ohh i saw this game. wasim was mocking arnold. pak was losing & the desperately need a breakthrough. wasim tried to break the concentration of russel. the commendatory pointed out wasim mocking. after that when russel got 50, wasim was the one to clap first for him. then he got his wicket. thanks for sharing it. good memories lol
Not necessarily. Waqar used to get hammered quite a bit (more than Wasim) and there were plenty of games when the duo gave away lots of runs and failed to defend high scores.
@rajnikantsharma I would agree with mr sharma here. Both wasim and waqar are slightly over rated. In my opinion Imran Khan at his peak was better than both. Around 89 Imran had become more of a medium pacer slash batting all rounder. His last good series was against windies in 88. Fast bowling is hard work and waqar did not seem inclined to put in extra effort. Wasim on the ohter hand is amongst the top ten but not in the top three.
All cricketers including Imran are over-rated because we judge them on their past/few performances rather than consistency throughout their careers. For me, Wasim and Waqar were/are among the best but I rank Wasim higher than Waqar for his consistency. I personally consider Wasim to be best.
My remark about the duo getting hammered was not because they were over-rated but because someone here seemed to suggest that they were always effective - no one is. BTW, Imran was a lousy fielder!
@rajnikantsharma In my opinion imran was consistently effective as a fast bowler till the 88 west indies series. All crickets are over rated, some more so than others. Wasim was certainly more versatile . Waqar lost focus mid 90s thereabouts and didn´t work hard enough to merit a place amongst the top five fast bowlers of all time. Roberts, Holding, Lillee, Marshall, Imran in no particular order is how I see it.
Except for Imran and Marshall, I have few memories of Roberts and Holding and saw them (and all of Lillee) mostly on replayed telecasts. So, having watched the latter three mostly on highlights, I am not in a position to judge their ball-to-ball mastery but I have seen plenty of Wasim and his 'contemporaries' including Imran and Marshall. Among other things, I believe that Wasim was the most resilient (probably unmatched) under pressure and thats where he gets my vote.
i remember there was match between pakistan and AUS,pakistan made 150,and still pakistan won that match,i was very young at that time, but still remember it
@NaniBen mashallah double happiness, cricket match and offcourse the best of all Hajj. i think i was about the same age at that time, i am 24 now, it was simply quality bowling, shows that whatever team you are, how your batting is , pakistan fast bowling is too good for you.
What a deadly Bowling Line Pakistan Had... Seamers like Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib, Spinners like Mushtaq and Saqlain and Alrounders like Azhar Mehmood and Razzaq... What a dream team it was... All leagends in the same team...
look at Pakistan's total - 239 .. and Wasim got this wicket to make it 15/2 .. it must have put them under some pressure and i bet Pakistan probably won this game... Ah our team them days used to be so different / stronger.. we could defend the scores of 230s/ 240s maybe even 220s at times because we had great bowlers like Wasim/Waqar giving it all.. i miss them days!
Best fast bowler for you Pakistanis..and you still love Shaoib retard Akthar after he fought with Wasim. SHame on you guys.
