It's actually a real easy problem to solve. It's more of a frequency problem and not so much a language problem as all current research seems to think it is. No current research I've been able to find is working this direction. Or perhaps it's already been done and the public just hasn't been informed. again... WHY ?
I like this video because it shows how intelligent they really are and don't deserve to be in captivity. I consider myself lucky to have experienced this bond myself without ever having been a trainer or worked for a park. I got the chance to get to know four Orcas that were in Sea World's Dolphin Petting Pool some years ago. That is one of them in my photo. I've also been involved in several communications projects and we have the technological ability to talk to them but we aren't. WHY ?
Thanks for uploading this it's lovely to see how brilliant the trainers are with the Orca's I do believe they should have never been taken from the wild :( but at least they seem to treat them very very well x
Waterwork needs to come back. We can not let this kind of interaction get taken away. We need to convince OSHA to let SeaWorld trainers back in the water with their Orcas. Please sign this petition and pass it around
this is so mean i hate aquariums 8( ! i cant believe this is were they have to spend the rest of their lives in that little tank never to go back to the ocean 8( i would go insane ! poor animals put on display these trainers are lame ! and it is wrong what they are doing !
@LitasBikinisMiami suure lets just let these animals back into the wild, totally doesnt matter that they havent learnt any survival tactics since theyve been raised around people who love them and exercise them... just stfu.
yep i went to sea wolrd one day orcas were awsome to me so i was like yep this is for me but then orca kills trainer um nope changed my mind well i got marine biology
are there any videos of humans swimming with orcas with an underwater camera? i really want to see it so far ive only been able to see orcas on there own underwater not with a person.
what is cool to think about is that she is swimming with an orca and is probably loving it but the orca is swimming with a human and is probably also loving it, the way she dives off so gracefully i bet the orca is also thinking wow what a wonderful creature (somehow) :)
Absolutely AM-A-ZING!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this video!! Ever since I was about 14 years old I wanted to be an Orca trainer, but my life took a different course. I am 27 years old now with two children and one on the way. I can't get enough of Orcas. They are truely a gift....no words to express how I feel about this majestic creature. I just hope to touch one one day. Thank you again for this behind the scenes footage! It mad my heart melt <3 <3 <3
Okay, let me wipe my eyes....that was FABULOUS!!! So amazingly beautiful. I can't imagine what kind of job that would be to look so forward to doing on a regular basis. wow. I have a question...at the end it says 'rip katrina'. I don't keep up on these things, but Im asuming it was for the whale. How and when did she die? That was my only question. Thanks for the awesome video!
@tami4497 Kalina, the whale seen doing the hydro hop and the rocket hop, died last year on October 5th. She died of a bacteria infection. She was a beautiful animal
@ShamuTrainerG sorry, I meant Kalina. Thanks for the answer. That's too bad. She was a very beautiful animal. She sure was given alot of love. How awesome for them all.
can you tell me when this was filmed, cause i know that dawn lady was killed by the killer whale, and they started not lettting the trainers in the water with them... but are they allowed in my water with them now?
@Honeyreed1 I don't think the current show has the trainers in the water - as far as I know they've got plans to build a platform on the bottom of the tank that can be raised in less than a minute to the surface of the water, so if something goes wrong they can just lift the trainers (and whales) straight up and deal with the problem, think they're waiting 'till that's done before they go back to swimming with them :)
3:10 the trainer says to the beginner that she will be doing this move in 5 years time... Only after the Dawn Tragedy that doesn't apply now does it?? as the trainers arnt allowed in the water with the whales... am i correct??
@151megz well they weren't allowed in the water for sometime till the investigation was done. But it shouldn't apply, as they say, the show must go on.
@151megz Slightly correct. SeaWorld has to make changes to their Shamu Stadium in order for them to be able to get back in. The problem is, one of those changes is the floor must be able to lift up and surface in I think under a minute. Which would mean closing down the Stadium to re do the floor.
@turywury She actually is in this video =] She is the lady doing the porp with the farther away whale at 4:54, and she is the lady on the right from 4:58 to 5:17.
@p0gothem0nkey Neither is Deepwater Horizon dumping thousands of gallons of oil into the Gulf. Captivity has tradeoffs. Education and conservation being only a few
omg.. 36 UNDER the water.. thats a long way down... the actual trust and dependence the trainers have towards these creatures.. i wanna cry ;[ so COOL!!
This is what im going to college to do someday ... ive started crying watching these videos because they are so amazing and i want to be there in the water with the whales so bad ... congrats on getting the job ... you a very lucky person :)
@eightbelow11 meaning ur a person that works at seaworld orlando, florida? thats awsome i like orcas and that's my dream becoming a porca trainer at seaworld orlando, florida. i live in singapore a small island but my dream is flying there and becoming an orca trainer working well with(i mean if i could) katina if lauren allows me to. haha
@BrookeandBuds So am I, Brook. I am actually in college now to go to Psychology. I know you need a degree in Child Psychology but they have a major in child psychology, so I'd have to go and get a full psychology degree, but its that bad. Its only 4years and I need to also get scuba certified and all that jazz. But I am one step closer ^^
She can't get into the water with them anymore..hahahaha Hope she enjoyed that act of selfishness while she could..I laugh at all of you dream team knee pad fans!
For about 16 years of my life I was pro-cap. One summer studying these amazing animals in the wild (the northern residents, including Corky's sister) has completely changed my views. These magnificent, intelligent animals do not belong in a tank. Sure, SW has taught many people to love these animals, but they need to learn about them for the right reasons. Start a program to teach people about them in the wild. Stop breeding them and let them die off naturally (releasing them would never work).

