  • There is Avatar 2 (2014) & Avatar 3 (2015) his future plan movie..checked in wikipedia.

  • The music is taken from the "Logan's Run" soundtrack. I have it on my HDD ;-)

  • did cameron do the drawings for this?

  • @boogiebuddy01 What I've picked up from a T1 documentary is that James Cameron really gets what he wants in a film. As a director with a vision, that's what he should do, and it's what we can expect from him. So yes, I'm sure Cameron did the drawings.

  • What I find amazing is that Cameron basically taught himself how to use the equipment while making this film. It's an impressive short film.

  • I see Aliens in this film

  • @CALASANZIO I half expected the woman in the mechanical spider to scream "Stay away from him you bitch!"

  • Music is from "Logan's Run."

  • James Cameron should make movies faster ! Damn... this dude's killing me!

  • anyone that says "James cameron sucks" is obviously a child with no knowledge of anything. He is a revolutionary director. He started out like this and adapted to the new technology, even the "young hip directors" WISH they could match to him. He has grown with Hollywood and is a brilliant mind. I can in all honesty say if you dont agree with me you dont know anything.

  • @TheOriginalNightHawk Just because Cameron went on to create these amazing films... that doesn't mean everything he's touched is a golden egg. In fact, Piranha Two was terrible... true, it wasn't entirely his fault, but still... not everything associated with James Cameron is great.

  • @favoritemoviemoments That is very true, every great director does have its up and downs but when people say "James Cameron Sucks" they obviously dont know anything.

  • @TheOriginalNightHawk They can hate him all they want. It won't stop him from making the movies we like. Sometimes, it's best just to let these whiners complain and dig their own pit.

  • @favoritemoviemoments Lol your right no point in arguing with a 13 year old obese ruenscape player

  • Does anyone else see the robot as the prototype to WALL-E.

  • I love seeing how cameron intergrates his old work with terminator

  • Are the opening credits written in the later Terminator font?

  • If anyone wants to insult a director? aim it at Michael bay because he truely SUCKS at film making! talented directors like Cameron knows how to use effects and tell a story together :)

  • Can't help but notice the similarities between Laurie and the android thing she is driving and the robotics in Avatar.

As bad as it is, it still has JC written all over it. He is a legend.

  • OMG Theres the father of the hunter killer tank.

  • what is the 70s show guy doing here?

  • does this make anyone else think of Mass Effect. I mean, gone for 50 000 years, and something that keeps the place clean... sounds like the citadel. maybe this is where Bioware got the idea.

  • Cameron should remake this for his next movie. Forget Avatar 2.

  • 1:54 , is that an avatar woman ? lmao damn she's huge

  • It's looks a bit like the WALLE

  • lol :D

the prototype of the terminator "tank" ^^

  • If I didn't know better I'd say that Tron ripped off this film. Actually still not sure. THX for posting.

  • loloolol

  • who drew the paintings?

  • Are you sure?

  • @phongbong

    yeah

  • cameron

  • Damit thats better than Avatar!!!

  • It's great to see his early work. I've never seen this before.

    Thanks !

  • Fascinating!

  • Cameron is cool, but this is pretty bad.

  • This was made for $20,000 in 1978 out of Cameron's garage basically. There were no home computers, no internet, and if you wanted to learn how to do special effects you basically had to teach yourself (and again, there was NO CGI and NO digital editing stations back then).

  • That stop motion was pretty damn good.

  • And I STILL wouldn't know how to shoot special effects like this with today's resource lol

  • Awesome

  • the original ground hk

    3:13

  • LOL, I was thinking exactly the same thing.

  • Weirdfilms33, T3 was made by Jonathan Mostow, not Ratner.

You should really check the imdb man

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, OK, my bad, sorry, I just got mixed up - X3 (which was directed by Ratner) was a threequel which paled in comparison to X-Men and X2 - similarly how T3 was not as good as The Terminator and T2

  • James Cameron is a LEGEND! One more time for emphasis LEGEND!

  • RETARDED!

  • Er, no... James Cameron turned out to be one of the world's best Directors. Terminator 1 and 2, Aliens, Titanic and Avatar are all under his credit... like you could do any better.

  • @WetKant he did direct titanic

  • @WetKant i did he directed titanic

  • @WetKant he directed terminator 1 and 2 aliens true lies titanic and the abyss and the upcoming new movie avatar

  • Wetkant I only said he directed Terminator 1 and 2. Terminator Salvation was the prequel, and the fourth Terminator film made. And Titanic was obviously directed by Cameron - look it up on IMDB. I can't understand why you're being such a fool, you go do your homework and stop watching pathetic twilight movies

  • Comment removed

  • @Weirdfilms33 you are so right

  • @Weirdfilms33 Uh... Brett Ratner? Are you sure it wasn't Jonathan Mostow? Somehow, I think you've got X3 and T3 mixed up.

