IDK I personally like the Windows Mobile app the best. It's runs so well, even on older smartphones and has support for Google Latitude and street view as well as some nice touch controls.
Works better on my HTC which has built in GPS and connects to 3g. I feel for people if they have already purchased an Iphone. They shouldve waited. It has no mobile internet.
The difference with the google maps client on iPhone is the fact that it can be navigated around using your fingers, and it ties in with your contacts so that you can select a contacts address and show it on map. Other than that, I guess its all pretty standard.
you can do all that, find a number and call it via a trio they same way they show in the iphone commercial. Apple has this big thing of pretending to be innovators in places they aren't.
LOL, what is the price because the lowest price i found was like $1000, without contract like the iPhone. From the breakdown of specs, i can tell that the n95 is also less powerful than the iPhone.
Now, i dont own a n95, my friend does, and the lack of touch screen is a real limitation. Yes it runs flash apps, but they are almost unuasble because your clicking around on a tiny keypad. The software is also better than most but it still pales when compared to the iPhone.
Your dreaming, the iPhone is light years behind the N95 in almost every way. Its specs are utterly rubbish, and are already completely outdated. No flash, paltry 2mpx, no zoom, no autofocus, crappy wifi, no gps, awful menu system, very limited voip support, the list goes on. The N95 is a typical Japanese triumph over the usual bullsh*t US phones.
The N95 has a GPS also, so you don't have to "tell" the phone where you are when you use any of the navigation applications. Hmm maybe N95 is better than iPhone :)
None of the features on the iPhone are new. Other phones have been doing the "real" internet, Google Maps, non-Blackberry 'push' mail, music, touch screen, and a high price tag. The way Apple did it makes it seemless, attractive, and hip. Anybody who didn't know this is dumb. Yes I am a "Mactard" and I will be buying an iPhone, but I underderstand the downfalls of the iPhone and they are ok with me. Not everyone need 3G or 100GB memory.
Yeah, Nokia really ripped Apple off by making a phone with a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, 3G, video calling and all those unique-to-apple features like Google Maps, MP3 player, email client...
Wait im confused. Apple pantented mp3 playing phones, email, and google features? WOW!!!!!!
No one was ripped off here. Both worked independantly to create two differnt devices that are based differently.
When will people realise that the whole point of the iPhone is the revolutionary UI and ease of use, not the hardware. Its not like apple can put a fussion reactor in the damn thing.
Is that how it normally looks on the N95? Why is it so crappy and the interface looks kinda clunky compared to what I've seen from CBS and various sources? Also it doesn't look very well polished as a devices. It seems to have all these gadgetry attached to hit, kinda like transformers toys.
Why does it take your phone so long to load google maps. On the iphone it seems so much simpler and easier to use. Symbian is a terrible OS and should be put to rest as soon as possible.
limoranch, you basically suck! Steve Jobs was connecting with WiFi in his keynote. Most probably he connected with an extremely high speed WiFi. You know why?? Do you think that he was brave enough to reveal the fact that he couldn't connect that fast with his sluggish 2.5G? Anyway, go and get your iCrap and don't cry and yell "why doesn't it connect to google maps as in Job's keynote!
I posted a video response to show doubters that 2G is good enough for Google Maps. 2G is good for all the widgets on the main menu of the iPhone and email, but I wouldn't want to use it to surf the web.
Yeah but why would I want to when I have a smartphone that already HAS a full rendered internet, that can PLAY flash, that can view PDFs, that can cut and paste... etc.. for cheaper on a faster network?!
If you have an iphone, try this, send an email with a picture you just took... on the EDGE network. :)
I don't think anyone is recommending you replace your smartphone with an iPhone. All that counts is that you're happy with your mobile device right? Sending an email with a photo attachment over EDGE isn't instant, but it takes less than a minute and is done in the background, so it doesn't strike me as a deal breaker.
BTW, the purpose of this video was to show that Google Maps is not unique to iPhone. I downloaded and installed Google maps just for this purpose and as soon as I uploaded this video I deleted it. You know why?? I have maps of 150 countries built in!
In reality- it will never load up that fast, those are for commercial purposes only, pre-cached sites. At best it will be decent when connected to Wi-Fi .

What IS unique to the iPhone is integration with the address book and turn byt turn Mapping - basically, integrating it tightly with the underlying OS
I hope a subsuequent version (of the OS - not hardware) will use the cell towers to triangulate or at least locate the zip code for you....
The GPS sucks LOTS of power - I would rather have no GPS and have twice the battery time, which the iPhone has....
ebernet 4 years ago
turn by turn mapping isn't integrating with the OS, it's an added feature to an application that can be applied to added to any mapping program.

The iphone did only 1 thing, it made others think on how to create the interface, that is all.
And I agree Apple is good at that.
As for functionality, they always fall short.
