  • I wish my guitar was as small as Aaron's.

  • great band, alternative

  • I know these guys are a Christian band, but this song just has a good general message and is catchy as all hell. I'm not religious, but I know good music when I hear it.

  • @MissIcia actually they're not a "Christian" band. They actually just draw their influence from religion. Because a lot of their songs are about other religions. Such as Islamic and Judaism.

  • @VintageSinAlpha Ah. Well, that's even more interesting. I've only heard three songs from this band. Makes me want to hear more knowing they take inspiration from several religions.

  • I love this song : ) and i also love how much energy is put into it : ) his expression is at is so funny 2:26

  • It seems weird how us hardcore fans like this.

  • @iamhalfaccurate hahaha. i know exactly what you mean man.

  • My favourite song in the whole world :D:D I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the clarinet and violin in this version.

And the tuba too. Totally makes it

  • The baker looks a bit like James Deen.

  • This has to be my favorite music video, the baker cracks me up everytime!

  • I love it!

  • Umm in his songs he talks about being a virgin at 27 and getting erections while hugging dudes. I'm willing to have a discussion about it if you act like adults.

  • @nmn246 who the hell cares, man. good music is good music, even if what you say is true

  • @ajmac42 I don't care. I've seen them twice and have all of their records

  • I can't wait until aaron weiss accepts his homosexuality and realizes that hiding from it is the reason he's so religious. If he doesn't kill himself it will be a great record.

  • @nmn246 Cool story, bro!

  • @nmn246 haha wow man. you're really an idiot. but God still loves you! ;)

  • @nmn246 the first part of your post may or may not be true; regardless, can't a person be religious for reasons that have nothing to do with whatever their sexual orientation is? as to the last statement, I certainly hope that they continue to put out great music, but one really shouldn't be flippant about suicide, especially since Aaron has talked about feeling suicidal in his younger days...i respect your opinions, but also respect the band and Aaron:)

  • Hey who are they???? Really enjoyed that....fab performance! Going to google them!

  • mewithoutyou

  • @tonesofheresy00

I guess that was a rhetorical and philosophical question...I should be more careful :o) I did read up their biog...nice to find out new things. Thanks for explaining!

  • I love this song :D

  • This goes directly to my top 100 songs!

    amazing!

  • This reminds me of a russian story I was told many times when I was little, pretty sure that's what it's based on

  • amazing

  • Dear mewithoutYou,

so you just come into my heart without even knocking and leave me helplessly in love?

    yours,

    kafarzyna

  • @kafarzyna - i totally feel your heartbreak - you said this perfectly:)

  • Coolest bass drum head ever haha.

  • I'm just going to say it.. best video Ive seen in years.. very original, would make for a great show. I'd love to see this performed live :)

  • I love the use of human power holding the fox instead of animations or machinery. :)

  • An amazing videomusical interpretation of Jean de la Fontaine!

  • please explain how this isnt original? are you just upset because it doesnt sound like their other albums? none of their albums sound the same really. .. i love the new album, though it is a bit of acquired taste.

  • @superforgottenboy hahahaha!

  • This sounds like a diabetes song!!!!

  • Dear mewithoutYou, Please remain original and don't fall to wanna be talented standards. Yours, -atomaant

  • reminds me of a The Decemberists video

  • Is this song a metaphor or something?

  • @PancakeRunner-

The crow was so proud and quick to sing about it. The baker was so angry, even when he took the chance to take back what was his in vengeance, he was unsuccessful.

The fox was deceitful in his tactics.

What I take from this is that it is human to be angry about losing what is ours, when it really doesn't belong to us in the first place (baker). We are quick to brag and boast about what we do to others (crow). We are often deceitful to get what we want in life.

  • this reminds me on an aesop fable

  • best to give praise, where praise is due.

  • Bravo :)

  • Oh my gosh. I just realised they have cardboard amps.

  • Hey! I had to memorize the French poem that this song is about for class! ^^

    PS. Love it :].

