.simply pulled aside and another 'body' thrown into position, eventually the 'meat waggon', a converted golf cart with a board would arrive; the unconscious worker would then be loaded on to it and taken to an air conditioned room to recover, then once more back to the line. The workforce turnover was almost 80%, it was so hellish, the ones who stuck it out are those who stayed for the benefits, yet radio talk hosts who never have done an honest day's work in their lives are the biggest critics.
Being a tool and die maker I am very familiar with stamping plants, and believe me I have seen operations in the United States that closely rivaled what was shown here not so very long ago.
I witnessed poor production workers standing in front of large presses when the summer temperature was in the nineties and the temperature in the plant was over a hundred due to the heat from the press motors in the basement. I saw those poor souls turn white and collapse. They were simply.... continued.....
My theory is that these people set this press up and are proud of what they have done, and posted it on the web. I would have to say that these folks are doing this with no ill intention. They are only attempting to get the job done. Our governments MUST demand that worker safety and environmental regulations must be standard globally to trade globally. Companies and American citizens who are party to this behavior should face criminal penalties with jail being a given.
No, Ken, this wasn't videoed or posted here by the people who own or run the press. The video was taken by a person with no affiliation to the factory at all.
Still a valid comment though. These guys are more than likely thinking that this is normal. It's either this, or find a job somewhere else. We shouldn't laugh - but can you imagine a husband telling his wife at home "I told you before - don't call me a work, I need to focus on my job!!"
You do not need to have worked, as I have, in an American Stamping plant to see the outragous abuse of these workers. No civilized nation can complete with criminals regimes who would allow this. These abuses will continue until Americans apply pressure on our government, and on the american companies who care more about profit margins than basic human rights. These are large presses. I can imagine that they would consider using children in the smaller ones.
I have run those kind of machines...this video give me nightmares!
