To Greg and Rose. That Was a great dance routine together. I just want to know, what was the name of the song played during your routine? If I'm Not mistaken. I thought I heard two songs played. Correct me If I'm wrong. But any way. The both of you were great.
ROSE3LES. Thanks for the compliment. :-) I don't know what the name of that song is but I'll try to find out. If anyone out there knows the name of that song please post it via text comment. P.S. It was all only one song.
This is latin hustle you just change the start point to the land on the beat. All dances have points in common, the hand dances and swing dance have a lot in common, but they are not the same dance and this is not Chicago steppin.
Thanks for the response, 4throomtotheleft. If you type in "latin hustle" in the search area of YouTube, a number of video clips of latin hustle come up. If you examine these clips you will see what they are doing is not what I'm doing. In other words, I am not doing latin hustle. The count in latin hustle is: "and-a-1,2,3" "and-a-1,2,3" "and-a-1,2,3"..... etc. I'm dancing an 8 count.
See also csquaredmedia comment in my video clip entitled "Dance Stepping Atlanta Georgia Greg, Rose- Stepper Step 3" One excerpt from csquaredmedia comment is, "Yes, this is stepping. I'm a Detroit fan. To each their own. Keep gettn' your step on."
4throomtotheleft . Per your comment, "this is not Chicago steppin." I agree, this is not Chicago steppin'. I underline the word "Chicago". To clarify what I mean, I repeat a comment I made earlier below as follows: "I'd agree with "bbstepper" in his comments that "...if you are calling it "stepping" in generic sense OK." Let's just call it "stepping" in the generic sense and leave it at that.... " Again, thanks for the response.
In this way, four steps are taken to three beats of music. The step timing may be counted 1,2,&3 or it may be counted &1,2,3 .... systems are equivalent... The dance is the same, regardless of which counting system is used. **from a latin hustle site**
Hi, I came back 2 look 2C if there was any good discussion... Yep! So, I'll add my 2cents: I dance the hustle (Not many people say Latin or N.Y. just hustle) when I have partner... the &1 is 1-beat with 2 weight changes 2,3 =3-beats. This is different frm other dances! But there is a 4-count hustle too. :-). I have seen L.C. Henderson do more moves that look like the huslte! W/o a good of set wrap turns, a better grapevine, the distinctive footwork & the common send-out & return: NOT the hustle
Hand dancing and swing dancing and "Chicago" Stepping have more than a lot in common -- they all were derived from the SAME dance. Even the term "Stepping" isn't original -- People were "Stepping" in NY, DC and LA back in the 30's and 40's. But, I'm very curious: Can someone show me a good example of what IS Chicago Stepping? Just for the record.
Do you teach classes, if so where? I am moving from Detroit to the ATL area this summer and don't want to give up dancing:) I've been Detroit ballrooming awhile, but just learned to step last night. You two look good, Keep it Up!!!
There are plenty of female steppers who look feminine doing their steps.Steppers have a style, they are not supposed to look like salsa dancers.Every dance style looks different. This is definitely not stepping.
I think I should clarify what I meant. In most social dances, the man is the frame and the lady the picture he's presenting. In Steppin and Detroit "Ballroom", typically, the men showboat while the women are pretty much pieces of furniture to be dances with 2,3 and sometimes even 4 at a time. Yes, I see plenty of feminine looking females in Steppin, but I also see quite a few dressed up in pant suits and hats and boppin big time like the guys. That's cute, interesting, fun, but rarely sexy.
Thanks for the response. The problem is that there are a number of different versions of stepping. I've seen 6,8, and 12 count versions. Chicago, Detroit, D.C. versions and others. Until the dance is truly formalized you really can't say one version is stepping and the other is not.
Also, I'd agree with "bbstepper" in his comments that "...if you are calling it "stepping" in generic sense OK." Let's just call it "stepping" in the generic sense and leave it at that....
Right on, giftz1999! People from different neighborhoods in Chicago itself don't even agree on what Steppin is. And, how many times have you heard this dance advertised as "90% attitude, 10% technique"? "Stepping" is what you see the Ladies doing, while the guys appear to be doing something like old James Brown moves in slow motion. It all comes from the same source, whether you're talking about West Coast Swing, DC Hand Dance, Carolina Shag, Texas 2 Step, LA Bop OR Steppin.
I have to admit I'm not a big Steppin' fan, but it sure helps when you and your partner clearly have some dance training. I already know about the Salsa, but did I see a little NY Style Hustle in there? Tell your partner she's fabulous. I rarely see women Steppers who actually look feminine doing their steps. Very nice turning technique.
Thanks for the response. Very good perception in picking up the NY Style Hustle influence. Both dances are 8 count, and I started out NY Style Hustle back in the 70's, 80's, and it definitely influences my dance style.
the song is wifey by next. A remixed virgin.

I must agree 4throom, this style is more of what we call the latin hustle here in the "D". But either way...I think they look good:)

The Basic Step of the Hustle
In this way, four steps are taken to three beats of music. The step timing may be counted 1,2,&3 or it may be counted &1,2,3 .... systems are equivalent... The dance is the same, regardless of which counting system is used. **from a latin hustle site**
(Two 4's are 8 all day every day)

Within the 8 counts, the movement of feet in what we're doing is not like and is not the same as the movement of feet in Latin Hustle.

just call it dancing, not stepping.A novice dancer may view this,go out to a set and embarrass themselves trying these moves. This is not stepping.
