Why is this JCM 800 SO HUGE? I thought JCM 800 was a home practice amp in the size of little box (I have seen on Youtube). I guess this model? comes in all different sizes. Also in Stackable style as well ??
Hey guys, I love this sweet sound and im looking forward to buy myself a 22100 but some tongues say that the early 80s 2203 would be better and has other sound...
Which one of these would you recommend to someone who loves when he can play on his Strat and LP things like Iron Maiden, AC DC, Guns n Roses, Black Sabbath, Metallica and some other rock/ metal stuff ?
@dzava Unless you really feel you need the 100watts, you might be able to find a used 2205 head on Ebay for about $850. That's what I paid for one last year for my 82' 2205. Had some uprgades done on it for about $350 which included a Mercury OT, Caps, Fred Diodes and replaced the tubes with JJ's. So I paid about $1200 where I would have paid around $1600 - $1700 for one of the newer Marshall heads. I'd say it's much better suited for the music you want to play and more touch responsive too.
@Supertzar999 Yess Ive been thinking of getting the Vintage Modern, especially because its very versatile and has bigger sound range than JCM and also sounds good in bedroom... thats one of the major problems i have. I play live but Id love to practice with this beauty in my apartment too
Sort of.. 2203-50 watt, 2204 100 watt, yes. The 2205 is a little different circuit. 2 channels, reverb. There is also a bridge rectifier type distortion added to the gain channel. Kind of a built in tube screamer. For this reason, it's often considered the first of the worse, or the last of best, depending on your opinion. IMO, it adds a nice little mid bump that'll fatten up a single coil guitar(cool), but'll take away some organic Humbucker crunch/squish.

@FrosredZiggy the 900 are good amps but....notes on the 800 are more defined at loud volume due to better components like tranformers and build qualitty overall etc
@teenangstbrigade jcm 800 kick the 900 ass. jcm800-hand wired. 900 are circuit board mounted hardware (pot ect). the 900 is too fizzy/raspy sounding. the 800 gives a solid bark that will bight throught the mix. but anything under 3 on the volume and they dont sound as good.......and number three is f.hookin loud.
@FrosredZiggy Some of the 900 use clipping diodes to generate the distortion, so they are not really all tube. but you can probably get one cheaper than a 800
@MikeModulus The later 800s have clipping diodes as well. I'm talking about the two-channel 2205 head and its combo versions. They also use circuit board mounted hardware (I have one).
i have this same amp but mines a 88, great amp, i use mesa boogie tubes in mine, and to screams, I use mine live nearly every weekend for the last ten years, ive played with rhythm guitarist who have used everything from Randals, to Marshal Mod 4's currently my rhythm guys uses a jcm 2000, and my amp blows his out of the water as far as tone, i use original 71 greenback celestions in my cab and they give me a wonderful tone,
@DJBackslick the 100 watt is a bit louder but you will be fine with a 50 watter. you hit the sweet spot of the amp a little earlier while playing live...
@DJBackslick . tom morello always uses a 50w jcm live. he doesn't seem to have volume problems. whenever the pa is loud enough to overpower a 50w head the amp is always micked
@DJBackslick i bet you will find that 50w is way louder than you need. 50w does not mean it is half as loud as a 100w. i gig fairly large shows with a 30w 212 combo and i usually have to switch it to 15w
@DJBackslick 30 watts plus is loud enough to play live dont let anyone tell u otherwise.....the main difference between 50 and 100 is headroom...which basically means a 100 watt amp will stay cleaner at higher volumes while a 50 watt will break up sooner.

