I played bari sax for years in high school, college, and in combos. I even got the chance to play the bass sax a few times. You really have great breath control and technique to make that monster sound so good.  How long can you phrase between breaths on the contrabass sax?

I love these big buggers, but realistically I think that if I were a reed guy I'd rock a nice bari and the cheapest/best contrabass sarrusaphone I could find. I haven't seen one for sale in a while (nor have I really paid attention, after all I did buy a contrabass trombone...) but I've seen people saying they average between 4-6000. Unfortunately, the contrabone cleaned me out for everything except maybe an older low Bb bari (and I would want/need a low A)! :)

Randy's Contra-bass sax is in the key of Eb. One octave below the Bari sax. I think it's reed size is 2x4.

I use a Zinner bass saxophone mouthpiece in this video. However, old large chamber baritone sax mouthpieces by conn or Buescher or Martin also work very well. They are not loud, but they play well. Sometimes you have to enlarge the part that fits on to the neck cork

In concert pitch, probably a C or a C#. So that's either an A or an A#/Bb on the saxophone. (It's an Eb instrument)

I believe a tubax officially isn't a saxophone, because of the shape and bore size of the instrument... Look on it's wikipedia page, you can find more information about it there ;)

Btw, the Eb tubax has just as low as a contrabass sax.
