  • I would work for free, building a whole community. This is awesome.

  • @xPhantomPoopx sounds like you'd do well to get thyself to a training session in New Mexico...I trust you've been to the earthship site :))))

  • Survival shouldn't necessarily be war or a constant struggle. My Guru H.D.G. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami always said "Simple Living High Thinking." He said living in fear is animal life, being constantly in fear of being eaten up. In our case, by the gas & electric company and others preying upon our dependencies.

  • @asarapi Hi, thanks for your input; fear is a biggy to many of us, isn't it tho.. peace and smiles :)

  • I love the concepts behind earth ships, but the execution up to this point seems a little bit clumsy. I would be very intrested in seeing a earth bag/ earth ship hybrid designed by someone that pays a little more attention to astetics.

  • @adgreen007 thanks, adgreen007...many people have designed their own; you could always change asthetics if you don't care for them, methinks ;)

  • @whopzer me 2 ;)!

  • Self sustained, maybe, right after you import 90%of th e materials and a truck load of cash. Try using the resources you find in the area. It's been done.

  • I want one- only incorporated into a large boat. I have land and building materials. I am nearly 100% sure there are no building code permit requirements for building a boat. Or we could just fire the local building inspector first. It could be used as a "New World' prototype to free us from the grid of slavery and unjust taxation.

  • @kimhassler1 I don't know if you could do that: Each earth filled tire weighs AT LEAST three hundred pounds.

  • big and beautifull home allright self sufficient thats wonderfull that means this can be built anywhere one finds some nice place to live away from dumb subdivisions we have enough of those in Canada,s big cities where the homes are just packed together like a bunch of boxes and one pays exorbitant prices for those homes

  • We are looking to build a home and a studio for music~ What a brilliant idea!!!!! Can you hire theses folks to come out anywhere?

  • @mimiburnsband Hi, and excuse my late reply here. I hope by now you have called their office and inquired. I'm not sure of the current mode of operation, but I'm sure one way or another they will be of great help to you! Thanks for watching!

  • @mimiburnsband sorry I've missed you and others here; (must check my 'notifications'!)...answer is yes, I do believe! Hope by now you've inquired of them!

  • This is for sale now... wtf happend?

  • @WizzleThump I believe this was a private residence not owned by the builder.

  • Earthships and Earthbag Homes are THE BEST! Thanks for all your help!

    Majors Dome, Garfield, Arkansas USA

  • @ArdomeTV Thanks ArdomeTV.. stay in touch!

  • Wow, I want to build one of those when I get older.

  • at the begening, who is the music by???

  • The song at the beginning is called Asturias

    Here it is on YouTube:

    watch?v=oEfFbuT3I6A

  • @SamC74 Ahh! John Williams.. wonderful! Thank you much :)

  • this may be a stupid question but what about cold climates.... these new eco homes are really cool and all but these types of homes are always in hot countrys

  • ZanderoAwesomo, temperatures in the New Mexico desert range from scorching hot in summer, to below freezing in winter. It's an ideal demonstraion site. This design can deal with all climates (with the possible exception of the arctic?)

  • thank you for the video, but it was hard to watch. as someone trying to more information on eathship design, it's hard to pick out some of the interview with the multiple layers of talking, music that dubs over the speech, neck cranking angles and off topic subjects such as the dog that seem to take away from the educational value.

  • Basically a teaser...some clips from previous episodes of the Building Communities show with a tour of the beautiful new Phoenix Earthship in Taos, New Mexico. Enjoy, and do see the links for more information, as this is not meant to be an education on Earthships! I hope to post more tours of other Earthships and more of the interview with Biotech Michael Reynolds. He is quite a pioneering, goal-driven man whose innovative biotectural design and systems is changing the world.

  • I'm quite aware of these things, thx. 'Teaser' is what I called this in the description, not education. Yes, I'd probably edit it differently today. Thx for commenting; I trust you did find more information elsewhere :)

  • Description posted here.... :)

  • I wanna build one in Michigan

  • I wanna build one anywhere! :D

  • how much would it cost for a basic survival hut

  • Excuse I missed you here until now! I do trust by now you've answered that question on the earthship website; material costs keep going up, as with everything. I've not priced one in years now...you could probably advise me :)

I'll look soon and post if I find an update on $ :)

  • Whoah, it's a trippy drug stoner architecht. Those are crazy hallucination houses.

