGothic your observations have merit and are vital for both users and producers. It is obvious for anyone who had to reset ANY processor based (or electronic) device. If you imagine, that your cell phone would NOT allow you to reset it - all the users would throw them our the next day, no doubt. Producers MUST overcome this issue, and build at least pin hole reset into tablets. Period. BTW - the device cannot overheat due to "heavy use" you were right

  • @videofan006 Thank you! Ugh, I can't go a day without getting hatemail for this and no one seems to understand. It's good to know that someone out there gets the situation.

  • @TerryMasters247 It is not "no one" gets it, but smart guys are mostly busy with something else, than beating around any bush, we read opinions, but rarely spend time on taking sides, unless something ridiculous happens like it was here. Being an engineer for years I tend to look from the other side of the fence, but user observations are very important as here you speak about vital problem, whose device it is supposed to be and who needs full control over it. Recently we tend to forget about it

  • I take it samsung has be made aware of this issue?

  • samsung products has a lot of bugs and they are not stable

    I hate it

  • Send it back.

  • @shawngee1 You've heard the man - he has all his private data on it, and does NOT want anyone out there getting access to them. I tend to agree with him. This device should have the way to reset it by a "hard reset". Memory issues are too common to ignore it. Also - can you imagine Samsung's tech support dragging company down by resetting thousands of tablets each day? This ball is in a producer's court. They screwed up - they have to fix it. Unresponsive devices are a problem of our times.

  • good point, good point, but your voice reminds me of someone, and he's a giant douche. otherwise good showing here.

  • Hmmmm. I have one and mine doesn't have this problem.

  • Im taking my 10.1 back and getting a I pad

  • @FutureScience2012 I might be of the old school LOL, so I am waiting for their 3rd "service pack" until they get things ironed out. Once users accept it as a tool not a toy - then is the time to buy an item. Also I would like to have them to allow for several resolutions of the screen which flat screens are very bad at, but for the web/ professional use it becomes vital, as some websites/data are still presented for different resolutions. There still is no golden solution available today.

  • Ok, I don't get it...I just watched your update video and you stated you were running every program you could to drain the battery....and then you're ranting about how your device locked up blaming it on the hardware or firmware....Or perhaps you overloaded the tablet by running to many programs? Or overheated it by running to many programs? It sounds more like a user error then a device error.

  • @AznGothic It was a user error because I did something once to cycle the battery? No.

  • @TerryMasters247 It really doesn't matter if you do it once or a thousand times. If what you did caused the problem you can't blame it on the device. If you take your car past red line and blow the engine can you blame it on a faulty engine? I believe we all were taught as we were growing up to take responsibility for our actions regardless if its one time or continuous. At least I was taught that. That wasn't the proper way to drain the battery so you are at fault.

  • @AznGothic Your argument is "if I installed apps and ran them once, it's my fault the device broke".

What could possibly go wrong with that logic!

  • @TerryMasters247 lmao blocked me cause of...what?...cause you're a whiner that can't stand someone not agreeing with you? Grow a pair man :P And learn to read cause I didn't say running a program once breaks it. I said running multiple programs to overload the battery trying to drain it would cause great amounts of heat that would lock up your device. That's called heat failure from abnormal usage :) Ok, you can block me again now and go cry to your mommy lmao

  • @TheAznGothic I blocked you because you wasted my time, twice, with completely illogical ramblings including your life story which couldn't be more irrelevant to what I said. The replacement Tab I got? Did the same thing. But I didn't cycle that battery... totally user error!

Unfortunately you opted to be like every ignorant YouTube commenter and opened your mouth before doing your research.

You made a new account just to message me, how bout we "grow a pair" and not rage over YouTube videos.

  • @TheAznGothic

I agree with Terry. These devics should be ran to the max and still have the option to do soft or hard shutdown. Doesnt matter if you run 1 millon applicatons or none. The 1 or 2 procedures that should always work no matter what are the shutdowns.

Ive never seen a laptop, tower computer, phone, ect... that didnt allow for a hard/soft shutdown. Until now.

  • Looks like you just got a dud model dude, I'm sure they're not all that bad ;)

  • @TheRenoReviews Both my tabs had the same problem. So... it's not looking like it.

  • @TerryMasters247 oh that's odd! I've played with the galaxy tab 10.1 in my local electronics store a lot of times and never seen it play up like that! Oh well :/

  • Change your passwords on your connected accounts and return it. If you have tralalala files on it try transferring your shit out.

But before you do all that, do a restore.

  • Man I wish I had a voice like yours... so deep and sexy

  • I bought the 10.1 at Best Buy. Took it home and waited a long time for it to charge up. Finally after 4-5 hours, I got the unit to come up. I really love this tab from a look and feel perspective. Unfortunately, I started to experience freezing of the OS, apps, games, etc. at intermitent times. Once this started happening, I did my due diligence on the Internet and found that others were expereriencing the same. Needless to say, I returned it to Best Buy.

