I've raced my e46 stock m3 2003 vs a stock m5 2003 and beat them on the hwy. Never raced from a stand still. It was 45MPH - 140MPH. I just kept slowly pulling on him. Raced 2 now.

More to speed that HP.. gear ratio, where power kicks in, weight, and many other factors. Just cause a car has more HP doesn't mean it's faster. Look at the S2k with 250hps keeping up with cars with more HP.

I'm not saying the m5 is a worse car. That's a matter of perspective. All I am saying, stock vs stock, the M3 has better nevers everywhere. The M5 is a big heavy car. By stronger do you mean HP? Then yes you are right. By 0-60, quarter mile, or hwy race? The M3 is stronger and pulls harder. It's a faster stock car. M3 is a powerful luxury ride too.

A stock E46 M3 puts down around 280-290rwhp (dynojet). You can modify them to get around 305-310rwhp with significant bolt ons (no cats and around $6k in other parts).

With headers and tuning, 380rwhp is a few ticks away. However, at the expense of volume (headers make it REALLY loud) and another $3000...I'm happy with the M5 as is.

This has Dinan Stg 1 software (no HP). Was yours also on a Dynojet?

The A/F ratio up top was VERY rich, indicating lots of fuel to keep the motor happy at high RPM (cooler). You can tune the motor for more top end power and lean out the A/F ratio to still-safe levels.