Unlike you I don't separate cruelty by severity. Cruelty is cruelty. You imprison them for entertainment. They belong free in the ocean that covers 70% of the planet, not a pool. Keep convincing yourself what your doing is ok so you can sleep at night. I wish you could be them for a day and understand. If I locked you up in a tiny space relative to you natural territory but made sure you were fed and worked until you die. I wonder if you would then feel the same.
4 orcas have died in the last 4 months in seaworld. Living in a bath tub, having an artificial diet and living in chemically treated water in an environment that puts tremendous stress on their bodies, no orca in captivity has lived the age of 40, in the wild they live to be 60-80 years old.
SeaWorld has spent decades trying to convince the world that, such a creature belongs in small concrete tanks. The evidence has been mounting for at least 25 years that this is flatly untrue.
I have wanted to do this job my whole life! To be with my favorite animal every day of my life is like the jackpot to me. Even though i want all the orcas to be free and in the wild they can't. I feel bad. But either way studying them in the wild or being a trainer in seaworld i would die for a job like this it would be so fricking amazing. I wanted to be a orca trainer when i took my 1st step in shamu stadium and saw this amazing animal i have a had a thing for orcas since i was two years old<3
so very very selfish of those people to keep that orca in a tank just so they can fullfill their dreams of swimming with an orca. What about the Orcas dream of going home where they can swim far and hunt and be with their family, this girl disgusts me! SELFISH
@strangelittlegirl27 Wow, and I think you're sad. That Orca's family is with her, at SeaWorld and her trainers. How closed minded of you. In a perfect world, yeah, we could leave the Orca's in the wild, but in a perfect world there wouldn't be 7 billion people on the planet, most of whom would never have the chance to see an Orca if it weren't for these places. So stop being selfish, pay for us to go the wild and see them.
@elfwhitewave she probably does but why would she let people ride on her if she didnt trust them or didnt want to when she could kill them in a heartbeat?
@elfwhitewave no thats actually not true the whales get all of their food regardless of if they perform or not.. the whales are not food driven they vary up the reinforcers so occasionally yes they do get food as a reinforcer but its not a meal its a treat or snack.. and still do you think thats enough motivation for a killer whale?
This video just ABSOLUTELY takes my breath away!!!!. How lucky after so much hard work for THIS young trainer, and others to get to experience getting into the water for the first time with this MAGNIFICENT killer whale. I REALLY appreciate the trainers point of not only being coordinated and confident but HUMBLE, NEVER forgetting that you're working with the ocean's TOP predator. This is my job, ONLY IN MY DREAMS. ; D
@Nicole123654 Actually The Dorsal Fin Is made out of tissue and when orcas tend to be out of the water alot or float in the water with their dorsal fin out thats when the gravity starts pulling down their fin and it doenst even hurt them or they cant even feel it .
@Nicole123654 Online is certainly always reliable and I won't even comment on you "went somewhere" Where do you think they got their information from? Lol. Everyone has seen Free Willy.
hopefully this will be me in a couple of years time! doing a major animal husbandry minor marine biology so hopefully, one day i'll persue this dream!<3
Nooo , haha i just love seaworld and have a passion 4 orcas . But also i have a video i took at The underwater viewing and a girl talks about the steps of the test
Nooo , haha i just love seaworld and have a passion 4 orcas . But also i have a video i took at The underwater viewing and a girl talks about the steps of the test
@sophie8739 u have to have strong swimming skills (part of the interview process is a rigorous swim test that includes a 200 ft. freestyle swim, a 100 ft. underwater swim with no breaths, and a free-dive to the bottom of a 26 ft. pool.) and a microphone test also. because u will be interacting with the audience
i'm anti cap and of course i dont believe they beat the animals (as do most peple who are anti cap aswell), i'm sure the trainers love them.
i am anti cap because as a species they just dont do well in captivity, they cant be kept in anything resembling a natural habbitat and their social groups cant be matained how they should.
its antropomorphic to think the whales 'love' the trainers, if that was true, there would not have been so many attacks would there?
@2cute24get11 Exactly - why???:)) Dear 2cute...: why not to take the challenge and to "make a strong bond with these amazing, beautiful, and incredibly intelligent animals" in their natural habitat - not forcing them into your relationship. A beautiful communication of two independently intelligent divine creatures:)
i would do anythingto have a job like that i cant wait!!! ..it just seems so many people want 2 and theres such a little chance of getting the job :,(
@SamberPetz You're very welcome, good luck, another college i recomend going to is Moorpark college. and apply to do the exotic animal training this is an american teaching zoo and is widely publicized by Sea World. Also remember to start to gain experience while in school. Vets, rescue centers are the best places to start out once gained experience apply at zoos and aquariums. Hope this helped :)
I've always wanted to be an orca trainer. I've just always been so scared to just even try it....and then I heard about Dawn's death, and I realized that life is too short, so better go for it! It's an unfortunate thing to happen, but if it wasn't for Dawn's inspiration, I would probably never get to do what I've always wanted to do!
What are the chances of someone becoming an orca trainer?

