Quebec parental insurance plan is the most generous program in Canada if you compare it to the one offer by Ottawa with EI: the percentage of the salary is higher, the amount of weeks too, and there is also paternity benefits for the father (3 or 5 weeks, depending of the plan choice). And unlike the EI program, the amount of hours worked before the birth is not looked at.
3- As for the numbers you're twisting around, you forgot a small detail: the transfers - CHT, CST, equalization - are on a PER CAPITA BASIS. Quebec represents a quarter of the Canadian population. So if you want to compare, have the decency to give the amount per person. If you did, you would have a totally different idea of the spending.
2- As for equalization, it's based on a formula that look at the fiscal capacity of five provinces. At the end, they manage to arrive at a magic number per capita. On this basis, they distribute the pot. EIGHT OUT OF THE TEN PROVINCES RECEIVED MONEY IN 2005-2006. Yes Ontario and Alberta didn't, but they should't accuse our programs for it. Again, the calculation is NOT BASED on the expenses, but on the revenues.
1 - EVERY province in Canada receive money from Ottawa, in a way or an other. For the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) and the Canada Social Transfer (CST), it's calculated on an EQUAL PER CAPITA BASIS and not on the needs. The fact our programs are more generous or numerous has NO incidence on these transfers. With this method, Alberta for example, with its lower unemployment rate, receive MUCH MORE money per person on social assistance then any other provinces.

Our 7 dollar daycare is in debt, our drug perscription plan is in debt and 1 year maternity leave is offered to all Canadians. Who is paying for all quebec social programs it's Ontario and Alberta and you want to separate? I suggest you take your numbers and go to a third party econommist and ask them could quebec make it on their own, minus the debt, minus the territory, minus the assets and payments from Canada they would tell you quebec would become 3rd world.
The reason why Quebec can spend so much money on social programs is becuase(summary) it sucks 45% of all equalization payments from Ottawa. You probably don't understand economics. You see all provinces put money in the Canadian pot and Quebec takes out more tax dollars than it put in. Of course your separatist schools won't tell you this. Therefore if Quebec did separate where would they get all the money to pay from their social programs.
Quebec made some choices every Quebeckers, french and english, are benefiting of. University education is less expensive, child care too (7$ per day!), we have the most generous program in Canada for women giving birth, our culture quebecoise is well alive if you compare to the canadian one (the american culture is crushing it), etc. Overall, the cost of life is lower and life is good. It's paid by OUR taxes. You don't like it? It's a free country and you can move elsewhere.
Doubling our effort on income tax collections costs 400 millions dollars, look it up, whereas the feds could do it for half the cost like in all other provinces Bottom line is Quebec is a socialist/communist state that feeds on Ontario and Alberta. Language and referendums have cost this province billions. Now next time you have to wait at the hospital look in the mirror. Next time you can't get a job look in the mirror. As for the income tax collection, I don't see the point. Quebec is collecting taxes for the services it deliveres. In counterpart, we pay less taxes to the federal government because Quebec took over some responsibilities (education, immigration, culture, etc). If the other provinces don't deal with Ottawa the same way, it's not our problem. Federalism is a union of self-governing states or provinces. Nothing new.
The language police is a myth. If there is an official complaint from the public concerning bill 101, there will be an inquiry. But no one is paid exclusively to search the streets and look for english signs. It's not a witch hunt.
In Quebec, language police $10 million, $15 million Quebec delegates worldwide, Quebec income tax collection $400 million (no other province has), 400,000 people in 30 years left quebec becuase of separation and language laws a loss of aprox $8 billion dollars per year in lost taxes not including loss of $8 billion in consumer spending. Quebec pisses money away while people are waiting for hip surgery ect...tomorrow it could be you! I can go on and on...

The private industry has to give the proper info on their product in a language everyone can understand. There is TWO official languages in Canada, not one. Instruction manuals, ingredients in food or medical products, bills, are very important and need to be understand. This IS a matter of health and security. If they selled there products in a foreign country, they would also have to deal with the language matter. That's not new, and that's not proper to Canada.
The numbers this guy gives were probaly found in an article published in the USA and fighting for english only (against spanish). But they were proven to be FALSE. From the info I managed to find, it cost about 250 millions per year to the federal government to offer bilingual services coast-to-coast (linguistic training, traduction, bonus for bilinguism, administration fees). That's about 3 cents per day per person, or 11$ per person per year. Wow, that will surely save the health system....

almost all my ancestors were from quebec, but i think the idea of spending money to promote a language is stupid. sure, the schools should offer french as an elective, and if individuals want to spend their own time and money encouraging it that's fine, but no one should be forced to support those things, and no one should be forced to speak a language.

