Thats has been there for years. the plant is good for the city, I turned out ok. Became a pilot in the Navy, and achieved the Silver Star. dont be fuckin with Granite city.
Granite City has been a steel town for over a hundred years, the city was built to be an iron works company town by the Nidringhaus brothers back then. How do you not know that steel production is not environmentaly friendly. Why would you move somewhere that sits under the shadow of a blast furnace? Why would you live there if that bothers you? If you don't like it you should probably move.
We're moving over to granite in december. Where are the steel mills? We're going to live down route 3 off of rock road. I figure they're close but how close?
Well Rock Rd. isn't right next to the mill but that doesn't mean much. What does is, that the prevailing wind comes from the west and you would be out of the path. But there are factories all over the place around here. Stein Steel, Heidtman Steel, American Steel, Precoat Metals, and yes Granite City Steel are all based here. You would be closest to American Steel.
I was stationed at the Granite City Engineer Depot 1955 1956 and it stunk bad back then. Some kind of factory heading toward Niedringhouse. What ever happened to the Depot? Is this plant near there?
Okay I live here too and if people were really worried about raising their children and hazards and such THEY WOULD MOVE THE FUCK OUT OF HERE. Seriously it's been an industrial city for over 100 years and I don't see any of the steel plants or factories shutting down soon. People that work at those jobs live here and far away, so seriously get out if you can't handle it. =] Move to Edwardsville or something.
Hiii.....Its Hannah, a honest and down to earth woman who wants to meet new guys for dating etc if u fancy a trial run with me heheheh catch me on - Play-Cam _dot_ COM -
I live in Granite City and I don't even live near the mill but, I go to spots near the mill and I have breathed the Granite City air all my life. If you don't know that place is what keeping town going and if it shuts down you can kiss over $4 million in tax money. Also if you don't like what going on leave Granite and don't let the door hit you on the way out cause you are not a person who is not a true person of the city. Also the current Mayor is going a good job and we are not dead still.
I grew up right by this, its been this way for years. If you dont have asthma you will if you live near one of these piles. It may not show it at first but years down the line the children do pay. Thanks for the video
Those are the Dumb asses that wanted to live behind the mill and O Rielys.

i am 33, and lived right across the street off 21st...
I can remember helpin my dad scrub the crap outta our car, and havin little tar(?) bits all over everything.
Even back as a kid it was bad..& i can clearly remember some says lookin outside...and the sky nearly black from all the pollution.
even with all the fond memories of Granite as a kid..
the only semi-clean homes are all the ones on the other side of town.
sad.
Granite is dying.