  • They are?! To each their own...I personally would be most happy to have one...they not only feel & look great IMO, they are self-sufficient: no hook-up to utility companies needed. For that alone, in my book anyway, they are worth gold :)

    Thx for watching and commenting!

  • It doesnt seem like a house for the symmetrical person, but rather for a person who doesnt need to be constrained by right angles to feel comfortable. These houses seem that they would appeal to people who would appreciate a dome house. When Im ready to build a house I think I'd research this option a bit more!

  • well they are children friendly, no sharp edges :)

  • good *point*.......LOL!

  • I can understand some people might feel uncomfortable in something they are not accustomed to; but for many, I do believe once the step inside of an Earthship, they're sold!!

  • erm, as a teaser, is this a trailer for a specific documentary - if so - has it been released, please? do let me know.. i loved "garbage warrior" and have been aching for some more documentaries on the earthship phenomenon.

  • Thx for watching! Most vids here are clips from longer TV productions due to Youtube's time constraints. I produced an hour-long show in 2003 w/interview of Michael Reynolds (creator of Earthships)I'd like to break up into segments for posting here! Do come back & watch the vid I just posted on my other channel and will feature on this one: I will be focusing on production of a vid which expresses my vision of community and a healing center.

  • would like to see that tiz. I have Garbage Warrior and have been on the lookout for other earthship documentaries

  • thanks LizBizToo,we have'nt started building yet we're still in the planning, we want to fix the mistakes before we build, so any links or hook-ups to like minded individuals is appreciated. yes on mike reynolds, i've been exited by this idea since dennis weaver built his home.its just taken this long to get serious, yeh i'm a pisces,we do procrastinate don't we? but on the bright side, now we know exactly how big it has to be post growth and we all these big strong kids to help yeh!

  • Thx, Tina :) LOL! That's an answer...wait til the kids grow up! At least you've had time to plan properly the huge project before you. I'm thinking back...it must have been '93 or earlier when I discovered Reynolds. So you must know how pleased I am personally to see his wide success. We have made some progress! Green being the new bandwagon now...

I hope you have a video cam and take lots of footage!!!

  • my husband and i have 4 grown kids w/families and are looking to build a home with 5 private family areas w/bedrooms,2 with 3 bedrooms 2 with 2 bedrooms and 1 with 1 bedroom. a communal area w/ kitchen and root cellar, tilapia tank and garden/filter system. we plan on using tires outer wall and tubes inner walls,we need as much info as we can get. all is appreciated.thanks to all you pioneers out there. this is the only future. if we cant self sustain we'll die,sad but i'm afraid, true.

  • What a commendable project you're undertaking!

I trust you are making use of Michael Reynold's research and wealth of information, etc. Yes, the time to cut ourselves off from reliance on outmoded utility systems is here :) Best of luck, and I hope you'll update us here... down your path.. :)

  • I love this building. It is beautiful. I am trying to convince my grandpa to get into these he owns a lot of land in Nevada. It has the cleanest air in America, natural wells already. It is perfect for these homes.

  • Ahh, I spent some time in those parts this summer and it was a delight; I trust you've shown Grandpa some vids online? To be inside these structures feels so good if he could visit Taos...do let me know how it goes! Thank you for watching :)

  • I have shown him and he said that he and his partner was actually looking into building these type of homes. I have my fingers crossed that they get built before its too late. I have been showing all my friends and family these homes. Some get as excited as me, others don't. I really want to visit one, I can feel the peace from my desktop. Yes I have two accounts. Thanks for showing us.

  • You said it: that feeling of peace inside the Earthship's walls :) Maybe some can't see it as you but once inside, they might feel it. The Earthship trend is gathering much momentum these days..

Best of luck to you and Grandpa; do stay in touch!

  • great video and idea

but PLEASE change the damn music, it gets too freaky

  • LOL thanks for your input :)

  • I spent a few months working on the Phoenix. It is so beautiful! When I left they were closing it in. Awesome!

  • Lucky you! They all have a special feeling to them, I'm sure you agree :)

Come see you soon on your channel! Thx.

  • Sounds like the music from a Doors cut called Spanish Caravan.

  • Hi, and thank you for watching! (sorry the tardy reply; can you tell it's summer?!)