  • definitely agree, this has a a much happier tone to it than past albums

  • i love aaron's facial expressions

  • Forget to mention that I only have to censor it if I am referring to "The one god". I didn't mean to say Christianity at the end, I meant religion. woops.

  • dude i wanna like this band but the vocals just kill it for me.. Ive heard a hand full of songs from them and he barley utters 2 to 3 different notes when he's "singing" (talking really).. sweet video though for sure! i'm not hatin just giving my opinion.. however..I suppose thats what makes them unique. It seems more of like a story telling role than it is a singing one. idk s'all good tho. i'm glad their doing well on their label.. their livin the dream n thats awesome

  • I feel the same way, this is the first song I can actually stand his vocals one!

  • @Obenonn this is actually the closest he has been to 'singing' in all of their albums...that's the beauty of this band, his writing is sheer poetry, in my opinion none of their songs would be as good if Aaron simply sang them, I think speaking them as he does allows him to put more emotion into the words and puts his meaning across in a much more meaningful way...wish you liked them, I think they're amazing, you should definitely give them a chance to grow on you

    God Bless

  • Not a believer, but think a lot of good can come from the lessons religion offers, and regardless of their beliefs or faith this band is fantastic!

  • ah, i love this

  • I think the song is based on a fable by Aesop. He might have in turn got it from somewhere else though...

  • Muslims and christians both believe there is only one G-d. In light of that common faith they must both be worshiping the same G-d for there is only one G-d to worship in spirit and in truth.

  • that's what i believe too.

  • @LonelyWheat

it is the same God.. in arabic Allah and God are synonymous..

its the process of salvation where Christianity and Islam differ

  • and belief of Jesus' significance

  • But Muslims don't worship him the way he demands.

  • unless you have personally spoken to god you cannot say that. Muslims worship like they think they should, as do Christians and Jews.

  • G-d? God? In school, if I wanted to use the term "God" I would have to censor it, as you do here. I think that's silly. But I can right "Alah". Why is that?

Christianity is really becoming frowned upon. Am I rambling? I am....

  • um you clearly dont understand to which religion g-d applies ahaha

  • the point isn't the censoring of the word, God. mewithoutYou "censors" it by writing G-d in their lyrics because of the Jewish foundation in the band. In traditional Judaism, it is forbidden to write the true name of God because that would mean that it is as pure as the Lord himself and therefore can never be destroyed or deleted. Seeing as accidents happen, it is ridiculous to assume the paper it is written on will never be destroyed, so they avoid it by not writing the true name of God.

  • Wow, Aaron looks different every time I see him

  • I love it!

  • Indeed it is :P

  • i personally dont really believe in any specific religion more of a spiritual person but this song is truly fantastic

  • I like what you said Mtayieb... I may not agree with everything Muslims believe in, but the most important thing is that we worship the same God, and that's all that matters... if we have God we can do anything <3

  • there christian and im muslim but we both love god. ( im ready for all the hate comments lol)

  • this song is based on a muslim sufi story by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen.I love these guys for there unification of religons.they share a simillar belief to me that the only religon is the religon towards god.

  • @Indieexploration He probably cooks inside just he peddles his wares outside. He's like a mobile vending machine.

  • @Indieexploration It's a song... lol

  • This is just amazing this song is fantastic.

  • Just Brilliant, I agree with, "Jessepink" :)

  • there is probably more than one message to take away from this song, but i think a big one is that you should be careful about who you trust. the crow bought into the fox's flattery and it cost him his treat.

  • more about not being proud

  • The moral i saw was how hard work pays off.

The fox tried much harder to get food than the crow but failed. and then when he asks the crow to share the crow dosent respond. Then the fox compliments him, and when the crow agrees, the treat fell out of his beak and the fox got it.

The fox tried hard for the food unlike the crow who didnt deserve it lost it when he decided to be arrogant.

  • Awesome video. I love the way they did the "bad words" and the music. Such a creative idea!

  • i find something new to laugh at every time i watch this vid!

    lovin it!

  • aaron(:

  • this is just like Aesop's fable "The Fox and the Crow".

