Horses are considered livestock. I know many of you have a sentimental value towards your horses as do I. However, with the reality of it all, slaughter is a neccessity. unfortunately it costs over $70,000 minus vet bills to care for a cabio if it lives 30 years. I agree there is irresponsible breeders out there, but I haven't seen any solutions from anti slaughter groups. The reason is it costs too much money and there are far few rescue and sanctuaries for these horses bound for slaughter.
the pic @ 1:16 really got me! its not gory but my friends colt 'monty' had to be put down a while back, he was shot to be put down, they asked for him to be cremeted and instead they found out his body had been sold for meat. they were furious, that pic really got me because they are all young horses like monty going for slaughter.... I was walking in the Cairngorm mountains today when I saw what looked like an Osprey, or perhaps some kind of eagle, it was very big. SO beautiful, with its sharp, noble looking beak, and huge fragile wings. So I shot it. And it now resides on my wall, above the fireplace.
one of my friends rides horses and owns about five and he would never even think about hurting his horses, he loves animals so much that he is studying to become a vet

No horses don't deserve this - and yes, horse slaughter is sad and every animal deserves a loving home - however, there are not enough homes available! Be realistic - not everyone wants or loves horses or any animal and when children are starving to death all over the world, it's obvious that horror will also be happening to animals. Stopping horse slaughter market indirectly causes horses to be starved to death. There has to be an outlet for lame, dangerous, untameable animals. Im not saying it doesnt happen to some good ones, but they are at peoples mercy. Same goes for dogs and cats. We cant find rescues for all of them. That are starving to death, being released to die miserably in the wild or whose owners are unwilling or unable to pay the high prices to put the horse down. Many of the unwanted horses are still being slaughtered, they are just being stuffed on a truck and sent to other countries to be butchered after being sold at auction, only to suffer greatly along the way.
If butchering were still legal in the US, the horses would still be able to die quickly and humanely, and zoos would still get cheap horse meat to feed their animals. this is a classic situation of unintended consequences. you idiots that think all horses are cute and great and cuddly forever and ever and ever petition and protest until horse slaughter is banned in the US, and now the horses are suffering much, much more than before. fools.

I'm not a kill buyer, I produce horses that go to loving homes way above the price range of a kill buyer. I understand the problem of the unwanted horse and back yard breeders. I understand that the ban of slaughter in the U.S has made things worse. Don't believe me? Look at what's happening to the horses being sent to Mexico. I use my horses, the very best stay here to work cows and the rest get sold to people to work cattle. That's in no way contributing to overpopulation.

That happens because of owner neglect not because of anything the slaughter plants do. I know first hand how tight the laws are for handling of any animals going into the plants and if there was any abuse the person doing it may even be arrested.

Horses are considered livestock. I know many of you have a sentimental value towards your horses as do I. However, with the reality of it all, slaughter is a neccessity. unfortunately it costs over $70,000 minus vet bills to care for a cabio if it lives 30 years. I agree there is irresponsible breeders out there, but I haven't seen any solutions from anti slaughter groups. The reason is it costs too much money and there are far few rescue and sanctuaries for these horses bound for slaughter.

the pic @ 1:16 really got me! its not gory but my friends colt 'monty' had to be put down a while back, he was shot to be put down, they asked for him to be cremeted and instead they found out his body had been sold for meat. they were furious, that pic really got me because they are all young horses like monty going for slaughter.... Be realistic - not everyone wants or loves horses or any animal and when children are starving to death all over the world, it's obvious that horror will also be happening to animals. Stopping horse slaughter market indirectly causes horses to be starved to death. There has to be an outlet for lame, dangerous, untameable animals. Im not saying it doesnt happen to some good ones, but they are at peoples mercy. Same goes for dogs and cats. We cant find rescues for all of them. In America, horses were fed and watered and could not be slaughtered unless they could walk in under their own power. Mexico houses are not as nice. That are starving to death, being released to die miserably in the wild or whose owners are unwilling or unable to pay the high prices to put the horse down. Many of the unwanted horses are still being slaughtered, they are just being stuffed on a truck and sent to other countries to be butchered after being sold at auction, only to suffer greatly along the way.

I understand that the ban of slaughter in the U.S has made things worse. Don't believe me? Look at what's happening to the horses being sent to Mexico. I use my horses, the very best stay here to work cows and the rest get sold to people to work cattle. That's in no way contributing to overpopulation.

That happens because of owner neglect not because of anything the slaughter plants do. I know first hand how tight the laws are for handling of any animals going into the plants and if there was any abuse the person doing it may even be arrested.
