Ubuntu - Compiz - AWN

ubuntu is so awesome, i installed on my netbook and i'm baffled to see that it runs ultra fast with desktop cube, transparencies and wobbling effects!

how did you make awn go in front of the windows? mine covers all the space under the screen

@ironmist Well i can really say how as i didn't do anything. It's just the default install without any extra configuration. Maybe this issue you're having is only present in the newer version of AWN as the video is kind of old.

Look at your cpu usage, 80% lol.

old pc, and also the video was recorded at 1024x768 so yes it's at ~80%

My videos are also at 1024X768 with a low DPI and I have 0% cpu usage... But thats with a 3ghz dual core, on my 1ghz 256mb system I get 30% cpu usage with the cube, same resolution. What kind of hard ware are you running??

you have to set it up in compiz manager if you dont have it in system->preferences set it up through synaptic

Yes nice video.The compiz effects are well known as well as the awn.Nothing new.But the combo of great music and a nice video produces a sweet result.Thats the difference in having good taste... and.. not...lol

I always thought that cube thingie and the wiggling windows are very distracting and confusing. Don't get me wrong, I love multiple desktops but displaying it on a cube is just wrong... The wiggly windows are cool but they slow you down. I can do without the wiggly bouncy .

It is a matter of taste. You can use "Desktop Wall" to make desktops to look like they are on a wall. And... slower? My 5 years old PC worked without issues, wile Vista's did not at all (even new laptop had problems)

Simple effects are standard like wooby windows,

but if you want it like this you need to install compiz-settings-manager and AWN, which is very easy on latest ubuntu version

wow this is GOOD man =) It's the way you've laid it out it's great - let's hope ubuntu and other distributions get some really good default layouts and setups in the future.