  • I loved this video and the song

  • *In Marv Alberts voice* YES!!!

  • Greeeeaaaaat song :]]] Gal yra Lietuvių, norinčių groti kažką panašaus į mewithoutyou??? atsiliepkit :]]

  • so great! love this song

  • <3 1000000000000000/10

  • I can't stop listening to this, its so good <3

  • Dito

  • wow, a really interesting video

  • I love these guys, they're so awesome! :D

  • fantastic band and a fantastic song mewithoutyou is just amazing

  • total awesome. =B

  • what is this? no naked girls? I can't believe my eyes and ears, this is actually a video with a message and a story :O

great song! great lyrics and great video!

  • @LucasJohansson

    wut is the message

  • I know this isn't directed at me but...

The main message, I believe, is that vanity and greed (the crow) makes a mess of your life and that "letting all attachments go" is the way to simplicity and happiness.

    It's very beautiful. .

  • @LucasJohansson why can't a video have a message AND naked girls?

That would truly be a masterpiece.

  • @Nukleurfire Because naked girls usually get in the way of the message, as evidenced by people like you who have to take every opportunity to convince the world of their straightness instead just seeing beauty.

  • and as the baker dives for the cookie he already lost, he leaves the cart open for all the village children to come up and eat everything else.

  • Awesome!!!

  • I love that the set is made out of cardboard.

  • Who cares how deep is?

The vid is made worth it by the classic faces Aaron makes at 2:16 and 2:25.

    mewithoutYou is kick-butt.

  • I believe it comes from the Lafontaine fable "the crow and the fox", in which e crow owns a cheese in his mouth. Wanting it, the fox tels him he is the best, and tells him he thinks that his voice is wonderful. Hearing this the crow begins to sing and lets the cheese fall on the floor. The fox eats it and tells to the crow that it is a good lesson for him ^^

  • @AnaisGarnier no i think it comes from the story by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen which has the exact same name

  • The interpretations I have read are comical to say the least and flat out wrong to say the most. The song is not "deep" (whatever that means) but really very simple. The crow thinks everyone likes him so when the fox tells him how great he is the crow believes him and begins to sing. The fox doesn't actually believe that the crow is amazing he just wants what is in the crows mouth. It's not an allegory or a metaphor just a short simple story sang beautifully.

  • How one interprets something they hear or see can't be wrong. It's simply their take or opinion on the subject. That's like saying someone is wrong for disliking this song, or any song for that matter. Your interpretation of this song is simpler than most people's, but people aren't wrong for finding deeper meanings in the things they are hearing. That is what makes music so significant to our lives. The fact that we can relate what we're hearing to situations that we ourselves are going through

  • I used the wrong word when I said interpretation so I'm sorry for the confusion. I realize that interpretations can't be wrong because it's more of a personal lens that they're viewing it in that I don't necessarily share. What I meant to comment on was the way people were getting the facts of the song wrong and then drawing conclusions from misinformation.

  • Yeah cuz one can really have a patent on what interperatation is right when it comes to thngs like this ;D.

  • You folks could just read the short fable by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen on which this song is based. It's from a book called "My Love You My Children," and explains the meaning pretty thoroughly...

  • He didn't humble himself, though. Not really. He pretended to, to trick the crow. Neither one of them is better than the other. The fox is just smarter.

  • Pretty sure I've read something by Aaron explaining this CD. If I can find it I'll post it to prove my point.

  • under the conceit of honey being more useful than vinegar, this is saying that the honey is effective even if it is artificially sweetened. and it does take some humility to even pretend, but yeah good point.

  • "You better bring those pastries back you no good burnt-black macaroon!"

    God, I love this song.

  • The crow looks so cool!!

  • Haha! I just realized the vocalist plays the baker xD

  • philistine.

  • I love it more and more every time I listen. As beautiful and well-constructed the lyrics are, however, I still don't understand the metaphorical undertones. I mean, if there actually are any.

  • It's a cute story about the dangers of hubris.

  • it all has to do with pride.

  • Humility and pride :]

Crow = Full of himself when the fox asks for a share.

