Watching your videos made me want to adopt a mynah bird but aren't they illegal to keep in the US? My boyfriend and I have been together for years and aren't able to have children. Unable to have a dog or a cat either, he's deathly allergic. :( Are there any other birds similar to a mynah?
I LOVE mynahs! What a cutie! We had one when I was a child and his cage was next to the water cooler and he could imitate the sound of the gurgle perfectly. He also called us just like my mother and imitated her sneezing and blowing her nose.
@Hornadayfan I use to walk out with him all the time.. one time he was spooked and flew to the nearby park. The next morning he was in the neighbors yard calling my dog "Jack come here". I climbed on the roof and he immediately flew over to my head, got on my shoulder and stayed glued to me as I climbed down the ladder into the house. He now likes to sun in his large cage outside and I am in the process of adding a screen patio/aviary he can fly in and out of whenever he wants
@emmaMcemma I talked to him all the time along with lots of freedom and love. They are highly intelligent and a HUGE commitment. Not the best pet bird as cute as he is. I had planned on releasing him but he had a bad leg. He definitely is unique
@J3D000 Thank you for your interest ...He IS a special little guy...I have tons of video yet not enough time to sort through it all. I will try and get some new ones up soon
@meloearth I have tons of video yet not enough time to sort through it all. I will try and get some new ones up. He has flown to the park near us and come home each time. Right now when he is outside he is in a cage... free in the house. I am adding an aviary to the side of the house for him
Just wondering... Parrots can not only repeat phrases, but can use them to communicate with their owner in their own way, like saying 'bombs away' when it has to go to the bathroom... Do mynah birds do that too? Or is it only mimicking?
@Aerostryker2 They do mimic but there is no doubt he communicates. He associates action and phrases. When I walk out he says "Be right Back" When the dogs run outside barking at something he calls them with "come here" .When he is hungry he asks for Papaya etc...
@cmhhawaii I lived on Oahu for a few years and would always see birds like that but they looked like they were wearing masks, are they the same? I havnt seen one close enough before
I a planning on buying one. I am so excited. I would love to talk to u about what its like first hand on owning a mynah bird. My email is jess_27061@hotmail.com
i rescued a baby mynah wen he was one week old...nw he's one and a half months and so adorable....i cant imagine how people can talk abt killing thm because they are pests.....if thats the case then ppl shud b frst in the list...lets not forget our wonderful contribution to global warming.
@Porcelanesa It's basically a "I heard this, and this is how I should respond" type of situation. He's taught one thing, then he's taught how he's supposed to respond to that situation. Then again, you could learn it on his known. It's a very intelligent bird, for that matter!
AND his wings are unclipped...so he is with his ''person'' because he WANTS to be, not because he has no choice...he could fly away if he wanted..this ia a rare relationship..we had a ''pet'' crow who lived in 2,000 acres, but visited when he felt like it.He was never caged either.
This bird is obviously so happy and healthy and gets masses of freedom, this is how birds should be kept, with as much freedom as possible, and attention. Cages are a no no for true bird happiness.
Dear cmhhawaii, can you please let us all know how little Kaleo is today?- Could you please video him taking a 'bubble bash'?-and generally strutting his stuff?- we await impatiently to see him again- his Aussie fanclub xxx
what can I say, but that I'm soo in love with you, Little Kaleo! Your Mum just brings out all your talents and the love you have for her is enviable-keep it up, sweet little Kaleo XXXOOO
"Whatcha Tink?" I think he's so cute... and so bright!!! He makes my African Grey look simple...lol Well done, he's obviously well loved and well cared for to have learned as much as he has. Bravo!!!
I'm a homeschooler and we're studying all the animals created on the 5th Day of Creation - flying animals. So, we learned about different birds being able to make different sounds based on the number of muscles in their necks. I remembered the Mynah Bird that was on the Best of Johnny Carson video and how awesome it was, so looked it up and found Kaleo! We watch him all the time now - it's precious.... Looking forward to more videos of Kaleo!
Thank you so much for posting the new videos! You have some fan club...I send these to everyone! Kaleo's inflection when he said "all right" at the end is the most precious part. Your relationship with him is the most admirable, I can feel the love and connection. What a joy he is and he is lucky to have you!
At 1:37 Watcha doing little duck... quack, quack, quack. I'm a Chicken!!! That is so hilarious...
