A, "joey", is a young kangaroo. If i had to fight a kangaroo i would pick a,"joey." I think Nick had to fight Kangaroos at the start of his gigs. He was a good fighter, but found the Kangaroos vicious. He longed to fight a "joey". I think once you learn that, the song will become clearer.

when i listen to Nick Drake's songs im still amazed that all that melody and power is coming from just one guitar, and all that soul is coming from just one voice...never have i heard something more pure and divine from any artist, thats why he will always be my favorite.

Some people question whether Nick Drake's noted talent in peoples minds comes more from the point that he died than from his real talent. I can see this inflated effect on other artists who died but not Nick Drake. Yes, maybe the cause of his death and his lifestyle helped him in his songwriting but the man was pure talent and if he had lived he would just be a better known legend but a legend just the same. He was great before the tragedy, the tragedy did not make him great.

@twainname Indeed, twainname. But I would remind that Nick, very little, was already playing songwriter, his mother and sister told, as you can see in interviews.

Mostly of what would be his "life style" is much more fantasy and especulation.

People use to create legends to fill their own things and maybe to fill some incapacity to look closely a genius like Nick and understand his work.

@twainname I completely agree. Even before I knew he was dead (I heard one song and looked him up and listened to a few songs) I told my father "He sounds incredible, maybe if he is touring we could see him in concert!"

I am not a girl named Joey nor a baby kangaroo...however sometimes when I am walking on the street in the afternoon...or the evening...I feel like if my name was Joey i would be more...something. I can't really put my finger on what I would be more of if my name was Joey, but I bet it would be really exciting. As far as kangaroos go, I think they are pretty good people.