  • @Weirdfilms33 Brett Ratner? He had nothing to do with Terminator.

  • @ThatGuyAdrianLF Yes, I know, I got him mixed up with Jonathan Mostow (they both directed crappy threequels so it was a simple mix-up). Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

  • @Weirdfilms33 It's fine; for a second I thought you mixed up X-Men: TLS with T3. No prob. :)

  • @Weirdfilms33 - I'll have a bash at an answer. It is supply and demand. The biggest market is 15 to 20 year olds and they want to watch things exploding so Hollywood makes that for them. If more adults went to the movies there would be more decent movies for us to watch.

  • @Weirdfilms33 Brett Ratner didnt do T3 you dumb ass, it was Jonathan Mostow.

  • @aseddon130 As I have clearly clarified several times in the comments, it was an innocent mistake I made. I was probably tired or something when I wrote it.

  • @Weirdfilms33 brett ratner didnt direct rise of the machines you dumb fucking cunt, jonathan mostow did you dumb fuck

  • @mhammer1777 Oh for goodness sakes, I sorted this out two years ago. It was a simple mistake made on my part. Now go start using proper grammar, get yourself off unemployment benefits and stop swearing.

  • @Weirdfilms33 unemployment benefits? lolololololol

  • @WetKant cameron directed terminator 1 and 2,aliens,true lies,and titanic

and know avatar and he directed pirahnas 2 the spawning he dosnt take credit for it though cause of bad reviews

  • @WetKant james cameron directed titanic leo just played in it

  • @WetKant HOW DARE YOU INSULT JAMES CAMERON he is a legend he directed many great movies

terminator 1 and 2,aliens,titanic and avatar

  • year 1978... great!

  • MrYayTv you are an idiot.

  • MrYayTv I second that you are an idiot.

  • Why don't you actually WATCH IT first then, like the rest of us have SMARTLY done

  • @thehappysock "I'm not STOOPID" Sounds like you are. Have you even seen Avatar?

  • Ive seen blue aliens here -NAVIs?

  • STUDENT PROJECT???

  • The artwork is by James cameron himself.

  • he is such a great director and a painter lol i think it looks pretty real i love james cameron

  • "they made him a machine trained to deliver humanity from the final cataclysm"

so even then he was ripping off Demon With A Glass Hand

  • He made this short film with his two friends, Randy Frakes and Williams Wisher (an aspiring actor - he the lead in this). Story goes that Wisher raised the money from a group of rich dentists who wanted to invest in a film as a tax shelter. Cameron and Frakes wrote the story. The three then found a small studio space to make the film. They built the models and sets themselves. They couldn't get the camera to work, so they took it apart and "backwards engineered" it to make it work. 2/4

  • The problem was a safety trip lever. When they returned the camera, they asked the rental store about it to which they explain exactly what they had discovered on their own. The opening paintings are by Cameron himself. Cameron used this short demo-film to land a job at Roger Coreman's New World Pictures. He took in this film as well as the models as his portfolio for his interview. Cameron and Wisher later wrote Terminator together. Wisher plays the cop who's car the T-800 steals. 3/4

  • Wisher also worked with Cameron on T2 and played the shopping mall tourist that snaps the photos of the T-800 after the T1000 throws him through the store window. Randy Frakes wrote the novelisation of T2. The sources for this info come from the book FOUR SCREENPLAYS by Syd Field, in which he interviews Cameron, and the TERMINATOR Special Edition DVD. 4/4

  • gee!

    It looks pretty cool!

But is this really a student film?, I heard that Cameron never studied movie-making.

  • hey man, he actually majored in physics and english at CSU (university), Although he never took film, he was always in the UCLA university film department whenever he had free time.

  • okey dokey.

  • Terminator connections for sure here! and i'm betting some of these ideas, or concepts.. find a life in AVATAR as well.

  • i guess the moral of this story is to become famous and rich

  • You can't even spell, stop spreading lies about one of the most influential film directors... EVER!!!!!

  • I have some questions...what college did he attend way back when, when he made this? Did cameron do all the stop motion himself? Who built the robot models? This is like, seriously, one of the most advanced student productions I have been introduced to...In my opinion, way better than the much talked about student film of George Lucas which became THX 1138...granted, Lucas made that one in 1968, but come on...to create something this advanced in '78 as a student!! The bar is set VERY high by JC

  • James Cameron is a god, thank you so much for posting this!

  • Does anyone know who owns the rights to this film? I'm working on a doc and would love to use it.

  • when the robots arms are moving, there is no question that cameron is using stop motion

  • wow never seen this before!! thank you!!!

  • I knew ´bout this short, but I can´t figure out how Cameron attained the FX´s as an amateur. Stop motion? no idea. Any way, more interesting and surprising than I thought i might be.
