Still, the US is not as great as it thinks it is. There are serious issues within this country that capitalism will not resolve.

How does capitalism bring freedom to these people? To me, it looks like their land is exploited for all its worth, while the everyday people suffer.

Socialism in every way sucks big time. watching hugo chavez rape its citizens of property is disgusting. police, military, fire, and medicine should all be available to all US citizens regardless of their income. these are non-profit and should remain that way because these are basic fundamental rights to every us citizen. many industrial countries help 3rd world countries by investing in their natural resources that they would never have the technology to retrieve. it's a symbiotic relationship

It's not about socialism. It's about nationalizing Nigeria's oil. You're thinking in a very absolute American paradigm - socialist/capitalist, with us/against us, liberal/conservative.

America's roads are nationalized. America's military is nationalized. Yet America isn't a socialist country. There are no absolute socialist or capitalist countries. This is about individual instances that might work better for specific countries. No all or none. No black/white.

America is a socialist country. We have collectivized roads as you point out but also Medicaid, Medicare, social security, minimum wages, etc plus regulated almost everything. Within the states; socialized education, rent controls, etc. plus another layer of licensing and regulation.

It is not black and white as you point out, it is a sliding scale. What I am pointing out is that the socialized parts of the economy always under perform.

More socialism = more failure.

Norway & Holland are far more socialized than USA. Yet there is more failure in USA. It's not socialism that = failure. It's corruption.

The socialist democracy of Norway works better than USA's capitalism. Yet, the capitalism of Japan works better than the socialism of Brazil. -All democracies.

Corruption is corruption, private or nationalized. However, efficient govts like Norway's are surely preferable to the situation that foreign privatization is exacting on much of Africa.

stratvic, No place is completely capitalist. Switzerland is more socialized than USA & works better. There are other factors - corruption, debt, crime, natl resources... lobbying by private companies. Corrupt govts = failure. Corrupt pvt companies = failure & dictatorship by foreign, phantom, unelectable boards of directors. Norway is more successful that *more* capitalist USA. Nigeria is suffering because of private individuals exploiting her. Exploitation comes in all denominations.

Corrupt govt = societal failure.

Corrupt private business = bankruptcy and sale.

Violent government = societal failure.

Violent private actor = criminal.

US is 1 of most capitalist countries. As pure capitalism doesn't work anywhere, I go by what does. The wealthiest countries (gdp per capita) are far more socialist than the US. They still have lots of private industry. So it should be case-by-case & not absolute. A country under siege by wealthy foreigners needs to protect its natural resources the same way Iran protects hers. If Venezuela were subject to Shell, the govt would have to do what the West wanted just to eat (see above video).

Norway, Switzerland are wealthier, healthier & safer than USA and have a greater amount of socialism. Most economies are mixed. This isn't about absolutes or 'sides,' it's about a specific issue.

All other factors being equal, Iran's socialized oil allows her to retain her profits. Nigeria's privatized oil profits are sucked out of the country leaving them to wait in long lines for something their country produces. When it comes to oil, Nigeria could benefit from Iran's model