  • Oh man, I noticed this in a different way... basically some mornings my galaxy wont turn on... so I end up holding the power button ~15 seconds and it powers on. What was happening is, the screen was turning on when I plug it in and it would lock itself a few mins later. You are making ahuge deal out of it though.. press the lock button, dont be lazy. And you can return it after you goto settings and erase all data.

  • @MtnXfreeride My Galaxy Tab started smoking! I tried to eject the battery but gosh, it's unremovable... I know! I'll cut the juice and prevent a fire by holding down the power button!

Oh wait, you can't, because the hardware buttons rely on software.

Just because you can't see somethings a big deal doesn't mean it's not. You didn't have the same problem that I had, twice, nor did you get what the issue was to begin with. Try not to criticize others before voicing your opinion about something.

  • @TerryMasters247 Thats all it takes to be blocked? I wanted to comment saying I replied before the video was done/misunderstood what was going on. Its a different issue from mine (which is still an annoyance). Yours is much more serious and yes there is a data issue. I was wondering, can you connect through USB to erase it? Does anyone else have an issue where you put it to sleep and a few hours later when you go to wake it it wont power on unless you hold power ~20sec?

  • @Gibhunter119 When you get badgered by ten thousand people who need to open their mouths about something they don't understand, yes, you get a rebuttle and you get blocked. Especially when I've commented on products waiting for replies only to be hounded by this.

If there's power and the device is unlocked you might be able to erase it. I've had that sleep issue you mentioned but only after leaving it in the dock - which after testing seems to be where 90% of the problems come from.

  • @MtnXfreeride actually that is a huge deal.

  • LMAO when you started tapping on the lockscreen digits!!!!! NOTHING ELSE RESPONDS LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you think this is bad try buying the blackberry playbook. you make me hate you because i would trade you for the 10.1 RIGHT FUCKING NOW

  • I thought I was the only one with that power button problem. Sometimes i hit it a billion times nothing turns on.. happened a few times but of course, eventually it turns on.

  • ow man...Seems Apple faggots disliked this good vid for no reason...fuckin tools

  • I just picked up my galaxy 10.1 on aug 27 and low and behold I had the same problem...I returned the device and now I am crossing my fingers. All of you haters on here need to shut up. I looked it up and this happens to 44% of these devices. Apple has a bigger consumer base, so when something goes wrong with them the world listens.. With Samsung (a Korean based company) no one cares.

  • @axne1 44% of devices? Really? Whered you get that figure? I dk sounds suspect. Im sure there are defects out there but I dont see how you could've gotten that percentage unless Samsung released a statement.

  • Man You just got a bad tablet thats all just go back and get a new one.

  • @regcanada If you read the description and watched the video, you - like everyone else who rushed to the comment box - would have seen that I got a new one and that does it too. Thanks for opening your mouth though, totally not getting tired of the ignorance on here.

  • It's not a design flaw, if that was the case it would happen with every tab like iPhone 4 grip of death. I would go on but why waste my time

  • @berz924 you're right, cause the people who own more than one of them like myself and the hundreds of other forum posts with people have the same problem are all completely wrong. Spending your time disputing anything else would be pointless!

  • It's a defective unit! Not a design flaw. Really resisting the urge to call u names

  • @berz924 Learn to read! Replacement has it too! Really resisting the urge to call you ignorant like every other skim-reading jackass who commented on this video.

  • @TerryMasters247

Um before you go insulting people based on them not reading.

My first iPhone 4 I had to replace SIX times before I got a non defective one that didn't brick. If you kept getting it from the same store and/or distributor, it could have been a faulty shipment. It happens.

I had to get a iPhone 4 shipped in from out of town because people all over Vancouver were experiencing the same problems with them.

Your replacement isn't proof of design flaw, it's about consistency.

  • @DJK290 Hey, you know what wouldn't happen if the buttons didn't rely on the OS? This.

Guess you could say that's a bit of a design flaw.

  • @TerryMasters247

I own a Galaxy Tab 10.1v, my girlfriend has an iPad 2. Sometimes we have to borrow each other's to get something specific done, but there's no use going after one of them about a so called "design flaw" when only the rare person has witnessed this problem.

It was the same for the old XBOX RRoD. Some experienced it, others didnt. Difference is this problem is on a much smaller scale than the RRoD. Much less widespread. Better luck in the future.

  • @DJK290 That's cool. I know several people who've had the same problem as me, and I've done research on the RROD that estimates nearly half the people who've owned an Xbox 360 have at one point experienced it.

Your argument changes nothing in that a device with a non-removable battery should never, ever, have to rely on software for it's power buttons to function. Regardless of whether or not my screen stopped working, the POWER button should not have. It did. Hence "design flaw".

  • @TerryMasters247

Well at least you have an opinion about it. I can respect that. I don't see any problem with the softkey style layout imo, but to each his own. I havent yet thought 'Damn, I really wish it was a physical home key', so I guess it just doesnt matter to me.

  • @DJK290 it couldn't have less to do with a home key, but whatever floats your boat.

  • @TerryMasters247

Well home key, power key, whatever.

I havent had mine freeze...or I havent noticed it freezing on me.

