You have to love the hair helmet...Back in those days they went through hair spray by the gallons...And check the guests on this Berle show...Variety was a fun genre back then...Today the closest thing is Idol...Too bad an entire generation will not know about this program format...
@Bellyflops2 Joe Pyne was part of a short mid-to-late 60s trend of insult hosts. Pyne was maybe the most vitriolic. He hosted a talk show and the audience could get involved. Pyne had one leg, the other maybe lost to war, I can't remember. He and a similar host, Alan Burke, would chain smoke and insult their way through their shows. They were very popular for a time. The closest thing we have now are those judge shows, the best being Judge Judy, mean and snappish.
Funny thing, this is a constant desire from old guys like me but now commenting on these clips and many live band performances of the 60's, young folks are wishing the same thing. They know, well at least the smart ones, they are being short changed by a jaded and immoral society.
That may or may not be Toni Basil at 3:03, although it sure looks like her and the time period is right for her to be in this show. Still, it seems like it would confirmed on the internet somewhere.
The Taylor Swift of 1966? She's one time has forgotten about, but she was kicking some serious a** back then. Hmm. I'm thinking she can't hear the orchestra... she's quite sharp... and that's not like Donna Loren. The other singers are in perfect tune. As soon as she comes back in... she's in tune. It wasn't easy to sing on those shows I'm guessing.
@floralparkkid Especially after what Berle had to do to get it...convince NBC to remove the exclusivity clause from his famous contract (in 1951 he signed a 30-year deal at $100K a year to be Peacock property...I understand in return the money was reduced to $40K).
I lived for this show when I was a 7-year old, and I was heartbroken when It was cancelled.Little did I know that there'd been an earlier Berle show that had lasted longer than 13 weeks.
Youve done it again, Swingin60sGuy. Another Donna gem! Thanks so very much for this one and the Milton Berle Show clip. You must have been the Producer of Shindig? Or the Host? Maybe youre David Winters? Or a relative of Donnas one of her children? Or youre Mike Post? You are making many people happy, whoever you are, and I covet your 60s collection!
I'd call her for phone sex anytime.

Uncle Miltie was always funny and his shows were great. The ABC show was not given a chance. He was the greatest all around comedian of all time.
