Losing Power steering is the worst thing to happen in a race car! i've lost is 3 times now in the past few years, you cant lift ur arms after a 25lap race. Good work out for your arms though! haha
The only thing worse than losing the power steering is having erratic power steering that comes and goes.
His car had a gear drive p/s pump connected to a power take off on the bellhousing....
Turned out, it had the wrong gearset in it (worked fine sitting still in the pits), but on the track it would come and go (mostly go away) because the pump was turning too slowly.
The worst part of that is he'd sporadically get a half-second of assist when he was really "leaning" on the wheel
This was early spring, temp in the high 30's and after a week of rain; it's amazing that they got the track into that good of condition that day.
The point was, though, that this is a thirteen year old kid that had never been on a track with more than 30 horsepower (karts, quarter-midgets, minicups), driving a Late Model for the first time (and with screwed up steering), and getting around the track like he'd been doing it for years.
Holy hell, only 13 and already in a latemodel? Lol I didn't step from gokarts to latemodels until I was 23. It get's expensive though...I started with 1 car and one engine, now I have 5 complete cars and 7 engines. Stick with it!