  • @DJK290 There's a pretty enormous difference between the two. If you can't see it, then I'm not even going to waste my time.

    Nice chatting with you.

  • I really hope you gotthis resolved...but I am not surprised that this would happen on a dual core processing device that was made as thinly as the tab 10.1 is..sometimes the compromises made to get thinness just aren't worth it.

  • Let it go flat, boot into the bootloader and perform a device format, then return it. Your unit clearly has a fault, not an "enormous enormous" design flaw.

  • @TheRealUberSteve It's absolutely an enormous design flaw when a device with an unremovable battery relies on the operating system to determine the functionality of it's power button. The replacement Tab I got does the same thing albeit much less, does that one just have a fault too?

Seriously getting tired of the "know it alls" opening their mouths without watching the video OR reading it's description.

  • Seriously... YouTube? Keep disliking this video without commenting - I'll never learn how on earth you could misunderstand this and you'll never learn you're misunderstanding something.

    Everyone wins! :D

  • Ok, with this video I made up my mind. I will buy an iPad.

  • Thats why i stick to Apple.

  • reboot it into recovery mode... turn it off (somehow) then usually its holding the power button and a camera button or the power button and the volume down button, then volume down and fro the list get to recovery, press volume up, then wait. in recovery, just do a factory reset. it should work.

  • @niggz360 I tried, it wouldn't let me :(

Even calling Samsung and using their tab-specific button combinations didn't work. But like I said I got the replacement, this one seems to be fine. The screen only locks up once in a blue moon on the new one and is usually fixed by sticking it in and out of the dock, for some strange reason. Thank you though!

  • @TerryMasters247 well thats good you got another one. and no problem :)

  • u tried that, I didn't watch the video when I posted that

  • @goglee2 it's cool, I'm just glad you didn't call me any gratuitous names like everyone else who seems to comment lmao

  • haha

  • try holding down power and pressing volume up button. that works on the xoom

  • I have the problem with my galaxy tab 10.1.. Any luck in resolving this issue?

  • @anush26583 if it's as bad as mine, you have to exchange it. You can check out souja67's video though, you might get lucky and be able to fix it. It should be in the recommended videos!

  • Am I the only one laughing at the dislikes this videos getting from all the people who skimmed through it thinking this was just a simple push-and-hold reset?

    umad bros? ;D

  • i have the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S II but it only do that 1 time.

  • @HoMe3101 It's funny you say that, the replacement I got did it once too but it hasn't acted up since then.

  • @TerryMasters247 was the issue because you updated the galaxy tab 10.1 from android 3.0 to 3.1?

  • @HoMe3101 Mine came with 3.1, I think the only ones that didn't ship with that were the Google I/O Limited Edition models if i recall correctly.

  • Im having the same issue i have mine for 2 weeks now. every time i try to open the screen once in a while i would get the black screen :(

  • @atricio commenting on my video and accusing me of messing it up is going to get your comment deleted. I didn't mess it up, there are threads of other people having the same problem, and I don't reward insults like that on my channel.

  • I have had mine freeze up 4 times I can think of. basically it wont respond to touch input and when the screen shuts off, good luck turning it back on. not even the power adapter wakes it up as what happened in this video. I just repeatedly hit some random combinations of the power and volume buttons then after about 10-20 minutes it resets.

  • I commented before as I was watching that sucks that you have to deal with that. I'd say start changing your passwords all of them 500+ is a hit to the wallet ; /

  • Most android tablets seem to have slow accelerometer or the softare is slow reacting to the changes of the hardware. Sounds like with the power button either a light sensor issue or it may need a hard reset or worst case a full restore. Wanted to check it out at staples see what it was like. The xoom isn't bad but viewing angles suck

  • stupid fuck, either restore the factory image, or return it and get a new one you fucking piece of shit.

  • @IRIE4IPIER lmao, what a dumbass. Kind of hard to restore a factory image on something that's not responding, isn't it? ;)

  • that sucks...hope ur replacement is as good as my current one

does yours have the unlock icon when powering on?

  • @thatschill777 I got it this afternoon and I can already notice a difference, so here's hoping :)

But both of them had the unlock icon. I haven't heard of anyone getting one that was locked, much to my surprise!

  • Did you check this video, is it related to your issue youtube.com/watch?v=dojO5_g9Ilo

  • @jimraj77in I did, thank you. Unfortunately if it is in lock mode the method to get it out doesn't seem to be working. I should have a new one here tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to tell right off the bat if something was wrong.

  • Ok change all of your passwords etc. and then return it?

  • @darkdog4440 yeah that's what I'm doing. Hopefully the replacement will get here by tomorrow. Technically I should be ok sending this back cause I did have a PIN on it if someone did manage to get it working, but better safe than sorry.

I'm just afraid this could happen to someone else, since it doesn't seem like it's a hardware problem (the power button works in the followup video).

  • @TerryMasters247 Alright man, hope it works out :D im getting mine in two days

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like you have kinda bad luck with your tab, sent it back. That what you are showing here is not normal for the Galaxy Tab.

  • your tab is messed up... how long have you had it.... mine hast had this issue....