Florida Fanactic she was conditioned to act this way, this is probably all she has ever known....SAD
strangelittlegirl27 1 year ago
so very very selfish of those people to keep that orca in a tank just so they can fullfill their dreams of swimming with an orca. What about the Orcas dream of going home where they can swim far and hunt and be with their family, this girl disgusts me! SELFISH
strangelittlegirl27 1 year ago
@strangelittlegirl27 Wow, and I think you're sad. That Orca's family is with her, at SeaWorld and her trainers. How closed minded of you. In a perfect world, yeah, we could leave the Orca's in the wild, but in a perfect world there wouldn't be 7 billion people on the planet, most of whom would never have the chance to see an Orca if it weren't for these places. So stop being selfish, pay for us to go the wild and see them.
annhistorian 1 year ago
@strangelittlegirl27 they dont dream about that since most of them have been born in captivity and have no knowlege of the wild..
shamuroxy 1 year ago
@shamuroxy
the main whale in the video (katina) was captured in the wild, so maybe she does remeber it.
elfwhitewave 1 year ago
@elfwhitewave she probably does but why would she let people ride on her if she didnt trust them or didnt want to when she could kill them in a heartbeat?
shamuroxy 1 year ago
@shamuroxy
because its how she gets the bulk of her food - when she does something they want her to do.
elfwhitewave 1 year ago
@elfwhitewave no thats actually not true the whales get all of their food regardless of if they perform or not.. the whales are not food driven they vary up the reinforcers so occasionally yes they do get food as a reinforcer but its not a meal its a treat or snack.. and still do you think thats enough motivation for a killer whale?
shamuroxy 1 year ago
@strangelittlegirl27 lool, go tell her that yourself you jelous cow haha

I don't get how people think the trainers beat these animals. Its so obvious they love them and are loved in return
SkullPhace 1 year ago
@SkullPhace omfg thank you finally i found someone with some sense!!!
couuurtneeey 1 year ago
@SkullPhace
i'm anti cap and of course i dont believe they beat the animals (as do most peple who are anti cap aswell), i'm sure the trainers love them.
i am anti cap because as a species they just dont do well in captivity, they cant be kept in anything resembling a natural habbitat and their social groups cant be matained how they should.
its antropomorphic to think the whales 'love' the trainers, if that was true, there would not have been so many attacks would there?
elfwhitewave 1 year ago
oh!! I have this DVD!! I love watching the trainers work with the orcas!!!
Hopefully I can be an orca trainer
narniaHP4ever 1 year ago
@2cute24get11 Exactly - why???:)) Dear 2cute...: why not to take the challenge and to "make a strong bond with these amazing, beautiful, and incredibly intelligent animals" in their natural habitat - not forcing them into your relationship. A beautiful communication of two independently intelligent divine creatures:)

SamberPetz 1 year ago
@SamberPetz You're very welcome, good luck, another college i recomend going to is Moorpark college. and apply to do the exotic animal training this is an american teaching zoo and is widely publicized by Sea World. Also remember to start to gain experience while in school. Vets, rescue centers are the best places to start out once gained experience apply at zoos and aquariums. Hope this helped :)

@ those who say they want to become an orca trainer: DOES ORCE WANT YOU TO BE THEIR TRAINER?? HAVE THEY GIVEN YOU THIS RIGHT?
SpringSunday 1 year ago
I've always wanted to be an orca trainer. I've just always been so scared to just even try it....and then I heard about Dawn's death, and I realized that life is too short, so better go for it! It's an unfortunate thing to happen, but if it wasn't for Dawn's inspiration, I would probably never get to do what I've always wanted to do!
