Girl, I cooked this last night and we are still licking our finers AND today we tried the potato and shrimp chowder....it was some kind of good.....THANK YOU....GREAT VIDEOS AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE EASY TO FOLLOW.
rice must be washed, its been imported from far east india etc, obviously its been exposed to dirt, along the processing and packaging. please no short cuts with cooking. still looks great.
I like your video Miss YouTube user IrieKitchen ; I see that my standard Jamaican eatery food favorite " Brown Stew Chicken" can come in different varieties. On your homepage or on a video; I would to know what was the list of ingredients you used for this recipe.
Washing rice has nothing to do with hygiene. You wash certain rices to release the extra starches so that when you cook it, it's not mushy but firm. It has nothing to do with making sure its "clean".
I love you!!!! Curry chicken came out excellent finally, for da first time it had a rich flavor n thickness in da gravy. can't wait to try da brown stew.
Can someone tell me the difference between the cholesterol/ fat level and the coconut, coconut oil and canola oil? Iriekitchen, does the coconut oil give the food a better flavour? I have never used it. Thanks.
I had to use A1 sauce instead of tomatoes I know I had some sause and paste around here some where oh well!
Reneil the dish dony taste too bad!!! I need a little practice but not bad at all! I tried to find coconut oil but no one knew what I was talking about so I had to use vegetable oil
Can you tell me the name of the browning you used to make this? I am having a hard time finding the right browning and the one you use in this recipe looks like what I'm looking for. Thanks you SO much for this recipe. If your taking request I'd love to see how you make the sweet brown stew fish. Thanks in adavnce.
We will be eating in the next hour, thanks! I used fresh tomatoes n ketchup. Tell folks be aware of not measureing caramel sauce or it will be too dark but still good...TRACK :-))
@glazese Not sure if you are mistaken or I am but in the west Indies we wash our chicken add spices and leave it to saute for a period of time. So I think that she washed the chicken previously.
thanks for this channel. i really like your food. i have 2 questions: #1 what are the pros and cons of uses coconut milk vs. coconut cream block? #2 is "browning" the same as molasses?
im attempting to make this recipe but maybe i needed it to be dumbed down a little more bcus im not sure what is in the beans that makes the water look cloudy? are stove temperatures high/med/lo? sorry I need the dummy version :-/ Also what are the measurements for the beans (1cup, 1oz. etc)?
This recipe must be from a different part of the island as I could not serve ANY of my family unwashed chicken. You already have coconut and the sugar? Together with all the starch from the rice! Dang! If you saw the process rice goes through, you would wash it.
Hi Irie! Thank you so much for posting this. My Jamaican friend used to make this for me every day and I lost his recipe and lost touch with him. I was never able to find any dish that resembled his. When I saw your video, I got so excited and I cannot wait to try this because it looks exactly like my friend's dish. My mouth was practically drooling watching this 2 AM in the morning...hehe!
My husband is Jamaican and I've always wanted to cook for him instead of him doing all the cooking and I hate to constantly bug his family about how do you make this, how do you make that...Thank you for posting this. From me and my family. WE LOVE IT!

Do you have the recipe written down somewhere that I can find? I missed how much water you put in the dried beans to cook them down. How long should the chicken stew in the pot?

Am an awful cook. Can you omit the brown sugar if you'd like? Also, how much rice did you say that was again? I tried to rewind it but couldn't exactly get it. Sorry, i think my computer is acting out on me.

I'm so happy you used your hands to mix the brownin! LOL, that was classic.
When you started using the spoon I said to myself, "How is that going to work?" and next thing you know, you said "let me get rid of this spoon!" HAHA...
Count it to the head and not the heart, due to some major issues that arose that needed my tending to, i was unable to keep my schedule for posting written recipes earlier this month. The recipes will be posted on August the 3rd.
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM ALERT: I think the food looks amazing, however, for novice cookers, it would be so helpful to break it down from the top in your future recipes. Including how to make the peas from scratch, what the pan actually looks like before the food goes in because it looked deceivingly shallow, the seasoning of the meat the night before, etc.
Oh no thats the browning. You should be able to get bottles of it here but probably need to go to a West Indian shop or something like that. theres a few brands available I just bought some by NuPak

i'm glad it worked out for you. many people say they will try but they never really let me know how it turned out.

Other than that it looks fantastic!!

Oh no thats the browning. You should be able to get bottles of it here but probably need to go to a West Indian shop or something like that. theres a few brands available I just bought some by NuPak

its not mandatory, but i prefer my rice and peas to be a little sweeter than the coconut milk allows.

Why do you add sugar to the peas and rice? Very interesting.