Hi! i want to get slash's tone in Appetite for Destruction, i know a guy who has a JCM 800 2204 and he wanna sell it to me! do you think i will get slash 's tone with that amp? thank you! antbofy plz
Oh yeah! and also i will get that next week :) but what bothers me is that there is two Jacks for High and low sens... can i buy an amp splitter to go from high to low? thanks !
Well thank you for informing me i think i will still want to get that amp though i can not switch sens. But can i get clean tones out of the High sens without lowering the pre-amp just 6.5 pre-amp and lower volume on guitar?
I bought one of these new in 87 and it went thru hell for years. Good rugged amp but it finally fizzled out in 97 or so. I just ran a rack EQ in the loop. Got a new JVM 410H now. Shit it will put all these to shame.
great sounds!.. igot 4 of these heads with four 1960 green back cabinets..2 slants and 2 flats. Swapped all the old tubes For groove tubes..works for me! processing ? ya i got a bit..lol Marshall RULES!
Hello! i have a line 6 tube amp and i am a slash tone detective lol. i want to sell it an get a JCM 800 combo will it sound good like slash? also some guy is offering me a MArshall 3203 head he says its a 30w jcm800 is it true if yes is it better to get the combo or the 3203! anybody answers plz
just buy a vintage modern or look on ebay for a slash model currently slash is using the vintage modern series from marshall that should cover ur basis for his basic tone that and a LP with SD Alnico II Humbuckers Good Luck
omg i just found a 2210 on ebay with roadcase and footswitch for $1099, im so f%#*en happy, without you and slash's tone i wouldn't be buying this beast. THANK YOU! 2210! awesome :D
Hey man. I dig your tone. Is Marshall good for heavy metal such as Metallica, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, and stuff like that but a little more high gain. Thanks in advance and KEEP ON ROCKIN!
tone is subjective...people say the plexi"s( late 60's and early 70's ptp marshalls) are the best sounding amps and i tend to agree but i think the jcm 800 has that magic tone that works ...and it's in the same quality range as old plexi's.
This would be perfect for some Judas Priest. You really have to be a clean player for this amp, because mistakes are very noticeable even by the best of players.
RATM! USES THIS!

Fantastic tone!!!!!
1. What level of pre and master volume did you put?
2. Can you get this beautiful tone in low levels of master volume?
0LesPaul0 2 years ago
can't remember the settings ...i think the gain was high up and the volume was just a little loud to get the tubes working

Hello! i have a line 6 tube amp and i am a slash tone detective lol. i want to sell it an get a JCM 800 combo will it sound good like slash? also some guy is offering me a MArshall 3203 head he says its a 30w jcm800 is it true if yes is it better to get the combo or the 3203! anybody answers plz
slimyesli 3 years ago
just buy a vintage modern or look on ebay for a slash model currently slash is using the vintage modern series from marshall that should cover ur basis for his basic tone that and a LP with SD Alnico II Humbuckers Good Luck
Dreamscapevirus 2 years ago
Great sound my friend. What were the amp settings? Do you go for a scooped sound or higher in the mids?
memygtar 3 years ago
thanks...higher on the mids...it works on the jcm 800 series...very musical mids
plexilespaul 3 years ago
is your guitar plugged directly into the amp, how did you get the distortion on the amp? i

docguitar3 3 years ago
aorund $2,000 U.S, so about €1,550
laddieola101 3 years ago
I picked up a JCM800 2204 last year for $800, and combo (4010) version last month for $725. Worth every cent.
budwhysr 2 years ago
is that 2000 for the head and the cab or just the head. im looking for one in australia and its pretty expensive for my limited budget :P
dilligaf1942 2 years ago
wait, is there really a big tone difference between the 2203, 2205, and 2210?
dylaann1 3 years ago
omg i just found a 2210 on ebay with roadcase and footswitch for $1099, im so f%#*en happy, without you and slash's tone i wouldn't be buying this beast. THANK YOU! 2210! awesome :D
dylaann1 3 years ago
you welcome allthough....in my opinion any jcm 800 is good enough for a slash tone but the jubillee/slash head will nail it to the bone
plexilespaul 3 years ago
if you cant get hold on a 2205 would you go ahead and get a 2203(reissue) or wait and try to find a 2205?
dylaann1 3 years ago
i would go a head with the 2203 allthough
i would not give up searching for a 2205
plexilespaul 3 years ago
I got one and all I can say is 10/10

That IS the true sound of ROCK. I can spot a JCM800 a million miles away - it's the sound of enchantment.

Hey man. I dig your tone. Is Marshall good for heavy metal such as Metallica, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, and stuff like that but a little more high gain. Thanks in advance and KEEP ON ROCKIN!
oldGNRfan23 3 years ago
Yes in short.
paperbea 3 years ago
this amp is heavy metal allover...and i am not just saying that .... i had lots of amps including superleads, jubilee and such
plexilespaul 3 years ago
Is the JCM 800 Marshall's best amp?
oldGNRfan23 3 years ago
tone is subjective...people say the plexi"s( late 60's and early 70's ptp marshalls) are the best sounding amps and i tend to agree but i think the jcm 800 has that magic tone that works ...and it's in the same quality range as old plexi's.
plexilespaul 3 years ago
hey, what settings are you using here?

chrismortloch92 3 years ago
Thanks for your nice work!
By the way, melodyboys com*cn can help you get this wonderful guitar at a rather low price. Have a try!
guitarworld08 3 years ago
This would be perfect for some Judas Priest. You really have to be a clean player for this amp, because mistakes are very noticeable even by the best of players.