The man on the video is an asshole: if the health care system is not going well in Canada, it's Ottawa's fault, not official bilinguism. During the last decade or so, Ottawa chose the refund of the national debt as a priority and cutted heavily in the transfers. The money the provinces didn't get was NOT put on bilinguism. Everybody in Canada, French and English Canadians, suffered from this choice made by the federal government. As for the astronomic amount this guy gives, it's a FUCKING LIE.

If there is a fine by the OLFQ, it's because there was an OFFICIAL COMPLAINT BY THE PUBLIC FIRST, and OLFQ simply reacted to it. Quebec parental insurance plan is the most generous program in Canada if you compare it to the one offer by Ottawa with EI: the percentage of the salary is higher, the amount of weeks too, and there is also paternity benefits for the father (3 or 5 weeks, depending of the plan choice). And unlike the EI program, the amount of hours worked before the birth is not looked at.

So if you want to compare, have the decency to give the amount per person. If you did, you would have a totally different idea of the spending.

On this basis, they distribute the pot. EIGHT OUT OF THE TEN PROVINCES RECEIVED MONEY IN 2005-2006. Yes Ontario and Alberta didn't, but they should't accuse our programs for it. Again, the calculation is NOT BASED on the expenses, but on the revenues.

1 - EVERY province in Canada receive money from Ottawa, in a way or an other. For the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) and the Canada Social Transfer (CST), it's calculated on an EQUAL PER CAPITA BASIS and not on the needs. The fact our programs are more generous or numerous has NO incidence on these transfers. With this method, Alberta for example, with its lower unemployment rate, receive MUCH MORE money per person on social assistance then any other provinces.

In regards to the language police or the office de la langue francaise Quebecois. It is no myth go to their website you can actually see the companies they have fined. Companies in the past have been fined for indoor silly hand written messages saying please turn off the airconditioning before you leave the store. Sounds made up but it isn't. Clifford Oswald was fined, he refused to pay his fine, then was threatend to take his drivers license away by the OLF.

The reason why Quebec can spend so much money on social programs is becuase(summary) it sucks 45% of all equalization payments from Ottawa. You probably don't understand economics. You see all provinces put money in the Canadian pot and Quebec takes out more tax dollars than it put in. Of course your separatist schools won't tell you this. Therefore if Quebec did separate where would they get all the money to pay from their social programs.

Quebec made some choices every Quebeckers, french and english, are benefiting of. University education is less expensive, child care too (7$ per day!), we have the most generous program in Canada for women giving birth, our culture quebecoise is well alive if you compare to the canadian one (the american culture is crushing it), etc. Overall, the cost of life is lower and life is good. It's paid by OUR taxes. You don't like it? It's a free country and you can move elsewhere.

As for the income tax collection, I don't see the point. Quebec is collecting taxes for the services it deliveres. In counterpart, we pay less taxes to the federal government because Quebec took over some responsibilities (education, immigration, culture, etc). If the other provinces don't deal with Ottawa the same way, it's not our problem. Federalism is a union of self-governing states or provinces. Nothing new.

The private industry has to give the proper info on their product in a language everyone can understand. There is TWO official languages in Canada, not one. Instruction manuals, ingredients in food or medical products, bills, are very important and need to be understand. This IS a matter of health and security. If they selled there products in a foreign country, they would also have to deal with the language matter. That's not new, and that's not proper to Canada.

The numbers this guy gives were probaly found in an article published in the USA and fighting for english only (against spanish). But they were proven to be FALSE. From the info I managed to find, it cost about 250 millions per year to the federal government to offer bilingual services coast-to-coast (linguistic training, traduction, bonus for bilinguism, administration fees). That's about 3 cents per day per person, or 11$ per person per year. Wow, that will surely save the health system....