Fox = A good guy, kind of, for humbling himself before the crow. Resulting in him getting the sweets.

  • fox is not a "good guy". he gets the cookie by tricking the crow to sing, by saying that he had a beautiful voice.

  • Why try and cause an argument? He was a better creature then crow for humbling himself.

  • flattery is a form of hatred. falsely building someone up but on the but actually laughing at them in secret.

  • acually the fox was bad too, he was just acting "foxy" to get the treat :P

  • you guys rockkkkkkkkk!!!

  • i love the way they mastered the acoustic guitar, strong driven sound, no boring plinking, just a nice rough strum. pure brilliance. this whole CD seems to have been mixed very well great stuff. haha, not to mention so very well written.

  • love the guy on the toy piano!

  • Its weird likeing music your teacher listens to...

  • i sincerely love aaron weiss... <3 mewithoutYou is one of my all time fav bands. i love every album even though they've changed they are still flippin amazing.

  • Wow, this video is original! A song that isn't about love and broken relationships, how seldom.. -- . --

  • so true, so true

  • I must say. at first i didnt like it much. 2nd time i saw it i loved it. strange how that works. Its not my fav video.

  • this band is just so awesome. and the director did a great job.

  • and these lyrics are simply brilliant

  • This is so creative & weird. I love it. It's rad.

  • aesop fable

  • One of my favorite songs from this album, second only to KBoaCE. Now if they did a music video for that, I would probably, just.. I don't even know... But it would be awesome.

  • Or a music video to Fig with a Bellyache lol?

  • ahhh!

  • His lyrics could cure cancer

  • Whats that little piano called?

  • a TOY piano!! lol

  • lolol

  • glockenspiel!!!

  • I think the album is good, I don't listen to it much though because I have trouble relating to it. It is still mewithoutYou sharing their wisdom, but for the first time since I started listening I think the band is in a different place. Aaron talked about how the band had changed and grown out of the anger phase with this album, which is good and healthy for them. But I am still in that phase of questioning and I miss the brutal honesty of the questioning they brought in the old albums

  • so I think our arguments about whether its good or not are kinda mute. Its only your opinion, which is valid, but nothing to attack another person over.

It has got me looking at my life like mwY always does and questioning by own ideas and issues. But it doesn't strike the old passion in me.

I don't really believe in religion but there is some good life values that can be learned in their music

  • I've listened to mewithoutYou from A-->B Life to currently... I can appreciate a band that evolves their sound, but doesn't lose their essence. This may be my favorite song they've released ever, as my musical tastes have evolved as well...

and this is coming from an atheist, so it's nothing but musical merit, which the new stuff has in spades

  • mwY has gone through such a huge transformation ever since A --> B Life came out. Sometimes its hard for me to look at this and think this is the same band that wrote "I never said that i was brave" and "the cure for pain".

I appreciate and enjoy this new album but A -->B Life will always be my first love when it comes to their discography

  • they definitely have more of a folk sound to them now

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!

  • i love it!

  • haha, small detail, but mike's wallet in his ass pocket looks pretty stupid. must have just come back from lunch when that scene was shot. ha

  • I knew he was gorgeous under the beard!

So sad I was in Europe when they came here last :(

This video is equally in awesomeness to the song.

  • I know! He has a lovely jawline. That sounds kinda, weird, but he does.

  • love love love love love love love love love

    i'm in love

  • Aaron Weiss is so beautiful. :)

  • I haven't decided yet if this is the gayest or most badass music video ever made.

  • its friggen aweesome!!! haha, i get what you mean though.

  • HAHAHAHAHA I KNOW!!!

  • i love this band and their live show and their sound. i hear they are some sort of 'Christian' fellows. oh dear!

  • jewish, muslim, christian...whatever they are... search sufism in wikipedia, that might give you some clue. pretty silly comment though dude.

  • oh okay i just assumed because a man told me once. great music regardless. youre a silly comment. youre wikipedia. youre some clue. see i can be mean also

  • lmfao i will to xD