Doors, ahh, will definitely check it out; this is a beloved local group of musicians... puzzleoflightDOTcom :)

  • Very inspiring video, I just returned from 'Arcosanti' in Arizona where a model city is being built. The whole idea of sustainability is right here...right now! We need to make changes in our cities' planning...to allow more of this everywhere!

  • it's slowly happening. The architect here has spent 30 + years struggling against the system;

and that the state of New Mexico recently gave him grant monies is a big step forward :)

being 'green' is finally catching on, and more...

I envy you your trip to Arcosanti...did you take footage?

    Thx :)

  • Hope to build one myself in a few years. The audio on this is weird as hell.

  • congrats :D

audio lol I'm no pro...was my attempt to give snippets of thoughts.... the beginning of the vid is 'clips' from various shows :D

  • I think its tango music

  • I would love to have one of these homes!! How do I research availability?

  • happy to hear of your interest :)

earthship dot net will get you started.

there are real estate peeps who promote them; searches online will show much info.

on Youtube, go to user 'earthship'

  • Thank You I will!

  • :D give me an update one o these days!

  • And one more rating makes a perfect ten.

  • You're ze best :)

    Thx, S!

  • It's my new mania.Rounding-up the stars.You have a prime eleven now,I'm gettin' twitchy.lol

  • lol thx, I must REMEMBER to pay more attention to those lil pointed thingys when makin ze rounds :D

  • I love this. My husband and I are going to the June 2008 Earthship Seminar, and we are both so excited! It will bring us one step closer to building our own =)

  • Great! You'll love it, surely...wishing you the best. Keep me posted, if you like!

    :)

  • so awesome it makes me cry...if only EVERYONE embraced such a way of living

  • Oh, Tristan! You said it...everyone; but the changes I've seen over these more recent years are somewhat encouraging...people are much more aware and many more are actually building with these things in mind...:) Thanks for watching...checking out your channel, too :)

  • Thanks for sharing this Liz. It's wonderful. Not only the perfect home with regard to the environment - but also with regard to aesthetics. Favourited!

  • Ah! Missed your comment here, Nathan...so glad to be able to share it! Thank you much, glad you enjoyed (and faved) :)

  • I am glued to the screen when you show us these tours Liz! The log ceiling beams were gorgeous as was the glass bottles in the walls. The red room and pink table set added some great color.

Can't wait for the next! :)

  • Your enthusiastic response spurs me onward with gusto...edit I will!

    Thx mucho, Sherry (babe):)

  • Absolutely Fabulous! Liz, I loooove Michael Reynolds vision! Far too many people are cut off from the earth and nature...leads us all to insanity. What a soothing and sensuous design. I will watch this over and over. Thank you! -Cindy

  • Thx, Cindy!

So pleased here am I...that you loooove...! :D

  • So glad that my friends are enjoying these...watch for more vids about reaching that 'better state of mind'... :)

I do appreciate your coming by to see, Sara.

  • The neo classical building with the Greco-Roman pylons, tilted at an angle? It looks absolutely spectacular. That's my kind of abode.

It's always good to revisit these clips Liz. Reinforce and cement Reynold's vision in the minds of the ppl and it will eventually stick. I admire your dedication. Perhaps if you had a few butt naked hunks squeezed in, ze vid might get featured? *guffaw I kid*

    :)

  • TILTED? Yes, I'd say! It was totally upside down! Ha! Your kind of abode?! Now that be ze perfect picture: da Saint walkin around on hiz head!

Yes, thank you, Saint. Ze dedication stems from ze passion within here for effecting change for the better in how we build and live. BTW, cud you have ze new pics to me by tomorrow? Refer to ze Las Vegas show: Hunks from Down Under...

  • This is fascinating, Liz. I want to see more, more, more! What functional whimsy! Thank you so much for sharing these tours!

  • And thank you for your enthusiastic response! More is on the way....soon! :D

  • Really fascinating Lizzz, rather like the glass and can walls.I payed a visit to one of the earthship web sites and it was really interesting, love the idea of the d i y.....finishing off and designing your own earthship building !super duper, thanks lizz

  • They are uniquely their own lil being...like a womb that surrounds and protects you... :) Thx much, Michell

  • Liz that was so interesting. Loved this building. I especially liked the bottles embedded in the walls and all the plants. I would love "A better state of mind" home like that. Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed that :)
